A round of Harrot, Embleton High Common and Widow Hause from parking space just before Harrot Farm gates.Alan Caine14/01/2024
From lay-by/parking space just before Harrot Farm gates, easy up and down along the footpath to the open access fell and Embleton High Common diverting to Harrot on the way. A little disappointed by the farm gates as from previous comments I was expecting some kind of Norman Keep! 8 gates in total on to the fell. Cute miniature ponies on the path, disturbed three hares on Harrot. Large herd of cows with calves camped on the path - bypassed on the way up due to the excursion on to Harrot but required a bit of a wide berth on the way back. All was going well until the first set of double gates which were guarded by a bull who ambled off with a glare as I approached. Through the first gate and another bull was resting his head on the second gate making vaguely threatening noises. A Mexican stand off ensued while I stared him down and wondered what to do if he didn't move but I won the match and he wandered off to see his ladies. Nice walk lovely views from both tops. Parking spaces to NW, through heavy double gates then FP most of way. Up pasture to top with good views, then back to path to go to Embleton High Common.PeterD21/04/2023
From Embleton Church. 14 km, 590 m asc. SW to Harrot Farm and E up the track with detour to the summit of Harrot, then onto Embleton High Common (Sy) and S up to Kirk Fell. Onto Graystones (W and B) and down the fence to Widow Hause. Contour NE to cross Wythop Moss and up to Burthwaite Heights and then W to Ling Fell. Down the SW flank to join Tom Rudd Beck and back by Highside Farm and Beckhouse. Cold, sunny, frozen. https://www.flickr.com/photos/samandjo/albums/72177720305403425SalmonJoe21/01/2023
Domed sheep pasture with good views just off RoW. Parking in layby to west by footpath with large but unlocked farmyard gate.Denise 01/01/2023
Walked up the bridleway through a range of gates and then across grassland to the highest point. No cairn but there is some evidence that there may have been one in the past.JohnW09/03/2022
Parking on gravel at bend NY 151282. Through fortress double gates and RoW through farmyard, E then SE up good track. Beware unmapped BWF-hedge combo starting NY 160278 which, if inadvertently followed, can be crossed via two gates at about NY 158276. Multiple lush green grassy tops. RoW continues until it enables access to Open Access area at NY 164275.Isbjorn03/01/2022

There's a high gate at the start of the track but it's easily opened. Track then pasture to obvious topColin Crawford21/02/2020
The hardest part is locating the start of the path at Harrot Hill Farm. There is a bridlegate deep in the hedge just after the impressive farm fortifications. This is followed by a series of small gates hidden in a passage between the farm buildings. From then on a clear track leads to the small valley between the summit and an adjacent hill. Summit not actually visible until you are almost on it. No time saved by shortcutting across the field. 2.63km return, took me just under an hour.moorsman16/10/2019

From the footpath on the way to Kirk Fell. Farmer was happy to let us go, as long as we kept away from pregnent ewes.Moorponder29/12/2017

Parked on verge above Jenkin farm. Through gate following faint track through another gate by wood and open fell to Embleton High Common (Synge w good view). Down to damp col and easily up Harrot to gain top amongst sheep. View down Lorton Vale and Cockermouth pleasant. Back down to conifer wood and contoured hill back to start at 200m in 30minsnordicstar18/12/2016
Unaware of Harrot when doing Birketts & Synges or no doubt this would have been nicely scooped up on a tour over these grassy tops then. Today during Ullock stay took Fp from NW with L on a lovely sunny windy day with cumulus clouds and their shadows scudding across the fells- this is a good and unusual viewpoint e.g Mellbreak in sunlight and shadows looking impressive as ever. Continued over Greystones tops to Broom Fell then descent N over Burthwaite Heights and pastures down to road through gates to avoid Wythop swamp. lovely green lane skirting under Link Fell and blackberries -then shopping in Cockermouth and back to take Molly the dog for a short walk at Ullock (sadly too slow / reluctant to join us on the fells).Chris Pearson26/08/2016
