Soft verges so parked in Hutton Roof - As others, RoW to step stile at 579783, veered right through wide gap in gorse & E. alongside wall to summit area; a section of wire fencing in bwf was crossed at broken stile - Visited the gorse knoll on W. side of wall (Westmorland) at SD 58180 78110 & then easily over wall into Lancashire & high point close to wall at SD 58188 78122.gerrybowes04/04/2024
Parking- just about space, then using RoW as Richard M but no need to cross fence as there's a wooden section where fence meets wall. Quarry is for the shales used in walls nearby and explains the mud after 2 dry limestone hillspwheeler09/03/2024
A round out of Burton-in-Kendal bagging Dalton Hill, Hutton Roof Crags, Longfield Hill, Highheads Wood, Hunger Hills, Farleton Fell and Hanging HillPhilipChaston28/01/2024
From lane to W. On RoW, initially a muddy track between walls and then over pasture. After crossing into the 3rd field I leave the path and head SE over grass between areas of gorse to DSW. E along the wall and over wire fence to old wooded quarry. High point a grassy rise on SE edge of quarry. I walk around the edge of the quarry before returning the same way.RichardM29/09/2023

Limited parking on the verge at the start of the footpath east of Hutton Roof. Follow the path until you come to a stone step stile into the third field. Continue alongthe path for about 100m and look right (uphill). There is a distinctive break in the thick gorse. Go through this break and you will come across what appears to be an old estate wall (obvious). This wall will lead you, obstruction free, to the summit. Any other way leads you into thick gorse and windblown trees.moorsman08/05/2023

Walked from Low Biggins on mild, but hazy, afternoon on path with many stiles unsuitable for geriatrics and/or plump dogs. With Oscar.catman22/03/2022

3/3 Hutton Roof then Farleton Fell (both revisits) then via Hutton Roof village to Longfield Hill. Nice new year's day walk with the LDWA Group.nickywood101/01/2020
Both summits relatively easy access - secateurs and gardening gloves may help. GPS suggests more Northerly top the highest - this is also the easiest to reach (from the wall to the east)carole engel01/01/2019
Roadside verge parking (SD 5738 7835). RoW to a wall style at SD 5794 7829, whence veered off for the old quarry and summit.jonglew30/11/2018
Parked in wide field entrance south of Gale Barn Farm. Fp most of way before entering wood. Summit next to high wall.Campbell Singer05/06/2018
Hutton Roof Crags & Longfield Hill. From Dalton Crags Quarry car park. With Stephen. Not sure where the exact pinnacle is but I've got the scratches to prove I tried!ADT17/12/2017
Parked in Hutton Roof, walked down lane to bridge and then lane up through unoccupied farm buildings, picking up FP to hill crest. Then up to top w quarry and gorsey high point. About 60mins return.nordicstar22/08/2017
Parked near Fishery Farm and followed the trackbardolph19/06/2017
Presumably Alan Dawson had not climbed Longfield Hill when he wrote that The Cobbler is probably the most difficult mainland summit. I was just thinking what a nice walk it was - Dent fells above the cloud, view of Lakeland fells, some nice trees - and then I realized where the summit must be. Crawled through two possible gorse bushes and admit that I think the very highest point was probably just out of arm's reach without sawing through gorse and that's just being silly so I'm calling it a bag.Wycombe Wanderer12/11/2016
A specialist summit of frustration or challenge? Thrashed around in the long grass / trees encircling the small flooded quarry pit trying to work out high point without conviction. Finally Darren excelled himself by tunneling through the gorse, so if he could do it ... possible highpoint touched at arms length lying on stomach. 18th of 24 tumps on a 50km 14 hr walk / jog / (and now crawl) with DarrenChris Pearson16/07/2016
Up fp from WNW. Parked in lane 50m NE past the start of path.GordonAdshead18/07/2015
From Hutton Roof - parking OKjimbloomer23/04/2015
From ESE, not a great route. Visited a few spots: SE brink and NE brink of main water filled pit seemed highest to me, on Cumbria and Lancs sides of boundary wall respectively.RHW22/03/2015
Used bridleway at S end of Hutton Roof. Lanes then fields into/out of wood at NE corner. On other side of wall are old quarried pits well guarded by gorse and brambles. High points at SD 58175 78113 and SD 58148 78161, both in gorse. Latter my best bet, least arduous approach to this spot is from N.Aye Jimmy28/12/2014
Parked on the road beside the church in Hutton Roof then round via the narrow roads to use the footpath through cattle at pasture to explore the woodland and the debris associated with Longfield quarry.Dugswell219/08/2014
Stroll from middle of Hutton Roof. Top is a muddle of fenced-off flooded quarries, highpoint indeterminate....citygent16/08/2013
