A lovely lunch in the Brown Horse Inn at Winster worked off with a walk up to Cat Crag and Scott Howe. Initially up the minor road towards Knipe Tarn, heading off-road to Cat Crag once a field gate NW of the summit is reached. Lots of bracken over to Bow Mabble Breast, but much easier once on the ROW and track towards Scott Howe. Returned via the A5074.summitter08/10/2023
Small but opportune layby 300m SE of the pub in Winster. Walk back towards the pub and take a gate immediately before the juction leading onto the open access. Follow the good track until it finishes then ..... sheer hell through bracken and brambles to the summit. Took a pathless 45 minutes each way to the top . An experience I will never repeat.moorsman22/09/2022
Parked in the layby just south east of Winster. Then used paths/tracks on access land all the way to the summit. Then more or less a direct route to Scott Howe and straight back down to the road.Alan Caine03/06/2022
Parked on the road by a gate beyond Knipe Tarn. Over the gate and up to Cat Crag, then headed north across the unfrequented territory visiting Undermillbeck Common and finally Capple Brow. Lots of deer about.(S)silveracorn_alan17/02/2022
Parked near Knipe Tarn, along road to gate, pasture to wall and to HP. With C.PeterD23/12/2021
From north using farm land from gate and over wall to summit. Avoided access land due to deer fence.conanharrod31/01/2021
Approached through access land from A5074 near the Brown Horse in Winster (gate at SD 4190 9349). No problems. Deer fencing has been added to the wall north of the summit; the approach from the north therefore not recommended.dickiewren29/11/2020
from the gate, field then over the wall to the top.robertphillips08/10/2020
From Brown Horse in Winster Valley, Cat Crag then down to rhs of house with its own Lake!!, to minor road, along the BOAT, turn up into field when it levels via barbed wire duck under, then Undermill Beck Common, Easy down and across to Capple Barrow from this side, no need to get into conflict with the Golf course, then back via Gilpin Farm to pick up footpaths and bridleways up to Hart Howe, direct across with open gates onto Lords Lot. Then directly down into the Gilpin Valley, to pick up the footpath from Foxhole Bank (house) to reach Scott Howe, then back over directly west to pick up bridleway almost back to the pub. A nice route with do'able off piste bits!nickywood123/03/2019
From SD 4231 9420, field gate then easy ground. Stone wall needed to be negotiated for the last 5m to gain the summit outcrop.jonglew25/10/2018
Very easy stroll from spot height 158. My last fell in the rough bounds of Crook.Wycombe Wanderer07/10/2018
Winster church - Rulbuts Hill - Green Lane - Undermillbeck Common - Knipe Tarn - CAT CRAG. Lovely walk on a beautiful sunny day. Snow everywhere. First Lakes walk of the year.citygent07/02/2018
Crossed wall into access land 250m N of PH, from minor road. Followed wall easily over dead bracken to summit. Descent following E side of wall N to Knipe Tarn and minor road.Moorponder04/04/2017

As Aye Jimmy. Parked by gate at SD 42306 94192.David Gradwell23/04/2016
3 of 6 Tumps on a circular 3hr run from Bowness before 10.00 am. After Scott Howe- 1 wall to cross in then 1 wall out N after summit climbed at step change (as AJ) and easy fast run down grass N to lane.Chris Pearson08/01/2016
I ascended from Winster via the Access Land but it was rough going. There is parking via an access gate at SD 4230 9418 with only the barbed wall to conquer to attain the summit.jimbloomer25/09/2015
From Pub. Head high bracken once track runs out. Jimmy's route would be better.PeteF26/07/2015
From SSW, with Scott HoweRHW18/04/2015
From NW, park by gate. Up field to wall at top, six deer seen. Rocky outcrop on other side of wall; easiest to cross at step-change in height of wall just to N.Aye Jimmy04/03/2015
