7th hill of 9 on a 20km linear route from Llanarmon yn-lal to Gwernymynydd continuing from Bryn Alyn easily on flattish pasture descending via a footpath to the SE corner of the quarry where I headed on the road into the quarry but where e footpath takes over. A lovely route that climbs up the edge of the quarry and at the correct point i Veered off through the woodland to reach the true summit. Easily back to the path and continuing to Moel Findeg....Dazingdale27/01/2024
Enjoyable wander from village parking-failed to find the path going up past the pub so walked down the main road a little, but did drop down to the aforementioned path, between the 2 sheds opposite the cottage.Alfa1M25/08/2023
Parked to west of pub, followed tracks to near the top then through easy undergrowth to some mossy stones at top.PeterD11/08/2022
Pete was in tumpbagging mode and wanted to add to my cherry-picked selection N & E of Bryn Alyn. Without notes, we were puzzled about the fp along the wooded ridge and walked on from Maeshafn to a sheep meadow with a RoW and then accessed the ridge, and finally the wooded HP. Wooded ridge all the way back- now on a broad track, and found the stile behind the pub. Unusually for this popular area, no signpost- which is why we missed it despite looking as we started our walk.pwheeler23/03/2022
Parked by phone box in Maeshafn at SJ 2023 6100 (popular village, especially at weekends) & found clivevilla's log very helpful - Along track past the Miners Arms to Tal y Llwyn, the 2nd cottage on left after the pub - Turned right between two wooden sheds & RoW then becomes obvious - Good paths through excellent well-managed woodland before a short climb to the moss-covered summit cairn. Moss covered limestone within woods of pine and beech, short distance from path in public woodland.Denise 10/12/2021
Wooded summit, easy detour from RoW path to E. Mossy limestone rocks at high point may once have been a cairn?RichardM10/12/2021

Parked in the pretty village of Maeshafn. Past the Miners Arms along lane. Turn right over stile across field and into delightful forest. Stunning morning.Campbell Singer29/04/2021
Parked at 19995 60995 and found the fp going by the Miners Arms. However, the correct path goes off between two sheds and I took a different path and ended up having to work my way through woods along the northern edge of the quarry. Much easier going back on the correct path but the turn off I missed is very hard to spot.clivevilla08/12/2020
From the village to north- very wet today but easy paths up through woodsMark Sims11/06/2019
Track starts from SJ 2022 6099 - sign to Miners Arms CP. Parking opposite. Look out for well-hidden stile in thick well-manicured gap in hedge (just before buildings). Wood very easy going - deciduous trees - unusualcarole engel22/11/2018
From N, parking just below 'Maeshafn' road sign at W end of village. F/p for 200m then up slope to higher paths leading to summit, an untidy pile of mossy rocks.Aye Jimmy07/01/2018
On circular walk from Gwernymynydd. Did the circuit of the quarry, as marktrengove. Noticed a cairn by the track close to the mossy pile of rocks. Useful. Also found the false top, mentioned by GordonAdshead, on the way down to Maeshafn. Interesting walk.Richard Gunn21/09/2016
Continuation of walk from Moel Findeg. Took paths down to Maeshafn, then trail south on east side of quarry. Then RoW north on west side of quarry, diverting to climb to summit. To return headed north into Maeshafn, then trail north to Colomendy, then RoWs through pasture back to Gwernymynydd. Solo.Man of Kernow126/03/2016
Parked at the large layby near Llanferres. The 25k map was invaluable in finding the tracks and paths in the forest.Sprog12/09/2015
Parked just W of high point on road to N at start of excellent ancient track through woods. A small track leads off left to a false top 100m N of pile of mossy rocks, which does not look much visited.GordonAdshead10/09/2015
From N, Maeshafn, lane S past pub, FP into wood signed W just before last cottage. Followed main track down: rejoins lane at a surprising place.RHW12/07/2014
