Solo. Street Parking at the junction of the B5281 and Ford Park Crescent (there’s a car park in Ford Park). Hoad Hill Monument, then Town Bank Hill, then Flan Hill. | ADT | 11/07/2021 |
There is room for a couple of cars alongside the wood to the west. There is a small gate giving concessionary access into the trees. If you bear left uphill after this gate, you can follow paths all the way up to the boundary wall. This needs negotiating as does a gate in the direct line to the summit, but neither are too difficult. A good place to continue on to Flan Hill afterwards. | moorsman | 14/05/2021 |
Via Hoad Monument | PeteF | 11/05/2019 |
A fine little hill indeed accessed by enclosed paths from Ulveston then opening up onto the sheepy hillside. Came here first before visiting the monument. | Father Ted | 17/04/2019 |
Over the Hoad then Town Bank Hill, down NE to Newlands where interesting info about the old Furnace that used to be there. Used field with narrow entrance from this lane to access The Alps and came all the way down Nort from there, all good, gates all opened. Used lanes to get back to Flan Hill and finish down The Ghyll into Ulverston. Nice two hour short bimble. | nickywood1 | 30/03/2019 |
Tight parking on road verge between Flan Hill and Town Bank Hill, Flan first, directly up on steep grass to cairn, then footpaths up woodland to Town Bank | Colin Crawford | 03/03/2019 |
With Jo, from Canal Foot. Along canal, then through Ford Park to Hoad Hill, before continuing to Town Bank Hill on a sunny, but cold, day. Good all round viewpoint, as is Hoad Hill. | amblerbob | 28/01/2019 |
Via footpath along SW edge of woods then route 1. Pleasant. | Wycombe Wanderer | 20/01/2019 |
Parked at end of the lane (SD 2899 7901). Good paths then short cropped pastoral land. On to the Barrow Monument. Everything in cloud and heavy drizzle, nice start to a day's bagging. | jonglew | 11/12/2018 |
Up from Chittery Lane. Met the warden and fierce dog going up and a nice couple going down. | Play2End | 02/10/2018 |
Ran over on Blue Urban orienteering course! | davechaffey | 01/08/2018 |
2nd tump of 12 today on a 33.6km circular from Ulverston, climbing Flan Hill then heading East to the road and into East Rake plantation, zigzagging my way up to cut across the 140m contour then to fence, following it SE then over to summit, exploring all possibilities. Descent NE then East to Newland, heading for the Alps.... | Dazingdale | 01/04/2018 |
Up from B road, more people visiting monument than top | Bramley | 23/06/2017 |
Finally a year later got to the actual summit after missing it last year because of the monument diverting my attention! Fell running up from Ulverston in Storm Doris - 3km up and back. Surprised the dog walkers by being out running on a day like today! Thanks DTL for a great holiday :D | Fionalevey | 23/02/2017 |

Up from end of Chittery Lane, jogged to col, visited lighthouse top then Bank Hill. FP's hard top follow, not signed, got off route and had to climb a few walls. | nordicstar | 30/07/2014 |
Park on B5281 where there are blue signs pointing up Chittery Ln to the Hoad where there's a memorial lighthouse to Sir John Barrow (nothing to do with Barrow-in-F). True summit is a great viewpoint. | jimbloomer | 11/01/2014 |
