Good parking NN 1069 0083. Mapped track to NN 1210 0114 then south on overgrown (reeds) track south. Ends NN 121006. Tussocks to top | carole engel | 29/07/2023 |
Parked by the Danger - Wild Pigs sign before the bridge approaching Succothmore. I went up beneath the trees on the west of the stream that runs under the Cowal Way forest track just after the path from the bridge joins it. Windthrow, stumps and brash - seemingly arranged into lines of fortification in some places - made for fairly tricky going to the upper forest road. Once there, the ATV track marked by a miniature cairn is helpful, although crossing the two northerly tops makes for drier feet than following the track right to the summit. | Nick Down1 | 19/07/2023 |
Parked at the bridge before Succothmore Farm. Up Cowal Way up forest tracks to track junction where Cowal Way turns East at 128002. Easyish walking up left hand side of burn on grassy slopes, broken trees are easily avoided. Cross burn near top of col and head to the summit. Didn't find the cairn and ATV track route others mentioned. Lots of fallen trees in the woods near the start. Returned same route, just under 4 miles. | JulieB | 23/04/2023 |
A really easy route. Parked at NN119 016, just before road bridge. Walked over footbridge and up to forest road. Up through trees on west side of burn to higher forest road. From here, ATV track ( (marked by small cairn) to summit! Back same way. With bolton. Under 2hrs. | Dangerous Dave | 16/03/2023 |
From good parking at 119017 close to the bridge. Crossed the road bridge and then the footbridge on the Cowal Way. Ascended on the west side of the burn after the bridge and went easily under the tree canopy to the forest road and then followed Isbjorns route to the summit. 1 hour 50 minutes return. A pleasant afternoon walk in light drizzle after heavy rain for most of the day. Disappointingly we didn't bump into any wild pigs! With Dangerous Dave. | bolton | 16/03/2023 |
Foolishly ignoring all previous advice, we approached from the SW - initially along the forestry track from Invernoaden, then up a narrow fire break to the highest circumnavigating track, before crossing rather treacherous felled stumps and brash. The grass and moss of the summit mound was light relief after that. Anyway, v.nice view down Loch Eck from the top and no need to come back in a hurry. | summitter | 18/06/2022 |
Woody bloods! This must have been a prime candidate for THE 'hill of inaccessibility', but not any more. On vehicle tracks all the way to the trig point. An ATV track starts 50 metres E of the track junction at NN 1206001160, (small cairn), and ascends the E bank of the small stream, S, straight as an arrow up the W flank of the N ridge, making use of a linear corridor through the trees - fades out occasionally when the veg gets tough, but just keep looking straight ahead, until a wee wiggle when it exits the trees and onto the open hill top, then right up to the trig point. Easy peasy, nowt steep. Woody bloods? - Beinn Lagan solved! PS there's no parking at the Succothmore Farm road end (someone has put their trailers in the obvious spot). | Isbjorn | 06/06/2021 |
Started at Succothmore road end, Cowal way to high point then up to Beinn Lochain, a tedious trudge, though the summit is nice. This route allows Beinn Lagan to be bagged on the way back. Avoided all brash and new plantings, though anyone wanting these can find plenty up the Cam Allt and the N side of the hill. Instead, an old track starts at 126005-ish from the upper logging road, where the cleared section to the E starts. Easy going all the way to Cam Allt where the path ends 123001-ish. Easy to go up through well-spaced old trees on a deer superhighway to 123002 then it's easy to the top. Used this way down; don't go directly up from track end as I did, it becomes worryingly steep. | Gill | 26/05/2021 |
Direct ascent from Strachurmore through relentless sitka monoculture hell. Descended via the open area to the N and back via the Cowal Way. | sclater | 25/02/2021 |
Logging in the forest though route from Invernoaden is currently clear. Ascent up S bank of Carn Allt to 350m contour is heavy going. | 49pp | 21/10/2019 |

1 of 4: Parked at Lauder Memorial at Invernoaden. Left the forest track at 127996. Steeply up by the side of the mature trees. | ChrisR | 08/08/2019 |
From Invernoaden up to high point of track. I went up the burnside break but came down the one at the forest edge which was much better - less steep and not much brash. | Chris Peart | 01/04/2019 |
Parked at approx. 119016 on south side of river on left. Headed up from track at 12740 99854. | duchally | 26/11/2018 |
Up through forest on SE flank on way down from Beinn Bheula.
Excellent views. | Winterfloodian | 30/04/2018 |
From Invernoadan. Forest tracks heading up. Struck up a forest gap to the upper track, then northwest direction. Crossing the obvious large stream and then half km to the first of the smaller streams. A forest break steeply ascends to grassy slope and fine viewpoint. Easier than feared when seeing the encircled forest, less than 2hrs up/down. | N.Morters | 28/04/2018 |
Parked in layby under Lauder memorial and up through Invernoaden and track as far as 127993, then turn left up steep clearing around a burn. This section is not made easier by a light tree litter covering. | Topographer57 | 18/04/2017 |
S/F Invernoaden.Forest track to break in trees just below high point of track. Steep but easy enough to summit plateau | AndrewFinnimore | 22/03/2017 |
M. From Strachur. Very wet all day. To high point in track and up through brash. Difficult. Would be better to continue go forest edge where there has been no felling. Deer on top. Very windy | Martin66 | 16/10/2016 |
Up to high point on track, then up by stream, which is steep and a bit brashly. All ok though. | jenx | 13/04/2016 |
With Jenx from Invernoaden. Forestry works going on half way up the track however we were waved through. To the main ride with stream, ok lower down, bit of a brash thrash further up, keep to the right hand side looking up for best lines. Good viewpoint on top, if a bit soggy in places. | nordicstar | 13/04/2016 |
With Mike. Horseshoe including Beinn Lagan and Beinn Bheula | raffemeister | 30/05/2015 |
invernoaden track to high point then wide fire break at small stream to the top. | robertphillips | 09/04/2015 |
With Mora, from the A815 at ns108991 | BLACKHILL | 23/09/2014 |
from layby at 122978. Followed obvious forestry roads and then up the first obvious burn at 126994. This ride has recently been widened. Pleasant summit if it hadn't been snowing. Couldn't find burn on way down so nasty thrash thru forest. | Thearlaichdubh | 07/02/2014 |
Followed Cowal Way from NN119017 to bealach where trees to W have been felled. Followed edge of forest up onto open fell. Good views. | jimbloomer | 05/09/2012 |
Started at gate near Quoyloo NS119978. Could have driven up the track quite easily, but didn't. At Cul na Beinne followed stream up hillside almost in straight line to summit. Came back southwards and picked way through the trees to track. | Martin R | 10/04/2012 |
Revisit. Grassy summit. Superb early spring morning, -5C overnight. From SW, NS109999, forest road overgrown initially. From 112992 followed the obvious (on GoogleMaps) wide steep grassy break - nice route. | RHW | 08/05/2010 |
Solo. From Invernoaden. Track then NE to summit. Down Cam Allt to track. | chrisbien | 30/08/2008 |
Ascended from forest tracks off the A815 on a dull day. | JohnW | 12/06/2008 |
Dry, cold, very steep, some mist, good views | iangalbraith | 08/01/2006 |
Parked in layby on A815. Full rain gear. Mile steadily uphill for a mile looking for break in plantings. GPS wouldn't work. Up steep slopes above forest road via a grassy, ferny wet area by stream. To visible horizon and corner of forest. On compass by grassy lumps uphill to left and down over swamp to trig 8767 at 13.00. No cairn. No view - mist. | arranc | 30/09/2004 |
Date is first visit. Notes from later...unremarkable hill,. invernoadan: forest tk to 123983 then felled/new planted area | RHW | 02/01/2000 |
