Talkin Fell afternoon walk: Road at 567570- Kelky Fell- Simmerson Hill- Whinney Hill- 567570. Stile E of trig point on Kelky Hill led to col. The path from the col turns along the top of the escarpment on the W and SW of the hill, a lovely section. Sensible walkers would continue but baggers must bag so at the top of this, about 20 m below the HP, I left it for the HP which has a cairn but no paths, possibly some trods so a short struggle in the thick heathy vegetation.pwheeler05/09/2022
With a lack of options I walked with nervous bravery through the cattle blocking the track on the descent - red cag on and all. One of the minor perils of 'mountaineering' in England. More perilous by far would have been working in the extensive 18th & 19th C quarries at Forest Head. Limestone (for lime) then shale (for brick making). 4 well preserved 9m high lime kilns still exist where crushed limestone pieces and coal would have been kept alight for a week at 900 degrees + (and with care topped up from above as it burnt down) with the lime (for mortar/ cement) falling through to be bottom arch. Railways were built up to here to move the rock, coal and lime -the fp follows one track bed to Geltside CP.Chris Pearson15/12/2021

Ascended from Talkin Fell. There is a path for most of the way, helped by the movement of cattle on the hill.JohnW25/05/2021

2/3 Talkin Fell, Simmerson Hill and Whinny Fell, all easily linked from the car park at Talkin Head. Good paths between the first two, then down to cross road to Whinny Fell using driveway to farmhouse and cutting off left before house gate. Easy pleasant walking.nickywood113/08/2020

A nice route from the car park at Talkin Head, at the end of the public road. A fine track with great views leads towards Talkin Fell, climbed via a derelict track, then over the wall junction (no cap stones), and up to the huge cairns and trig. Then to Simmerson Hill, first on a good path to within a few hundred metres of the top, then rough stuff to the cairn (a stone seat). Down on rough stuff (good path by the fence, and I missed it), to the track, then a path along the fence to Cold Fell, a soggy, uninspiring struggle, but good views. Back to the track, and back to Talkin Head on the lovely bridleway.Gill03/08/2017

From Talkin Fell, five inches or more of rain in previous few days had left the lower parts distinctly soggy. Cairn/seat in heather on top.Aye Jimmy12/11/2015
Walked in from Jockey Shield to Gairs and then over Simmerson Hill and Talkin Fell before dropping back to The Greens and followed the track back out.3 kinnears04/10/2015
Parked in the entrance to the old quarry. Walk along the path bearing right around the old quarry workings. When you come to a fieldgate after a further quarter of a mile a good path bears off to the left leading to the top of the hill. The last 100m are across trackless heather.moorsman01/10/2015
Parked on minor road to the north near a gate and followed track and paths to ridge line below summit, and then a bit of heather to the summit. Then retraced steps back to visit Talkin Fell. Warning signs for suckler cows on this access land, but fortunately the cattle were further south; especially after speaking to a local later who had experienced problems with aggressive cattle here!Fisky Boy06/09/2015

Walked Simmerson Hill, Kelky Fell [Talkin Fell] and Whinny Fell from roadside at 575,571. Simmerson Fell has a big cairn, fashioned as a seat. A really nice hill, good track most of way and great views all round.Crib Goch19/03/2014
