A 15.5 mile walk. High Tongue (234m) as a warm up, then Wallowbarrow Crag (292m), Wallowbarrow Heald (371m), Iron Crag (408m), Birker Fell - White How (444m), Great Worm Crag (427m), Birker Fell - Great Crag (333m), Broad Crag - Birker Fell (372m), Green Crag (488m), Crook Crag (469m), Great Whinscale (427m), Dow Crag (404m) and finally Harter Fell (Eskdale) (653m). The cloud was low all day so I'd opted for lower fells which worked well as these were all out of the cloud, except Harter. Harter did dip out a couple of times for photos but it was back in the cloud by the time I arrived. It was a tough going walk, ferns and bogs so quite a demanding day, but nice to explore this area in detail. I had some sun and some showers and some nice views in atmospheric conditions. I parked at the foot of this so popped up without the bag at the start. Ferns not as problematic as they first looked!meltdiceburg12/07/2023

Good parking to SW. Rocks, Bracken and tussocks to negotiate to top. Came back to road slightly easier way made easier by time of year, would not like to have done this one in summer.PeterD28/12/2021
High bracken traverse from N to South! Probably better in winter. No brambles though. HP outcropping rock; also visited other outcrops to be sure! With Tony G and Richard. Onto Wallowbarrow Crag.Denise 03/09/2021
From the N, once you leave the path it's moderately rough going through heather and grass tussocks with patches of bracken and a DSW to cross. Summit area of rock outcrops, highest on E side. Descend S through deep bracken. With Denise and Tony.RichardM03/09/2021
From FP sign at point 174. Ok route at this time of year but I guess it will not be pleasant when bracken has growntrimarc227/02/2020
11/11 From Seathwaite, up Walna Scar then Brown Pike, Buck Pike, Dow Crag, Brim Fell, Little How Crags, Great How Swirl Band, Swirl How, Great Carrs, Grey Friar, then down to Seathwaite tarn on delightful path and round to Long Crag - through Bracken and back down valley on Bridleway to High Tongue (High Tongue is an awful struggle in tussocks but not for too long - climb it from South rather than North and it will be shorter for you). 7 hours.nickywood103/08/2019
Parked by the central cattle grid at 164m (there are, in fact, three cattle grids). Headed uo the north side of the wall. This is a mistake as the wall has to be crossed higher up. Stay to the south and a steep, if brief, climb up to the summit.1.02 km return, 20 minutes.moorsman08/05/2019
I like it round here; lots of trees, rocky outcrops and relatively un-grazed. From spot 174.Wycombe Wanderer02/03/2019
Easy from parking area at start of FPs. With B and R.jenx26/02/2019
With Jenx and Bryher following faint track from parking in big off road area to SSW. Two summit areas, visited both to be sure.nordicstar26/02/2019

Good roadside parking at SD 2308 9748. Short NE walk to HP.jonglew17/12/2017
Came down the lovely old bridleway from Grassguards. The woods are beautiful and full of wood ant nests! Crossed the stepping stones and up to this fine little hill. With Evan, Sail, Coel & Alfie.Dangerous Dave06/05/2017
High Tongue from GR: SD 23073 97466ronaldo33329/04/2017
Good track from the cattle grid to the north, but very uneven ground away from it, due to the cattle grazing on the soft surface.JohnW06/10/2015
From road to NW with some tussocky ground.Aye Jimmy03/06/2015
Both High Tongue & Pen from small parking area by minor road at SD 23081 97474.David Gradwell07/05/2015
Car park SW of summit where paths cross road. Failed to summit on 1st visit in 2014 - it's the most E top and looks lower against the perspective of the high fells above it.jimbloomer10/03/2015
An easy 10 min shorty up and down linking rock ribs to avoid the worst of the bracken and tussock tangle. Left L eating her sandwiches in the weak sun by the road. On a 4 hours 4 tops round walk from Stickle Pike road top.Chris Pearson30/12/2014
With Jo, walk from Seathwaite: Pen and High Tongue (the high bracken only problem on these fells). Weather; cloudy, rain later, moderate visibility.amblerbob07/10/2014
