From the free car park in Eyam where there are toilets too, a Eighteen mile walk to reach Five Ethel’s, Sir William hill, Shatton edge, Durham edge, Wardlow hay cop and Longstone moor.WAYNE ROWLETT07/04/2024
On own. From Bamford rail station up and along Shatton Lane until lane turns 90degree right, continue straight ahead onto access land alongside wall. Follow wall over top to a metal gate then along ATV track to summit. Continued to rejoin Shatton Lane and short deviation alongside wall running N/S to Bleak Knoll then Durham Edge summit and trig point. Able to use gate into field although barbed wire on gate unhelpful. Reverse route onto Shatton Lane and continued to Hope rail station. Although dry, strong blustery wind.Beeliner05/02/2024

Atrocious weather: gusty wind and heavy rain. High point difficult to make out by eye but I got somewhere near the 417 spot height and called it a day.Vulcan19/11/2023
From the village of Abney, a quick up and down on what turned out to be a nice day after a morning of rain. After a weekend away at Crewe Hall.Lazylizzie06/08/2023
From parking to E of Abney (near village sign). Pleasant sunny day.RobertP22/05/2023
I took a detour to bag this summit on an evening walk around Abney Moor, Shatton Moor and Eyam Moor. I don't think I've ever walked up to this high point before so nice to have a wander up here.meltdiceburg26/04/2023
On a lovely Good Friday morningt from parking at E of Abney village. The highest point I think is the grassy bit by the grouse buttclimbingkershaw07/04/2023
From Abney via the well-marked and constructed path to Offerton, L turn at signpost. Found tracks N of RoW to HP; Then on to Durham Edge, initially in a thundery hailstorm and returned via Abney Moor path; bench at 188786 for a quick cuppa as the snow turned more persistent. From Shatton. Up restricted byway to mast. Through unlocked gate on to access land. Grassy track to another gate, then along edge of heather to the summit. Descended E along good grassy track to RoW down to Offerton Hall, then down to river. KeithByTheC22/05/2022

From Abney. Durham Edge and Shatton Edge circular walkLongwojo28/01/2022
A rather badly-timed walk up from Bradwell via Robin Hood's Cross then following the byway coming up from the southwest. The nice weather of the morning was clouding over, but by the time we crested the ridge a thunder storm broke out over Castleton and rapidly headed our way. We made it to the summit and had a quick look at the heathery round barrow, but then plans to find Smelting Hill stone circle had to be abandoned as we made a very hasty descent off the moor as the thunder arrived overhead. We got soaked, but at least not fried! The sun came out again as we got to the bus stop at Great Hucklow, typically.thesweetcheat09/09/2021

Currently, Abney village be only accessed from E. due to landslide & collapsed road above Abney Clough. Parked at E. end of village by 'Abney' sign & start of RoW at SK 2011 7999 (space for 1 car) - Up RoW to 'crossroads' at 203803, turned left & NW along RoW to sharp LH bend - Left track & headed along ridge to the heather summit. Continued to Durham Edge. (S)gerrybowes26/11/2020

From end of lane (just motorable) to NE. Nice and quiet after Mam Tor.Wycombe Wanderer12/07/2020
Definitely not shat. A pleasant heathery plateau on top and great views down to valley. For a real challenge try reaching it via Dunge Brook in a heavily wooded gulleyAltheus08/06/2020
From Abney parking at start of path E of village. Summit is levelish grousemoor. My preferred high point was the well established grass on top of the curved stone shelter (grouse butt) set into the W side of the hill, otherwise choose your spot in the heather, SK 19332,80778 seemed next best to me. Great views on a clear, cool and sunny day.RichardM08/01/2019

Parked in Abney then up very narrow minor road to Robin Hood's Cross before heading NW on track then moorland to summit. Back to RHC then WSW on track to gate allowing access to moorland to aim for Abney Moor trig and Durham Edge Tump with no gliders flying today.Dugswell206/01/2018

4.8 mile walk from east side of Abney (space for one car near signpost), walked along road through Abney and onto Abney Moor, cut across grassy moors towards Durham Edge trig, climbed over drystone wall into private land (gate has barbed wire on but wall is easy to climb by gate) and followed trigbaggers path through gate into next field to summit, back across to access land, then followed good paths to Shatton Edge, bagged heathery summit back along paths to car. Saw two herds of deer on the moors between the two hills. Overcast weather, re-bagged Mam Tor and bagged Slitherstone Hill, Eldon Hill and Bradwell Moor earlier that day in showery weather.DanTrig27/04/2017
A splendid run from Abney (easy parking) with great views and on perfect grassy paths for much of the way. Headed up Shatton Edge from the highest point of the path, a wee bit rough and heathery. There's a good track below the edge on the way down to join the bridleway and then the BOAT, then onwards to Durham Edge trig and back over Abney Moor. A nice circular route.Gill04/02/2017
Parked at end of the lane from Abney. Riddled with potholes. Drive carefully. Good tracks and paths lead close to the heathery top. Fog so no idea of the surrounding country.Campbell Singer17/01/2017

1st of four hills starting from Bamford and finishing in Hathersage. Got off Bus 272 near the station, took fp's to Old Lees farm and got permission to use their drive to access minor road leading to Shatton lane veering off onto access land at SK198816 heading for grassy knoll and then altering bearing for Tumulus. I got a reading of 415 here but 417 in Heather near some ditches further west. Descended to track and thrn climbed alongside wall on Bleak knoll towards Durham EdgeDazingdale28/09/2015

Drove through Shatton, narrow lane to end of tarmac. Walked along lane to mast and gate onto open hillside. Up to moor then bumpy going across heather to summit where there's a nice grouse butt.Aye Jimmy20/06/2014
