| From car park at the bottom of the Skyscape access road. Took the 'track' shown on the map to the north but it's actually trees and swamp. On leaving the trees and swamp, the difficulties start in earnest. Heather, sponge, holes etc all the way to the summit and further and steeper than I'd envisaged. It's unlikely anyone would repeat this hill. | Drove forest road to second gate for Kielder Skyspace (NY 6109 9288). Parked there and took the narrow track heading SW to break out of forest and then over deep heather/bilberry tussocks, awkward ground. Trig first then boundary stone the back to high point. | jonglew | 09/06/2023 |
| Attempted the mountain bike trail route but completely blocked by fallen trees (Storm Arwen). Re-routed to 250m NW of Kielder Skyspace a forest road runs SW towards the moorland - actually no more than an overgrown path but it offers an easy way through the forest. | Cycled up access road towards Skyscape, turning left about 100m before it. Mountain bike trail crosses forest road and wiggles through the trees before becoming a raised wooden track over the rough tussocky heather. Left bike about 250m from the trig point. | mae | 20/08/2018 |
| Ascent mostly as Aye Jimmy - every bit as horrible as previous logs suggest! From skyspace followed track on 1:25k OSmap, which only exists on ground for 200m then is just a gap through the trees to NY6067,9263 then direct over brash, tussocks, heather and sudden holes in the ground to trig point. Summit could be anywhere - visited same points suggested by AJ. Descent was easier - strayed E and picked up a raised cycle track which I followed down to forest track leading back to Skyspace - further but vastly easier. | Crib Goch | 29/07/2017 |
| Walked up to Skyspace then about 250m beyond took track SW. This rapidly degenerated into undergrowth, small beck followed with push through spruce to emerge from trees. Then 700m of tussocks and deep heather to trig. | Parked in the Kielder Skyspace car park and followed the road up past it. Turned right at the subsequent junction. All OK so far.The fun really starts when to try and follow the SW running forest clearing to the edge of the forest. This has been logged and the clearing is a mass of brash which takes some clambering over. Then, when you reach the moor, it is very rough ground with ankle breaking tussocks and deep, hidden gullies. | With Jo, walk from Kielder Youth Hostel on forest tracks past the Kielder Skyspace then through trees and across rough heather onto Purdom Pikes. Good views from summit. | Lewisburn to Kielder. A slow, rough plod from Larriston along the border - marked path not in evidence. Ground W of trig looks higher.
