Parked to SSW of Smithy Mire which did first. Good track in winter to top and back to car as bracken no problem this time of year.PeterD30/01/2023
Rough crossing from Smithy Mire and also getting down to road. Great viewstrimarc203/11/2022
6/16 Close link after Smithy Mire with a high wall in between. Good vantage point for my bad looking plan to next ascend Garner Bank head on across the fell road - it looked steep & rough with dead bracken and boulders and a new deer fenced plantation at the foot .. and now hot! Hmm. Came up with a much better plan - down the road and up the graded bridleway beyond - actually enjoyable and I got to trigger 100 baying hounds at as I jogged past their compound at Sword House kennels (well away from any neighbours!) Over 3 hours now into my 9 hour solo circuit of lower Eskdale tumps. Starting to see tourist cars now out 'for a drive' on this beautiful warm day.Chris Pearson26/03/2022

3/4 Parked just beyond bends on road down to Eskdale Green, walked up round the head of the Ghyll and strike over fell to Garner Bank, then on to Brantrake Crags. Down the lovely Bridleway to valley, use lanes to work round to footpath to West of Redfbrow Bank then over Redbrow Bank and Smithy Mire. Fantastic hot day, couldn't have done much more.nickywood101/06/2020

From car parking at about SD 164990, via the crossing of Whis Gill at SD 161994 using the ruined wall as a bridge - don't slip off the licheny stones here as the water is more than a metre deep!Isbjorn09/12/2018

Smithy Mire > Redbrow Bank from GR: SD 16396 98971ronaldo33328/10/2017
Dawn, clear and -4 overnight meant that the ground was very firm underfoot throughout. An unwaymarked but mapped public footpath from the ruins of Red Brow farm near the NT depot at Milkingsteads, climbs through the wood to emerge onto the open moor. Nice smaller old cairn overlooking the valley for better views.Karmakarl05/01/2017
