Parked at Bishops Glen car park, followed tracks up to Elligan (note these are not all on 1:50k map, only recent 1:25k os maps). Followed fenceline to Bishops Seat then to col below Black Craig, up to cairn then summit of Black Craig. On return followed fence down to junction of Bishop Seat fence, then kept going along fence to South to meet track coming out corner of forest on Horse Seat. Followed tracks and paths down to Bishops Glen. 10 miles, Lovely 6hr day out including stops, and not too bad underfoot, but it has been a very dry sunny week. | JulieB | 22/04/2023 |
Circuit from B836.

Walked over from The Socach. Stone still at high point. Back to Bealach na Sreine then descended to ford. Walked back along track to the van at Inverchaolain church. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 15/03/2023 |
Very overcast today, but still decent enough conditions for an enjoyable wander around these four tops from Dunoon. | Alex C | 29/03/2022 |
Parked at Inverchaolain Church | duchally | 06/03/2022 |
Bad news. Inverchaolain Glen is new forestry, large area enclosed by a wobbly deer fence built of bendy wire. Worse still, the new trees are boring spruce at normal density but planted using holes instead of trenches. Part of Bolton's track has been wrecked in this way though still passable (for now). The good news is that there's a gate at approx. 960 768; the ATV track continues towards a big landslip, obliterated here but continues for easy walking in the sun, crunchy snow, frozen bogs, almost to Cruach nan Capull. Pleasant enough over Leacann nan Gall, but Black Craig was nasty - softening snow, thawing bogs. Descent was vile, from 111 754, to follow the outside of the fence, v. steep, climb at a strainer where it heads uphill, steep down tussocks, bogs, dead bracken, avoiding the gorse and then getting mixed up with planting holes close to the new track on the E side of the glen. Note: looks worse closer to Inverchaolain plus extra deer fence. | Gill | 06/12/2020 |
From Kilbride Hill via a bog that you do not want to fall into, then the long straight forestry road, then up through the clear-felled quagmire by the Black Craig Burn. Superb views to Bute and Arran. Onwards to the Socach over damp ground. | sclater | 02/07/2020 |
Inverchaolain, Cruach nan Capull, Leacan nan Gall, Black Craig. | PGCE | 21/05/2019 |
From the W - same route as NormanW. | Chris Peart | 25/03/2019 |
Morning ferry, up from Dunoon via reservoir paths, then over moorland to summit. New track extension joins the track under the SE steep slopes, used to return all the way into Dunoon near the radio mast... missed ferry by 30 seconds, thankfully it runs every half hour... | N.Morters | 23/03/2019 |
A bit of rough going from The Socach initially. From the church at Inverchaolain via Cruach nan Capull, Leacann nan Gall and The Socach. Desdended to Inverchaolain Farm but bracken and gorse lower down was a nuisance. Under 10 miles and 5.5 hours solo. | bolton | 06/09/2018 |
Steep through corse bushes. Nice view from top. We decided to aim for the forest road but that was a bad idea in the end. I would not recommend it. | tallblond | 03/09/2018 |
From Inverchaolain via Cruach Capull. Excellent ridge walk with super views. | Winterfloodian | 29/04/2018 |
On the way from below Inverchaolain Fm to Cruach nan Capull. | Topographer57 | 26/02/2018 |
From Castle Pier in Dunoon via Bishop's Glen. Final Kilometre ascended through trees just to south west of northwest tributary of Black Craig Burn with no significant issues (much easier than ascending the felled forestry areas I expect). Great views all round including Arran and Firth of Clyde. | raffemeister | 28/12/2017 |
Parked at the church. Through Stronyaraig farm and straight up the nose to Sron Dearg and on to Cruach nan Capull, then round head of Inverchaolain Glen and on to here via the Highland 5. Returned to road via Inverchaolain Farm on steep wet grass. | jonglew | 15/11/2017 |
Approach from W. | ger | 03/05/2017 |
3rd of 5 from Dunoon. After The Socach, just follow the ridge round. Sheep tracks take easier and drier line than the fence which gets involved with a few peat hags. Lovely views all round. Back to the Socach. | Thearlaichdubh | 17/04/2017 |
From Stronyaraig up the road on the west side of the glen, then steeply up near Ellers Burn. Descent to ATV track on East side of glen, then footbridge at 10072 76146. | NormanW | 25/03/2017 |
S/F Inverchaolain. Track then slog up slopes to boggy plateau and on to summit. Good views down Firth of Clyde to Arran and beyond. | AndrewFinnimore | 25/03/2017 |
From the church. Sunny, calm, warm, good views - then poured for the last half hour. Well, it is Scotland. | iangalbraith | 28/08/2016 |
As a pair with Cruach nan Capull from the old chapel at Inverchaolain. Good ridges and fine going after the Bealach crossed. With Jenx in just over three hours. | nordicstar | 27/05/2016 |
Pretty easy going across to here from the Graham. Steep down to glen after to pick up end of track and out. Bracken ok now, but could be a problem soon. | jenx | 27/05/2016 |
up from dunoon tracks than open hillside clockwise round the socath, black craig, bishops seat, eilligan, nice sunny day. | robertphillips | 03/07/2015 |
Bus from Dunoon to Corrachaive then through forest to Cruach nan Capull - Leacann nan Gall - Black Craig before descent back to Dunoon. | benalder284 | 01/06/2015 |
Followed forest track up Glen Kin then across moor, longer than southern approach but no problems. With mora. | BLACKHILL | 04/04/2015 |

Up from Dunoon, followed by Cruach nan Capull and Cruach Neuran. Summit marked by lone small rock. | campagvelocet | 16/04/2010 |
Parked at NS 094 827 on B836 at junction with forest road. Then over Cruach Neuran, Cruach nan Capull and Leacann nan Gall. Down over pt292 to B836 at Clachaig. | Alan Moore | 10/06/2009 |
With Charlie from Inverchaolain. Upto near Bealach na Sreine then across to top. Down beside Ellers Burn. | chrisbien | 17/05/2008 |
Took a trip through Bishops Glen, then Wast through the forrestry tracks, and finally onto the moorland behind Dunoon onto Bishops Seat, and finally South West onto Black Craig.

No real top to speak of, just a mound on the hillside, but nice views none | willmurray | 16/03/2008 |
From Dunoon ferry pier. | Grinner | 29/10/2006 |
From Balagowan and Glen Kin back over Bishop's seat. | Eddie | 25/08/2003 |
from L nan Gall. On faint path down to bealach and up on tussock after swamp into mist. Trudge uphill with peat hags standing proud proving not to be the top down to east to fence. When this levelled out 60' further up to flat swampy top at 14.20. | arranc | 22/03/2003 |
fine climb & surroundings, disappointing flat boggy summit area. from Stronyaraig, tk now goes straight up glen; due E to summit | RHW | 23/03/2002 |
My 50th Marilyn! From Cruach nan Capull descended to the east and contoured round Leacann nan Gall before climbing to the summit from Bealach na Srèine. | garyhoney | 18/07/2000 |
