Parked on verge past gate on right after Brow Foot, farmer quite happy so long as he could get through field gate. Walked through Bowderdale and up track towards West Fell, cut off right at about 450m and contoured on sheep-trods to coll. Up track to summit and back to coll. Pathless straight up onto West Fell then along track up to Hazelgill Knot. Back down to last coll and easily down north side of burn to sheepfold. Followed path south and crossed where streams meet to ascend steep path up Randygill's southwest ridge. On over Hooksey taking left fork in track to lead all way to start.Flatfield07/08/2022
Parked at Brow Foot, off A865. West Fell, Hazelgill Knott, The Calf, Bram Rigg Top, The Calf, Bush Howe, Simon's Seat and Langdale Knott.PGCE18/05/2022
Used the excellent Dales Bus S5 Thursday only service Kendal to Kirkby Stephen. Alighted at Gaisgill. Walked to Cotegill then up road cum track cum ATV route all the way to top. Very straightforward but good use of a bad day for weather. Trail hounds out on the fells supported by many very friendly farmerstrimarc207/10/2021
Our first climb 1 hour in to the Kong 4 hr score mountain marathon with L. 150m straight up the very steep west slope using hands as well at times discovering my quads had turned to jelly during my 3 month lay off caring for dad. I was so slow as L powered ahead. Not surprising really as tacking this tough mountain event at full tilt was back in at the deep end. Skirted summit this time to cp flag at stream head.Chris Pearson29/08/2021
From Archer Hill, after asking permission to park. Reasonable ATV track after stony track runs out.Isbjorn20/07/2021
From West Fell on Bowderdale- Hazelgill Knott- West Fell- Langdale Knott- Bowderdale walk. There were farmer ATV tracks most of the way, particularly on Langdale Knott. We returned to the col and could more or less contour from there, rising a little to avoid boggy ground, to the Dales High way to walk down the N ridge of West Fell to Bowderdale.pwheeler13/06/2021
Parked off the A685 at Brow Foot (NY 68524 04998). Took the lane to Bowderdale, then track up West Fell, diverting at the 400m contour SW and up to the summit of Langdale Knott. Then to its col, and a steep descent down a scree gully into Langdale. Then took the NNW ridge, very steep initially, up to the summit of Simon's Seat. Returned mainly by outwards route, though I found a path out of Langdale which was much better going than the scree gully. Solo. 17.0km, with 780m of ascent.Man of Kernow130/05/2021
1/4 A good mid winter round from Gaisgill, getting tricky Howgill Hills, along to Longdale, up to Town Head and turn left into Cowbound Lane an old green track which spits you nicely out on the shoulder of Langdale Knott near Dickey's House (barn). From Langdale Knott summit knee killer down to Langdale beck then paddle over river (brr), up the shoulder left of Little Nevy Gill and curve right up to Simon's Seat. Continue south and then curve right contouring round to reach the Shoulder to climb Docker Knott (saves a steep down and up) and then drop and climb easily to Hand Lake. Down North ridge, cross Uldale beck and climb over should on good track which brings you all the way back down to Gaisgill. Took right hand track round the farms at th bottom to avoid being intrusive. Nice horseshoe 5 hours.nickywood122/12/2020
From West Fell. Descended NW and picked up the path to Archer Hill (missed the shorter route to Midfield) and walked back to Gaisgill, torrential rain setting in. Only met one person and spied a trio from afar the whole walk. 22km, 1200m ascent 4.5 hours.Wycombe Wanderer05/09/2020

From Bowderdale over West Fell, onto Hazelgill Knott, then back to West Fell before heading over to Langdale Knott. Vague paths to the east of Birkgill Moss meant we avoided climbing West Fell for a third time on the way back to Bowderdale!Fisky Boy17/09/2016
