A leap of faith from the tender onto the rocky shore of Gob Sgapanais was the only barrier to summiting this incredible island. Thankfully we all made it, most of us managing to remain largely dry in the process. The initial clamber up a rocky incline of about 45 degrees was easier than appeared from the sea. Then steep grass and the occasional boulder all the way to the top, which thankfully briefly cleared of mist once we all got there. The return leap from shore-to-ship was perhaps even more entertaining, especially for those of us already safely on-board, watching and filming the potential mis-steps of those yet to chance their arm with Neptune's capricious temperament. Top marks to Helen for tomb-stoning back into the tender and to Calum for going back up a steep rock face to help her get down from her solo'd descent .... perhaps a new route for the island?summitter08/09/2023
RHSoc visit with 15 others. Tricky landing but easy ascent from there in warm sunny weather, though breezy on top. Stunning views.govanah08/09/2023
RHSoC trip. Just superb !garbo110308/09/2023
Followed all others from landing spot to summit.lordtonult08/09/2023
As previous report with RH Soc. Surely a prize amongst ascents in the ever-changing hill fog and the views between. A lifetime special, spied closely but dispassionately by the soaring gannets on the summits who call this magnificent place home.jef08/09/2023

R RHSoc trip amazing Richard Tait08/09/2023
Attempted landing with 11 others from RHSoc St. Kilda Islands trip after 14 of us successfully summitted Soay earlier in the day. Unfortunately dislocated my wedding ring finger whilst transferring from the boat. Don't know if it was me stubbing finger that caused me to lose my footing or missing my footing that caused me to stub my finger. Thought it was my wedding ring had been pushed over my knuckle but after taking off glove saw finger at right angles. First response? Will this stop me doing the Marilyn? Soon worked out for myself it would. Most upsettingly it also stopped any ascents that day due to immediate evac. Sorry Guys and Gals but thanks for all off your support and sorting my gear. Brilliant to be part of a team that bonded so quickly from the start.mntainman12/09/2021
After successful landing scoping out the difficult rock scramble and bringing to fix ropes, retreat following a mishap dislocated finger. Landed but no further. Will be back, fingers crossed (no pun intended) great day regardless.N.Morters12/09/2021
Out on the Kilda Cruises / Sea Harris boats with a load of 'baggers' from the Relative Hills Society. No joy landing yesterday but today around 10 of us made landfall on the eastern side near Mullach an Tuamail and, thanks to Dave McGimpsey's route finding, made our way up onto the summit ridge north of the highest point via the steep grass slopes of Sunadal. Low cloud and mist obscured all views until the descent the way we came which now appeared almost vertical......well 60 degrees maybe. The narrow ridge to the highest point was fun! Thank goodness for microspikes and a lack of wind!!signyred23/09/2019
An excellent experience, great company. Well worth waiting for.PeterAH23/09/2019
the landing to the south was to large a swell today so went 100 m east of this, landed with jason, john, steven, up initial pitch and hop over a deep gully, then steep grass to the top, rest of the group landed east side but came back down south side with us.robertphillips18/09/2017
Beautiful weather and small swell. Advance party led by Jason landed on the S side first, then Andy and I went up the same way after others had landed on the east side. Beautiful dry gabbro pitch, then up slabs to step left over the gully (Jason had set up rope handrail). Walk across the superb slabs to climb an open grassy gully (vague path). Angle eases at cleits, then traverse short grass to the col below the summit. Steeper grass to the top, but still short and easy going. Eastern route is horribly steep grass, so everyone descended S side, with Jason lowering them down the pitch two at a time, clipping them into the previously fixed rope to ensure no swinging off the route. All were now used to passing the anchors, after Soay. Dry weather would please mother.Gill18/09/2017
With RHS group. Too rough for easy landing at S shore; some of party started steeper route nearby. Our group landed 13:00 on E shore; easy scramble up rocks then very steep grass to summit ridge and slightly tricky traverse to top. Great views in almost perfect weather esp to Stac Armin from col to 2nd summit. Descended green slopes, finally very steeply to S shore; traversed to belay point and abseiled off. Back on boat 16:30.dbb18/09/2017
Thanks Seumas for a perfect landing on a horizontal ledge on the east side. Fact - but for the two metre sea swell, there would have been no such landing. Thanks also to Jonathan W and Lee for encouraging me up the initial crags and then the steep grass, and to Jason and Robert for getting me safely to and down the south cliffs.Topographer5718/09/2017
Landed on W side; steep grassy slopes direct to top.jonglew18/09/2017
I enjoyed today and got a sun tan as wellGayFinder18/09/2017
Landed at NA15770 05288. Misty and steep slopes to ridge and summit. Thanks Rick.Martin R17/09/2015
With Rick, Jen and Martin. Approached along ridge from North. Two metre grassy gully up to Summit GR recorded as NA1536405349.richtea504017/09/2015
With Jenx, Martin R and Richard T. Still a plus 1.5m swell, so usual landing out. Circled island and stacs and into Eastern side, took landing to north of usual guano corner. Spikes landed us well. Mist from 100m upwards so climbed steep grass trending to left then right over small ridge to eventually gain ridge. Contoured off on East face southwards to reach shallow gully leading up under final top. Back same way, microspikes great on the steep grass. Used a belay to drop down to shore line, swell now +2.5 m! All pretty much crashed into tender getting off but recovered ok and dry.nordicstar17/09/2015

Calm landing then up a rocky ramp to eventually gain the steep grassy slopes then an uneventful trip to the summit.Dugswell219/09/2014
With a large Marhofn gang. The rocky ramp provided an elegant route up onto the grass.Chris Peart19/09/2014

Winter trip. landed E side at about NA 15814 05320. Easy ascent in dry conditions but slippery in winter, we used a rope for descent. 2 day trip in sub-optimal conditions. Stacs Lee and Armin both very slimy, too much swell to land. Report and photo links: https://mega.nz/file/poImTbiA#oFdG1_6F4v1cTA4KjsqEx8heqcVcRqt4KTHUHTxQJVcRHW23/11/2013
after north and west circuit of Boreray in the boat to take a close look at the stacs, we landed somewhat precariously on the steep eastern side. very grateful for loan of microspikes by Rob Woodall. Fearsomely steep grass and highly airy summit ridge that had me on my hands and knees for comfort at one stage in a way that I'd never have needed 25 years back with lower weight and steadier legs. What a spectacular bag and looking down in the sunshine in Stac an Armin and Stac Lee. What a treat.vegibagger23/11/2013
Landed but conditions not suitable for ascent with no lead climberschriswatson28/09/2013
With the Marhofn group organised by Brent. Brilliant weather. Up from SW after slimy slab after landing. Terraced short grass otherwise but that steep that an ice-axe wouldn't go amiss.Eddie13/09/2009
Superb, with Ian Teasdale, Mclellans, ColinC, RJW, AlanH, GeorgeM - see separate report. No bird issues but need NTS permission for boatman to land you RHW12/04/2009
