An evening walk in the Forest of Bowland. I parked at the Cross of Greet and walking over to Burn Hill (summit/trig), then Hailshowers Fell and across to Bowland Knotts (trig/summit). A pleasant walk. /D | meltdiceburg | 06/07/2023 |
Along boggy ridge from Hailshowers Fell. Tough going. After top things improved and I had an easy walk NW to the road along a good track | trimarc2 | 24/02/2023 |
Parked on Petersbottom Lane, but could have driven to shooting hut where parking is better. Just under 4 km, fine but breezy. | malcorbett | 17/05/2022 |
From Forest of Merith. Snowing consistently for first half of route to Burn Moor, reasonable depth as got higher, then clearing and views on descent. | RobertP | 28/11/2021 |
Lovely walk from Low Bentham, past Gt Stone of Four stone and up onto Moor | ScaSey | 29/04/2021 |
1/5 Tump day in the Forest of Bowland. Burn Moor from SD 673 653. Same route as others along Petersbottom Lane to the shooting hut, then along path by the line of grouse butts to the fence. Finally along the fence to the trig at the summit. 5.5km with 150m ascent in just over an hour there and back. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 20/12/2020 |

Drove Petersbottom Lane to the shooting box. Easy walk from there on an atv track for 90% of the way. | jonglew | 26/11/2020 |
From Petersbottom. Up to shooting lodge and then plenty of paths and strips of burnt heather to ridge fence. Big views. | Campbell Singer | 25/07/2020 |
As moorsman. Easy parking on grass by Petersbottom Lane junction at SD 6733 6533 - ESE along track to wall corner & turned left up to shooters' bothy - About 20m before bothy, forked left & followed 4x4 track up a wide strip of grass to trig point. The track is faint at first, but becomes obvious at 6843 6513. (S) | gerrybowes | 23/06/2020 |
From Cross of Greet to Hailshowers Fell and Burn Moor and back to Cross of Greet. | Sprog | 07/06/2020 |
Parked on minor road near Great Stone of Fourstone - followed Yorkshire / Lancashire boundary fence up to summit passing Queen of the Faries Chair & Standard on Burn Moor After bagging the summit & trig carried on to the cairn by East Cat Stones (to look into Keasden Valley beyond) - Return via West Cat Stones - Davidson's Crag - Shooting Box - Petersbottom Lane and Slaidburn road to car. Excellent view of Calf Top /Gragareth/Whernside/ingleborough/Pen-y-Ghent and Fountains Fell to the north. | briandavies | 31/05/2020 |
Parked NW on side of road. Followed track up to shooting lodge then ATV track right up to the summit. | Adrian | 17/01/2020 |
Parked at The Cross of Greet, and followed the fence line up to Raven Castle, then followed quad tracks across to Burn Moor trig. Very boggy underfoot. Came down via the Fourstones Lodge shooting bothy. | ssstevesreeves | 09/12/2019 |
From Hailshowers Fell. Quite rough- going along boggy grassy ridge/ fenceline to Trig next to HP- area SE within contour just lower. Nice breezy sunny day. Returned via a more direct route to Bowland Knotts -easier despite up and down. | Denise | 24/08/2019 |
From Keasden Road cattle grid. Continued along ridge to Burn Moor and back.

Train along the delightful Little North Western route to Bentham for a walk via Fourstones and up via the grouse shooting lodge whereupon I met a local couple out walking - in many years they'd never met anyone walking up Burn Moor. Slightly nervously I carried on, to the south side of the fence and just past the summit trig, climbed over the fence to follow the syke down to West Borronhead (keep to the west of the fence), wonderful views of Ingleborough et al interrupted by a huge growth of ferns across the path. A walk via footpaths and road to Keasdon and back to Clapham station for the train home. | JOHNS | 07/07/2019 |
Trig pillar S5003 picked out with a hint of yellow. Phew that the ground 300m ESE is just a bit lower. | vegibagger | 08/12/2018 |
Walked from Kearsden, first of 3 along the border ridge. | IanHHill | 28/08/2018 |
From Hailshowers Fell. Bit boggier now, fell in a few holes. Paused at summit for a couple of minutes to admire Whernside and Ingleborough and give thanks. Returned to road at Bowland Knotts (which looks more impressive from this direction). 2.5 hours | Wycombe Wanderer | 11/08/2018 |
After Bowland Knotts and Hailshowers Fell. Concur with previous entry. A hard walk in the heather even in the dry. Cut the corner on the way back. More heather but saved half hour. Not a good idea in wet | Longwojo | 23/06/2018 |
Solo. Parked about 100 mtrs down Petersbottom Lane. Followed vehicle track to shooting box (the O.S. designation doesn't do it justice, it's a substantial dwelling). From there continued on an ATV track (not shown on O.S. map) that leads to the trig pt. Excellent views from the summit. A good one. 66 mins. | ADT | 05/04/2018 |
This, Hailshowers and Bowland Knotts, a hard walk | bardolph | 22/05/2017 |
Swampy watershed not shedding very well after a night of rain. Bowland Knotts- Hailshowers Hill- Burn Moor. The middle km of alternating swamp and trackless heather almost being worthy of a typical leg on the Karrimor (OMM). Descent N was actually nice - firm ground and then a grassy track with sunny views ahead of Ingleborough. 14 mile walk with L from Eldroth cottage. | Chris Pearson | 28/10/2016 |
As Aye Jimmy parking on rough grass verge at SD 67324 65339. An excellent route. | David Gradwell | 16/06/2016 |

With Jo, from Slaidburn Road. Echoing catman's thanks to moorsman and AJ for providing details for an easy stroll to the summit. Also visited possible alternative summit, east. Weather, cloudy, mild, good visibility. | amblerbob | 22/04/2016 |
After Bowland Knotts & Hailshowers Fell. Back same way. Bit of a bog trog. Hail & thunderstorm. | ngthack | 27/03/2016 |
Thanks to Moorsman and Aye Jimmy for quick, easy and, above all,dry route.Excellent views of Three Peaks on cool, clear day. | catman | 03/02/2016 |
Parking available at the junction with the road and Petersbottom Lane (alt 850 ft). Follow this to the end of the wall. If you turn left and head up to the shooting house you will pick up a track leading all the way to the summit. 3.11 easy miles Just over an hour. | moorsman | 23/10/2015 |
From Bowland Knotts road top to Clapham station after CMC reunion meet - showery day. | Smudge | 02/08/2015 |
From WNW, lane to Croasdale Grains farm. Branched off lane up past shooting hut then a very pleasant amble at gentle angle all the way to a trigpoint on top. Continued a few hundred metres to another bump of similar height with prominent tuft of reeds on skyline (actually in a pond) - just in case... | Aye Jimmy | 30/03/2014 |
Pleasant walk from Bentham- Slaidburn road, about 3 miles. Shooting track all the way to trig. Great views all round, especially 3 Peaks | citygent | 14/11/2013 |
