Ascended from the cattle grid and then found the same route to the trig as DanTrig. | JohnW | 06/03/2022 |
As others from cattle grid to east. The on to Ravenstonedale to catch Western Dales bus back to Kendal | trimarc2 | 09/12/2021 |
As Dan Trig, an accurate description. There is still the non-barbed wire exit but the way between the fence and the wall was choked with thistles and nettles, glad I had overtrousers with me. | pwheeler | 17/06/2021 |
Easy ascent from cattle grid on road south in the lovely morning light. As others have said the trig/summit is on opposite side of wall. To get to there there is a tumbled down bit of wall just before trig easily crossable. Just behind it is a new barbed wire fence but the last part towards the trig has had barbed wire removed as its open access. Great views on sunny morning of the Dales, Lakes and North Pennines. Afterwards drove to and bagged Penhill (Height of Hazely) and Harland Hill. | DanTrig | 19/05/2021 |
First Tump following 6 months of lockdown | GordonAdshead | 21/04/2021 |
Up and down from the SE track. Would have been saved clambering over a wall with an electric fence if you follow the northern side of the wall. Access Ground - Electric fence ?? | Eddie | 29/09/2020 |
3/3 Birthday walk. Used Pennine Bridleway to get up to Little Fell, then lovely walk along the ridge with views to Mallerstang, over the minor road and up to Birkett Common, then along this lane to get back to main road and up Ash Fell from the Cattle Grid. Go up LHS of the wall and cross it about 100 metres from the trig point, easy throughs in the wall there. Even I did it. Then back over open access land to car. | nickywood1 | 03/09/2020 |

Lots roadside parking at end of wall by cattle grid and old quarry on A683. Easy walk up wall (thank you Moorsman for the tip on crossing). Short walk but took us quite a while as we got sidetracked fossil hunting in quarries on way down. | Hillsidenick | 15/11/2017 |
Solo. Fully intact trig on concrete plinth. | Dangerous Dave | 15/10/2017 |
Short walk up from the cattle grid with good views in the sunshine all round. Found a good place to cross the wall just beyond the trig point. | Walker Dan | 04/01/2017 |
From the cattle grid (A683). A very pleasant stroll with good views of the Howgills. Needs care to cross the unstable wall - best at a gap repaired with a gate. Maps seem to use the name Windy Hill for this particular high point. | summitsup | 18/08/2016 |

With Jo, from A683: to make a walk of it we continued along left side of wall to PRoW, returning over Ash Fell (top and trig), re- crossing wall at wall junction to the SE. Weather; lovely sunny, warm day with snow on ground and excellent views. | amblerbob | 16/01/2016 |
En-route to Green Bell in the Howgills (nice Galloway Cows) | briandavies | 11/10/2015 |
Followed tracks up from near cattle grid to the SE on A683, and crossed wall at junction with wall from the north before the summit. | Fisky Boy | 28/06/2015 |

Plentiful off road parking alongside the Kirkby Stephen road near its summit cattle grid. From here is it a twenty five minutes gentle return amble to the top. After the final wall on the right hind side cross through the wall at any convenient gap as there is no crossing alongside the top itself. | moorsman | 08/03/2014 |
Dart up from grid as described by others, easy bag for hill with great views of Howgills, Cross Fell group, High Seat and snow topped Lakes' in distance. Cross wall at small gate about 100m short of trig, good condition. Agree Tumulus is high point. | nordicstar | 01/03/2014 |
