Parked on A970 near Oxensetter Farm. Followed track past farm to end then directly to summit of Mid Field across relatively easy terrain. Along ridge to summit. Sunny and not too windy! | Winterfloodian | 28/05/2023 |
Parked at masts. Mid Field and Ronas Hill in clag both ways. No views and a navigational challenge. Thankful for GPS | Crib Goch | 23/05/2023 |
Parked at masts and went over Mid Field, interesting landscape and noticed very few birds compared to other Shetland Hills. Went to HP, trig and chambered cairn. My last British County/UA top, on a clear but cool and breezy day. | PeterD | 15/05/2023 |
Started from the road junction at Swinster. Ascended Hill of Voe, then across burns to Ronas Hill. Beautiful sunny day, not too much wind. Chambered cairn at top is interesting. Walked down to Lang Ayre and onto the sand, then back over Ronas Hill, Mid Field and Collafirth Hill before descending back to Voe, in the dark, crossing numerous peat hags. One of my favourite walks, especially the visit to Lang Ayre. | PiranhaFish | 07/02/2023 |

Parked up by the masts, set off to run over the rocky ground - turned into a slow meander. Followed the cairns in the intermittent mist / sun over Mid Field, then on and up to the summit of Ronas Hill - no real view due to the low cloud | madaddo | 28/07/2022 |
Last Scottish Co Top. To add to already completed England, Wales and Ireland. | davefh | 21/06/2022 |
Didn't see Nigel! But we did meet some Irish archaeologists (the North Roe Felsite Project). | Pete R | 24/04/2022 |
As others from the parking near masts. Over the easy going alpine tundra landscape. Clear but continuing the nagging cold north wind theme. | N.Morters | 24/04/2022 |

150th time. walked up from main road, back to Mid field, North down ridge to West end of Roer Water and visit to Neolithic homestead, East to Follow burn exiting Loch, up to cairn on Beorgs of Housetter, then back to car at bottom of Collafirth Hill. 10 miles with snow underfoot and occasional snow flurries, beautiful walk. | Neil Fraser | 28/11/2021 |
From the masts at Collafirth Hill, over Mid Field then onto Ronas Hill. Returned slightly more directly to the South of Mid Field. Easy going, 4.4miles 1hr 50 walking time. With KeithByTheC | JulieB | 30/06/2021 |

MC JC O. Took the campervan up to the car park at the masts despite a notice warning of the need for 4x4. No issue. Waited awhile to see if the hill cleared ... but it didn't. Very windy. Great arctic tundra style surface. Some interesting plant life.. fragile. Really interesting intact prehistoric burial chamber on top. Route back as per ascent. Surprised to find 3 other people on the hill. Logged our ascent in the summit log book ... and enjoyed a chocolate! Thanks! | Martin66 | 08/09/2020 |

Summited at 07:44. Parked at masts to east and nipped up. No views, Misty. Signed log book. | assynt_bob | 21/06/2019 |
From Collafirth Hill - misty on top. | Chris Peart | 15/06/2019 |
Third visit to Ronas Hill, after a splendid approach along the north west cliffs and the Lang Ayre. Sadly, the mist refused to shift as I traversed the hill to Ronas Voe | Colin Crawford | 15/06/2019 |
Solo from the masts on Collafirth Hill. Delayed my start and had a coffee stop, as I could see from afar much mist/cloud on the top. Was rewarded with excellent views when I got there and the mist had gone away. Crawled into the chambered cairn as well as visiting the trig point and the granite slab that is the highest point. | pwbellarby | 14/06/2019 |
Misty but hints of lifting. Summit about 20metres west of trig pillar. Alex left and I stayed to go into the chambered cairn. A guy who'd just arrived at the trig shouted across, 'Had I signed the log book/register. I hadn't. His name was Neil Fraser and need put the log books there along with a tin of Roses chocolates and others that he wad topping up today. He'd been up Ronas Hill 97 times. He'd Allah mapped meticulously and walked the entire watershed. While we were talking the most all cleared for great views. | vegibagger | 14/06/2019 |
Day really got going after leaving the summit. Continued on west to walk the coast right up to Point of Fethaland, taking in tidal island Uyea along the way. Arrived back at Voxter in the early hours of the morning but it was well well worth it. Got to go down as one of my most memorable walking days ever. | Alex C | 14/06/2019 |
A misty ascent | curlebd | 09/06/2019 |

With E. Our most northerly county summit! Parked by telecomms masts at Collafirth Hill. Uyea Scord > Man o‘ Scord > Rona Field > Mid Field > Shurgie Scord > Ronas Hill. Plenty of cairns marking the way if visibility had been poor. Signed visitors book inside metal box tucked behind trig point! Clambered into Chambered Cairn. Fantastic 360° views from this arctic world on a lovely day. More direct return route with telecomms masts to aim for. Great walk with ground surprisingly dry and easy going underfoot. | Beeliner | 06/09/2018 |
A fine walk from the mast car park at Collafirth Hill. Easy going all the way, via Mid Field on mossy grass, granite gravel and small rocks. A bit like the Cairngorms but a fraction of the altitude. The Neolithic chambered cairn near the top is superb and it's worth going to the lower NW cairn for the fine view. Numerous blue hares seen on the way back. | Gill | 25/08/2018 |
From the comms mast, over Mid Field first. | jonglew | 25/08/2018 |
Parked at masts and walked up - quite tough going but mostly dry underfoot thanks to the balmy weather recently. Nice views on way up. Wrote in book on summit. With GFE and also trimarc2 and PJB made it up. | Fionalevey | 06/08/2018 |

Parked at the masts in cloud. Collarfirth Hill - Ronas Hill top - NW towards Ketligill Head - down Burn of Monius to beach with fixed rope assist - return NE along cliff top - Swabie Water - Man o'Scord - Collarfirth Hill mast. Ronas Hill summit in cloud but got better later in the day. With Gillian | richard69 | 27/07/2018 |
After being defeated by giant killer birds on Orkney CT - and the weather wasn’t too good either, succeeded in reaching this top. Parked at the masts and pretty straight forward up and back in what I imagine are typically windy conditions. | Newton Maximus | 24/06/2018 |
My Fair Isle flight was iffy so found myself here instead. Drove up to masts at Collafirth in wet and windy weather and with no visibility walked over Mid Field to Ronas. Behind the trig point is a metal box with book and an unopened can of Stella left over from previous evening summer solstice party. Directly back to masts in zero visibility after visiting high point 20m from trig.. | NormanW | 22/06/2018 |
Drove to masts at Collafirth. Easy walking but it was misty and no views. Up by Roga Field and Mid Field and on to summit on a bearing. Returned same way but almost got lost at col in mist. | Coinneach | 25/05/2017 |
Parked at the aerials. An early morning ascent over the granite landscape. Particularly enjoyed the prehistoric cairn which you can crawl into. Great views too. | mindlessflogger | 25/08/2016 |
Interesting landscape and easy walking. | jenx | 10/06/2016 |
Repeat w Jenx and Supervans. Similar day, same line. New visitor book and box on top. Last one gone. | nordicstar | 10/06/2016 |
A major landmark for me! By climbing Ronas Hill, I achieved all the traditional County Tops in the British Isles (i.e. Great Britain, the Isle of Man, and Ireland; but not the Channel Islands).
By pure chance, not pre-planned, this completion took place on the 27th anniversary of my Munro compleation.
On my date of ascent, on the LDWA Hillwalkers Register I am the eighth person to achieve this feat. However on this site there are only two ahead of me. Of course there are almost certainly others who have not reported anywhere - but I suspect rather few, County Tops are a rather esoteric pursuit. | David Purchase | 03/06/2016 |
Main reason for this trip to Shetland - bagging Ronas Hill on 2016 mission to do all the Scottish County tops. Beautiful sunny day everywhere else on Shetland - unfortunately a thin blanket of cloud clung tenaciously to Ronas Hill. Quite a Martian landscape - red rocks everywhere. From masts via Mid Field. Return more to the south over the Ballia Cletts. | callumorr | 30/05/2016 |
