From the limited parking in the disabled car park at 4:30pm, with no one else around. Grey misty views around Lakeland to end a fine year of bagging. Then had a few words with my Mum ('s ashes) nearby.Minto31/12/2023

A very tiny car park to the SW where the path starts. Pass through the gate and walk as far as the end of the wood. Then head upwards along a good track. After reaching a point level with the summit head across the easy grassland to it.moorsman20/05/2022

From parking on minor road, easy scamper to top. Great views of the Tarn and distant Langdale Pikesnordicstar02/02/2018
Easily accessible above the bridleway from Tarn Hows. Cold and low cloud obscured what otherwise is probably a good viewpoint.Karmakarl14/01/2018
Solo to summit. From Far End, Coniston via Shepherd Bridge, High Guard and Tarn Hows Cottage.ADT05/10/2017
What a daft and unimaginative name for a hill, or indeed a fell. Easy ascent up double gravel track through trees from gate at end of National Trust disabled viewing car park (no we didn't park there). Obvious top with excellent views and so much quieter than the tourist path around Tarn Hows just below. Did a quick circuit of lake then off for a pint at the Drunken Duck, which still has excellent beer even if food overpriced gastro.Hillsidenick02/05/2017

Varied and interesting walk for poor weather when cloud base is down to 1000ft, like today. Tarn Hows NT car park (free for NT members or £7.00 for the day)Hill Fell (take the track up and right from the gate and you're almost there) Black Fell, Park Fell, Great How, Holme Fell, Yew Tree Tarn, Tom Heights.ijpowell26/06/2015
Gentle stroll from the upper NT carpark (disabled drivers). Miniscule grassed over quarry on summit with twin ridges.Aye Jimmy21/03/2015
...and splendour, splendour, everywhere! (Betjeman). What a day - ground ice hard, blue sky, snow on the higher tops, low winter sunshine and fog just below us blanketing the valleys. Quite something. Many photos and a short film taken of our strong shadows walking along cast against a parallel grassy bank - a rare combination of low sun and angled bank. At Rose Cottage - a NT holiday cottage, a heating engineer's van pulled up -the poor residents must have had a heating breakdown.Chris Pearson29/12/2014
With Jo, walk from Tarn Hows: Black Fell (Black Crag), out and back to Park Fell, then onto Hill Fell. Weather; high cloud, cold wind, good visibility.amblerbob13/04/2014

An interesting if somewhat complicated route bagging anything that remotely resembled a hill from the main NT car park at Tarn Hows. The fresh fall of snow impeded our progress but we still managed a hefty haul. Namely; Hill Fell, Torver Intake, Arnside Intake, Black Fell, Park Fell, Great How & Tom Heights. Not advisable in the height of summer, methinks the bracken would bite!David Gradwell17/03/2013

No summit. Looking for skiable snow to try - out my new cross country skis. I thought the track around Tarn Howes might be suitable, but frustratingly the snow cover was too thin, scraping my skis on rocks and tree roots. Plus it was not deep enough to snowplough when going downhill. Ended up carrying them back to car.Chris Pearson16/01/1987
