Solo from space for car 421313. Follow the fence line straight up and down. Boggy lower part. | DampandDusty | 17/03/2024 |
From NE along fence line, a little boggy initially. Largely sheltered from the wind untill fine 100m. Had to hold onto trig pillar at summit | cjo | 29/09/2023 |
1/2 Climbed the Buck from the B road to the North, up the fence line (start just to the North West of this for a dryer first couple of hundred metres, the swing over to the fenceline. Then on to Kebbuck Knowe, no problem with the peat hags if you stick to the West of them tracks lead through. Back the same way. Smashing afternoon with views down to the Cairngorms and Lochnagar. Reflecting on the passing of the Queen. | nickywood1 | 13/09/2022 |
Walkhighlands suggested start at NJ 420255 - feint path starts off ok but soon disappears. Better start from road bend (where parking good) NJ 421 251. Follow E side of fence - path/trod indistinct at first but soon improves (after joining mapped track past grouse butts) at NJ 4204 2497 | carole engel | 25/07/2022 |
From the B9002 following fence line. | rhalstead | 20/06/2022 |

From roadside cutting at NJ424250, up old track along the grouse butts to the fence along NNE shoulder of The Buck, and followed a rough track along it to the summit, returning the same way (1h55m) | kdbennett | 02/03/2022 |
Up to kebbuck then onto this one and back down to the road. Very boggy | Pilotralph | 17/11/2021 |
From road at dawn, then onto Kebbuck Knowe | PeteF | 26/07/2021 |
With three friends. From Cabrach Church using the tarred track that goes west of Cabrach House to Powneed. From there we followed a track (not tarred) to Buck, a ruined farmhouse. We climbed up a heathery slope more or less directly to the summit of the Buck. I sat on the highest point, a rock about 3m from the trig point. We took a slightly different line down to Buck and then followed our outward route. No rain but rather cold for May. | pwbellarby | 14/05/2021 |
From the B9002 south of Elrick through the swamp and onto unexpected and glorious May snow slopes, which made the summit tor look like an Arctic apparition. On to Kebbuck Knowe through snow trenches in place of peat hags. | Nick Down1 | 05/05/2021 |
Route as Invitica, dry and sunny, wet underfoot despite this. Great views. | iangalbraith | 02/11/2020 |
Solo trip, very windy with drizzly showers. Do not understand fuss about bog. A party with just one car would do well to park at the bend NJ421251 and follow a wee path about 10m NW of the fence. Any boggy bits higher up can be easly sidestepped. Helicopter buzzed me on summit. | Invicta14 | 25/08/2018 |
From Dryford; path through heather. Rocky summit and Trig. Great views. Owl on roadside fence post. With S. | The Captain | 20/06/2018 |
Not too boggy after dry weather. Cuckoo at car park. Curlew, skylarks raven and meadow pipits. | gettingonabit | 17/06/2018 |
On TGO Challenge. Very demanding traverse from Creag an Sgor. Fish carvings on tor now hard to see | Colin Crawford | 21/05/2018 |
From road corner, over bog and straight up by fence. | Lionel Bidwell | 15/04/2018 |
The Buck (NJ 412235) S/F NJ 422251. Short walk across boggy lower slopes. Dry, sunny but cool, cloud base >2000'. | John Young | 01/04/2018 |
Great summit, shame about the terrain getting to it! 2nd of 5 today: Tap o'Noth, The Buck, Lord Arthur's Hill, Coiliochbhar Hill, Pressendye. | PGCE | 21/02/2018 |
Quick up and down over snow and frozen ground. Very clear skies offering far reaching views. | Peterb | 11/02/2018 |
Third hill of the day, and a very pleasant walk up from Dryford How along the fence. Wonderful views from the top. The path is not nearly as wet as some imply. Certainly much easier going than Burnhope Bog Seat for example... | Gill | 08/09/2017 |
Had planned The Buck from the north and the others as a separate trip but a grouse shoot got in the way so drove round to near Whitehillock farm to the south and up track and path top Greag an Eunan. then NNE over fairly rough going to The Buck and back mostly the same way to Creag an Sgorr and down by the path shown on the map. This is a once well made and substantial track (stalkers?) now long neglected and overgrown. Rough going out to The Buck and back detracts from this as a walk but may be better than the bog on the N side mentioned by the others below. | dickscroop | 21/08/2017 |
With Dianne Scorgie but NO Kasi the cocker. Low cloud all around but we managed to get a clear summit & surprisingly no rain. Startled a couple of Grouse closely followed by a couple of chicks. Hares spotted | LizzieG | 09/07/2017 |
Lovely countryside around this area. | IanHHill | 30/08/2016 |
Here for the trigpoint. TP:UK log:

Enjoyed the walk up here despite 3/4 of the path being very boggy underfoot. We followed the fence line from the road nearly all the way to the top. Great 360 degree views. Snow added to the enjoyment. | thejackrustles | 24/04/2016 |
1/2 with Elizyanne. Up through the gloop to the summit | GmacT | 08/04/2016 |

Good views, shame about the windfarm. Good little peak. Company: Jake the Black Lab. | iandesbottes | 20/05/2015 |
From bend, up by boundary, in cloud, with PM. | CJM | 13/02/2015 |
From 422252 where the car can be parked easily. A trudge through snow and ice with a return trip of under 2 hours. Meds and Marli the dog. | bolton | 13/02/2015 |
Not one of my favourite hills despite its local prominence. At the corner in the B9002, limited safe parking. There is a sort of path, but comments about the flat part being a bog are correct. It gets little better higher up where ice offset the benefits of frozen ground. The summit tor required use of hands. I found descending through long heather preferable to the icy path. | Topographer57 | 04/12/2014 |
1 of 2: From B9002 above Elrick. | ChrisR | 29/10/2014 |
3rd graham today after MG and LH | robertphillips | 04/07/2014 |
W Jenx from B road to north, small parking area on road bend. Easy if soggy line to gain the hill, on to Kebbuck Knowe and back over Craigenscore hill in descent (not a TuMP tho!). | nordicstar | 02/06/2014 |
With Liliana, Josie & Claudia | sclater | 29/12/2013 |
Bit of a boggy slog up but nice summit once there. | BigJ | 14/12/2013 |
Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 30/09/2013 |
Climbed via Lochan and Scad Hill. | mcbboyd | 31/07/2013 |
Up and down the same way from parking spot (lay-by on verge) at NJ421255 on B9002. The route to the summit is very boggy at first, I have done this route in winter conditions, it's a better proposition in those conditions. | sotabagger | 30/03/2012 |
I went up this one some time in 2011, with dad. | adamkw | 01/05/2011 |
Trig revisit. Atop fine rocky tor. Clear path from NNE, boggy in parts, don't think it was there in 1998. | RHW | 23/05/2009 |
Solo. From the B9002 road at burn crossing SE of Meikle Cairn straight up to the summit and down. | pwbellarby | 22/04/2009 |

On my Mull of Kintyre to Fraserburgh walk | BLACKHILL | 17/05/2007 |
climbed from the Rhynie road through the inappropriately named Dry Knowe and then a straightforward bash to the top for great vies of the Strathdon hills and Ben Avon | torkm | 10/07/2006 |
Pleasant summit and viewpoint. Ascended after an orienteering event on Deeside. | JohnW | 02/08/2005 |
Access area off B9002. Followed fence up over heather to a better but still wet path on E side. Showers and cold. Top at 13.30. Trig on concrete slab on topmost boulder of outcrop. Took some dodging to clamber up - they must have enjoyed building this one! | arranc | 20/06/2004 |
