From the parking spot on the A970 next to the track, walked up road to the summit. Easy bag worth the walk up rather than driving it. 2 miles ~ 40mins round trip. Onto Royl FieldJulieB20/06/2021
Walked up drivable track from A970. KeithByTheC20/06/2021
Beautiful pink winter dusk to watch the world going to bed (having just flown back in from Aberdeen). The roads on the Ward of Scousburgh are all private roads, the public use them only because no-one has prevented them. The full public road that heads NE from Scousburgh ends at the Vanlop. Everything thereafter was formerly the old peat road which the RAF took over and upgraded in the early 60's to be access to the Mossy Hill station. Since that was demolished the road has just been there. It was not officially handed back to the Peat Road Committee from whom it was obtained. The road up from E is not public - built in WWII to access the military installations on the Ward of Scousburgh, it ended at the top of the hill. BT took it over when they built the THRS station in the 70's, upgraded it and built the section down the W side to connect to the Mossy Hill station access road, for a choice of routes in times of snow. Since BT vacated the THRS station the road is just there.Chris Pearson24/02/2021

Drove up from the A road. Metalled road in not brilliant condition but navigable in 2wd car.jonglew18/08/2018
Second Marilyn of the day, and slightly less easy than Fitful Head, given that you need to walk a little bit further from the car to get to the top. Having said that, the drive up the hill (from the A970) is much easier, on a wider tarmac road with crash barriers. You can make it a bit more of a walk by walking a little way along the road to the gate to avoid the BWF.Gill18/08/2018
Cheeky lazy one. Drove up then quickly wakes through gate to trig. With trimarc2, PJB & GFEFionalevey03/08/2018

Walked up the main road from the east: not a strenuous walk so didn't feel I could justify driving up.benalder28401/04/2014
Parked on road at 380201 (entrance to Geosetter) (10:40). S along road then up fields, across a minor road finally to the trig point next to the masts (11:20). Back by same route to car (11:50). Dry day, good view to St Ninian's Isle.dbb04/09/2013
After arriving at Sumburgh Airport. With a friend. Our first objective was Ward of Scousburgh. The map used showed a track going to the summit from the A970 as well as another coming from the west. We expected to walk up the track from the A970. However, we found the track tarred with no barriers so we drove up the track. On the summit are two large masts. The track ends between them. Ascent time to summit 1 minute! The highest point is just next to the trig point. It was very foggy so we had no views at all.pwbellarby26/08/2013

Drizzle!bolton10/08/2012
From the A970 there is a signpost that says THRS and you can drive within 50 metres of the summit. Indeed, you can sleep in a motorhome there, after watching the sun set over Foula. Shame about the masts and the occasional motorhome spoiling the scenery.Martin R07/05/2012
Cycled up from main road. Folk use this track to get over to west coast, seemingly!Eddie19/08/2011
