A mountain bike would be useful in these parts | Adrian | 16/02/2022 |
Up from Alwinton > straight the south ridge and through the trees. Onto Peat Law NT90609 10122 by forest roads | Andrew Simmons | 22/01/2022 |
#4 of 8 from Alwinton | jimbloomer | 15/07/2021 |
From Alwinton via Clennell along the road and forest roads > Inner Hill E (NT 927 110). Top is easily accessable from NNE through gap in planting. Then forest roads > Inner Hill W (NT 913 113). Forest felled but the summit surrounded by a 6 foot high fence; climbable if you have a mind to. Forest roads and paths > Sneer Hill. Tracks and paths via Whiteburnshank to Clennell Street and return to Alwinton. At the moment the marked paths are mostly non-existent on the ground. | JohnR | 01/05/2021 |
All FPs in area blocked by tall bracken, only tracks walk-able | carole engel | 21/07/2019 |
Done on spur of moment, so grossly miscalculated this one. Direct from Nettlehope, brash, steep descent of forest into valley, burn crossing, equally steep forest on other side. Longer but much easier via Whiteburnshank on return. Two old lichenous cairns on top, square wooden post nearby and sedge(?). NE cairn maybe slightly higher than SW one, highest point could be tussocky ground 10m W of NE cairn. | Aye Jimmy | 05/06/2016 |
Couldn't use the ROW from Heigh as the vegetation was impenetrable. So resorted to a very long backtrack before picking up the Whiteburnshanks road. Not a pleasant experience as there was logging taking place all around me. | moorsman | 30/07/2015 |
With Darren during day 2 of OMM 2014. Short score c/p on summit reached via a convoluted winding route using forest tracks and some rough stuff straight line brashings. Steep descent through ride of sorts to west, emerging covered in sweat and pine needles. Then just run down the valley on tracks with the usual cramping legs on anything not downhill to the finish whilst forcing down sickly H5. | Chris Pearson | 26/10/2014 |
heathery summit, OK half-view. 22mi acw circuit from Barrow Burn, steep ascent of S ridge, nice descent NW via marked f/p | RHW | 14/05/2005 |
