4 of 4: BigJ's route closed for timber so we parked at 083299 as Tony S. Track to 0937 2903 then another track zig zags to 092296. Then easily up through trees to the cairn. Heard thunder on the way up. Rain starting as we reached the car. A95 flooded-deep- near Grantown. With Karen. | ChrisR | 02/06/2022 |
With big J | Nozzer | 01/03/2022 |
Parked near spot height 277 to the SSE of the summit. Followed the marked track N to the old cottage/bothy then turned W. The tracks shown on the 1:25000 do exist and lead to just below the top. A short pull up a forestry machine track landed us on the flat summit. There is a large cairn which, by our calculations, was not quite on the real top. With Nozzer. | BigJ | 01/03/2022 |
from layby on A95 | BLACKHILL | 29/09/2021 |
Lay by parking on A95 at ca 083299 just before marked track. Followed this SE for about 800m (to just after gate) then indistinct trail direct through trees. Better return via unmarked track (crossed during ascent) which bypasses thicker woodland to reach original track at ca 092291. | Tony S | 18/09/2021 |
Alan’s capercaille put in another (inelegant) fly-past just below the summit as I was descending. First one I’ve ever seen. | AndyS | 22/07/2021 |
Followed track that starts c500m SW of Easter Rynaballoch, then 200m on track to left once cottage reached, through hole in fence then via several very rough forest vehicle tracks to unforested summit area with nearby large boulder cairn. | willyross | 24/12/2020 |
Parked just off A95 N of Dallachapple. Followed tracks up hill then back to car. Started raining at top. | 187lenny | 09/06/2019 |
V easy from main road to NW of woodland. Tack leads after short distance up to pair of gates w good parking. Followed west side of trees to good track cutting back North. From junction with the track that circumvents hill cut up pretty much direct to top. Gorgeous sunset going on. Modest cairn on top, no way overly large MR!! | nordicstar | 25/01/2018 |
Same route as Richard McLellan. Absurdly large cairn. | Martin R | 13/05/2017 |
From forest road which starts ~500m SW of Wester Rynaballoch almost a direct line to summit via track, firebreak and then through open forest to open summit area with large partially collapsed cairn at its SW corner (not high point). A fine sunset. | RichardM | 27/06/2016 |
Parked in layby on A95 and took track east alongsouthern boundary of wood. After 1km approx used forest tracks to within 400m of top. Easy hack to summit cairn. | garyhoney | 22/06/2016 |
Ziggy track from north to near summit then rough track with lots of fallen trees to open summit area with views. Some lovely mixed woodland and old trees, looked great covered in all the fresh snow. Good view of a capercaillie flying past on the way up. | alda | 23/02/2016 |
Walk east along southern edge of wood then north up through easy open Caledonian pine forest and clear on top with big slightly broken down cairn and nice stone seat. | vegibagger | 24/10/2015 |
From NJ110296. Left forest road SE of summit and followed muddy vehicle track to summit clearing. Trees well spaced above forest road. | mae | 21/04/2015 |
Up from A95 lay-by on forest side via track at NJ 096318. On-line 50,000 map shows extra loop on NE side not on 1996 that needs to be ignored. With RH. Left track N of summit and broke through dense trees and crap to clearing. Return W to track. High point to N of big cairn. | Eddie | 05/03/2015 |
Followed Speyside Way trail into the forest from the north and then ascended forest tracks. On the top there were many brashings and other debris, but found these could be avoided by approaching the summit from the south. Previous ascent in April 2012. | JohnW | 22/04/2013 |
