On a nice summers day I wore wellies, waterproof trousers and jacket. Took secateurs and gloves. Parked in rock climbers car park almost opposite RoW to N. Down through stables and horse fields. After the kissing gate through hedge followed path up to another gate. Here bear right in a long loop to find gate posts in meadow. Followed meadow to highest point of no bracken. Forced a way through bracken, over a hidden fence and up towards the rocks. Scrambled easily up these and cut a path through the gorse to the summit. Back the same way. | Minto | 17/07/2023 |
Easy parking to side of concrete track, 40m SW of RoW at SH 2214 8213 - Along RoW before making way across to Jim's gate at SH 22793 81852 - Managed to follow path for a while before losing it in dead bracken & gorse - Thrashed about in the gorse before finally hitting upon a path at SH 22820 81697; this led up up to the summit area & fairly easily across to summit rock. Same again going down! | gerrybowes | 31/10/2022 |
Parking just up the track W of Twr, along ROW to access land as far as SH230819 then an hour weaving & ducking along faint trails & weaknesses in the gorse cover to the summit rocks and back with Steve G. | Smudge | 18/09/2022 |
Not the best time of year to be doing this . From Twr . Found gate but it was still horrendous. Shoulder high gorse , brambles, bracken and heather. Even worse on the way down when I lost what at a pinch could possibly be described as paths. Wear long sleeves as well as waders. | Mark Sims | 30/06/2022 |
From N as others not as bad as I expected. The gate and hidden path seems to be key. The gorse bit to get onto the top is a pain but passable. Once on the top various tracks help avoid worst of gorse and brambles up to summit | Rob50 | 19/05/2022 |
Parked at the footpath; Followed the footpath on the OS map, it's very muddy and a bit overgrown but clear. I veered from the path thinking it was a more direct rout. Ended up wading through a jungle of Gorse, horrible, brambles didn’t help either. Finally made it to the bottom of the hill and I had to do some bouldering to get to the summit. I love climbing but it’s not for everyone. Maybe there’s an easier way but I’d rather climb than go through more brambles and gorse. Did not enjoy that one! | Skarletk | 03/03/2022 |
3 of 3 on 5.7 mile hike starting at south stack car park. Horrendous!! I’ve done my fair share of summits now but even as tiny as this one was it was one of the worst I’ve ever done. Legs cut to shreds. Take a machete | The-Z-Man | 15/01/2022 |
Parked in car park at SH 22145 82119 opposite the farm track and used Jim's gate to access the hidden path to the top. At the top I realised that the true top is on a parallel ridge so proceeded to battle my way across; definitely a connoisseurs top. The summit rocks are actually the remains of a chambered burial cairn | DC11main | 17/05/2021 |
1st of 3 tumps on a circular from the Breakwater Country park with Lesley who waited patiently near the farm. I followed the fp then headed direct over a gate then around outcrops to the sea of bracken. I climbed over the fence and scrambled up to bare rock but then still had to push through gorse and brambles to reach the summit. Managed to balance on the thin fin. Descent to bracken filled gully then scramble to reach broad area of bracken wading through it and over the fence finding fp linking back to the R.O.W and back to Lesley and the road, continuing to South Stack... | Dazingdale | 16/07/2019 |
As Dan to gate at 22793 81852 then path to flat top but summit is on a different top. Loads of gorse. | chrisbien | 15/04/2019 |
Path from Twr farm where the owner has made passing through the farm difficult with animals & no signage. Once past Tre Wilmot farm the way to the top is a nightmare hack though gorse & brambles. Not helped by my marking the wrong point on the map! | DanMaisieBex | 12/04/2019 |
Walked from the car park on the road out to South Stack. Path from the farm at Twr which then is indistinct apart from animal tracks through gorse. Solo. | bolton | 07/04/2019 |
From Holyhead Rail Station en route for South Stack. Hopped over locked gate SH22788185. V prickly thrash and difficult to find the same way back - could be useful to leave temporary markers at breaks of slope on the way up, but I didn't think of that at the time. | summitsup | 14/07/2018 |
From path to NW. Once in open access area, try to find horse paths thru' dense gorse | carole engel | 03/12/2017 |
Well that was fun. Jim's gate is at SH22793 81852 and there is a path of sorts, clearly used by horses judging by the manure. Worth the pain for the view. | Martin R | 12/06/2017 |
Initially parked on south side till Inoticed it looked horribly overgrown and that the mall showed paths from the north. Drive round there and good waymarked paths till close to summit area, where terrain gives way to lots of horse and three foot deep heather mixed with gorse! | vegibagger | 11/05/2017 |
From NW via RoW. Very prickly. On return noticed a pedestrian, galvanised gate giving access to summit area with less distance in prickles. It's around SH 2278 8184 | jimbloomer | 11/01/2017 |
At the end of November the gorse was still a big problem. Couldn't find a good path that totally avoids getting scratched badly. Take some waders. | andrew brown | 27/11/2016 |
Well marked RoW from the West onto access land then battle through colourful mix of Gorse, Heather and Bramble. Surprisingly good view point | RichardM | 06/08/2016 |
A bit of a thrash through gorse and heather, but rewarding views and possible tumulus or standing stones on top. ( most direct route from RoW is best) | Denise | 06/08/2016 |
Walked up footpath from NW. No way from point where it entered the upper access land, so walked back W along fence line and found old (locked) pedestrian gate almost due N of summit. Could just make out old track line up a gully, but had to fight through several patches of gorse. Stones of an old barrow on the summit. No chance of finding my S3 phone/GPS sadly dropped in one of the dense gorse patches. | GordonAdshead | 13/09/2015 |
From newish looking car park at SH 221 821. RoW most of the way then into head-high fern, gorse and bramble for a scratchingly great time! Long trousers and gaiters an advantage unless winter has quelled the rapacious vegetation! A rocky little top. | jonglew | 13/09/2015 |
From NNW, RoW now well signed in early stages and no bull in field. 2m scramble to gain summit. Was about to continue to South Stack to complete Anglesey, when Adrian emailed saying get to Abersoch NOW for Tudwal Island(s) trip. So one hill short of a UA, for now. | RHW | 19/04/2015 |
Parked opposite the small holding then used the footpath passed the stables and into the fields to gain access to a heavily vegetated summit. | Dugswell2 | 07/09/2014 |
Very rough vegetation around the summit. | Adrian | 25/08/2014 |
Small parking area just off the minor road opposite Twr Farm SH 22136 82124. The public footpath sign isn't immediately evident, you have to walk into the farm yard but it's there alright along with a surprisingly good path. At a stile there is a 'Beware of the Bull' sign. Take heed of this because they ain't kidding! I was thwarted at an attempt on this hill in July because of this bull. It was there again today but a lot further away so I risked it. After going through a gate carry on in a SE direction to a small gate at SH 22682 81632 onto the access land. The terrain is very rough so keep to the narrow paths which get you within 40m of the summit via a roundabout way. Summit is highest of 3 fins of rock. | David Gradwell | 31/12/2010 |
