3 of 3 starting on mottram old road. Down to main road and up gallowsclough road followed byway all way to top. Could see the Manchester skyline in the distance. Lovely end of winter day for itThe-Z-Man19/02/2024

Bagged as part of the 2022 SP24 Challenge Hike organised by the South Pennine LDWAdazedemon19/02/2022
Enjoyed a wintry sunset from here at 4pm- great orange globe falling fast, nearby snowy moorland glowing softly. Pity about all the power cables criss -crossing the landscape. Trig in mud within snowy heather with small snowman on top. HP nearby.Denise 05/12/2020
Along the S ridge with very fine views all the way. Watch sunset from the summit. Trig pillar topped by snowman.RichardM05/12/2020
From Stalybridge Country Park. A nice hill despite the power linesAlan Moore16/06/2020
Sunset climb, temperature in low figures. Mini mountain with views all the way to the Welsh hills. A great day with many surprisingly fine hills. Realised that I've barely seen the Peak District from this angle before and very fine it looks too.Wycombe Wanderer13/05/2020
Up from Gallowsclough Road. Down via Higher Swineshaw Reservoir and Stalybridge Country Park. Good visibility. Very windy. Very wet underfoot.Peter_W_Mitchell 23/02/2020

Parked in small lay-by near the Waggon & Horses. Bagged its cut mark near door then across road to follow track upward to footpath sign and track heading back right. This was easily followed to trig and summit with sunny views today.Dugswell221/02/2019
From quarry on Hobson Moor Road. Plenty of parking. Through quarry and onto grouse moor. Good paths all the way. On flight path to Manchester airport. Great views of Manchester.Campbell Singer11/11/2018
From quarry on Hobson Moor Road.Pleasant enough stroll to top and did indeed feel more like a hill than many tumps nearby.Full extent of Manchester sprawl revealed. With Oscar.catman24/10/2018

From South after going up Harrop Edge. Past houses to BW and then PROW and up to trig and HP on good path. Good views of Manchester.PeterD06/10/2018
From Hobson Moor Road via ROW and concessionary path. Fine top.Bramley02/08/2018
Final hill of the morning, worth leaving until last. Access notes - see John. Nice to walk through climbing venue and have a look. Painted stone left on trig by someone, which read...'Smile, Be Happy, Love'. Summit yoga pose. Fantastic panoramic views of Northwest Peak District - Featherbed Moss, Bleaklow, Kinder, Cown Edge, Werneth Low etc. Worth a visit for a fell run. With John & Daisy (dog)Rotorslap11/03/2018
Parked at quarry on Hobson Moor Road. Followed fp North to a cracking and remote feeling summit. Mart as usual did yoga poses whilst I took pictures. Inspected the quarry where I've done most of the VS and HVS rock climbs but looked a bit damp today!John Eley11/03/2018
A repeat visit, I've been here many times but only finally got around to logging it. A great view and trig all in good order.meltdiceburg06/07/2017
Verge parking to SSE, SJ 99286 96923. Very straightforward route following ROWs and concessionary path. The planes flying to Manchester Airport seem enormous here.David Evans23/04/2017
From road to south. Followed prow to east, then a track up to rig from under the pilons. Followed about unmarked path West from trig to join bw running North to south. Noticed of a for being claimed, seems to bring you out at the quarry. Amazing viewsMrChris198003/04/2017
With Jo, from Brushes cp: b/w past Flaxfield and onto Shaw Moor for top and trig. (NB: part of the b/w past Flaxfield is temporarily closed to pedestrians due to flood damage, but can be negotiated with care). Returning over moor to NE and via the reservoirs. Weather; sunny, mild, good visibility.amblerbob07/12/2016
4th hill of 5 today on a route from Hattersley station to Stalybridge station via Idle Hill, Mottram Hill and Harrop Edge and on reaching the A6018, took the track leading upwards (Gallows lane)onto the access land and the moor. The lane makes an abrupt turn but I just bypassed this by climbing through the heather and then the footpath heads directly to the summit. Noticed that there were Herdwick sheep grazing on the slops. Great views of the Manchester skyline. Steep descent through the heather on a bearing to intersection of fences and took fp heading Sw to the estate.Dazingdale10/09/2016
from Green Lane, Hollingworth, walk around Mottram Hill-Harrop Edge (Mottram)-Hough Hill, Wild Bank Hill (Hollingworth Moor)joseph mitchell05/08/2016
Anticlockwise walk from Hobson Moor quarry with Val. Good viewssteveb200617/04/2016
Walked up from Stalybridge Country via the bridle path followed by a quite steep ascent. Back round the reservoirs.Good views and a dramatic bleak landscape.Lazylizzie07/02/2016
Easy parking on the main road to the south (alt 816ft) although it is also possible to park on the road at the start of the bridleway itself. A good path leads north alongside the base of the hill. At the point where it doubles back and climbs upwards the concessionary path is not evident. However, a short, easy climb shortcuts to the top track. 2.37 miles. About an hour.moorsman28/01/2016
Another grey day - Park at Brushes - Walkerwood Reservoir - Brushes Resevoir - thread between the Swineshaw Resevoirs then circle back and climb again up to Pack Saddle (views south - Bleaklow / Kinder /Coombs / Shining Tor / Shuttlingsloe / Kearsley Bank / The Cloud then Mow Cop - impressive even in the murk. Onward up to Hollingworthall Moor / Wild Bank Hill(& trig) - Manchester clammers below. Linger too long - too cold then down back via the resevoirs. Happy New Year.briandavies01/01/2016
A good track to walk up and jog down on a gloomy morning with a hint of wetness in the air. Many high voltage electricity pylons march across the moors here (including one powerline that comes through the disused Woodhead rail tunnel) coming together down at Staylebridge electricity substation which serves Manchester. On the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861, the Staylebridge cotton mills rapidly ran short of cotton. Thousands of operatives were laid off. with only five of the town's 39 factories employing people full-time. At one point three-quarters of Staylebridge workers were dependent on relief schemes. A thousand skilled men and women left the town, in what became known as 'The Panic'.Chris Pearson06/08/2015
One of many assents when out with dog. Nice views for little effort.PepandJen29/01/2015
From Hobson Moor Rd to SSE, parked where power lines cross road. Public f/p onto moor (large areas being reclaimed from heather). Trig on top and high point a few metres to N. Magnificent viewpoint.Aye Jimmy22/08/2014

Walked from Crowden along disused railway to Hadfield, walked through Hadfield and towards Hollingworth, up onto Wild Bank Hill, with its great view west towards civilisation and east towards the bleak moors, down to Arnfield, up onto the boggy edge to Millstone Rocks and Lads Leap and went down back to Crowden. 15.5 miles.DanTrig02/02/2013
Verge parking on Hobson Moor Road at SJ 99239 96874. 5 mile circular walk: Hollingworth Hall Moor (Wild Bank Hill) & Lees Hill.David Gradwell02/10/2011
Been up here.Flipperfeet03/05/2011
After walking up Cown Edge, and then coming down along what might be a motorway in the not-too-distant future. It's a typical Pennine, with pylons and good views of Manchester. Part of the DPS.DanHolme19/02/2007
From Arnfield Reservoir to Lees Hill then along the gentle ridge to the top. Very pleasant walk and a worthwhile objective on it's own.Jake99406/05/2006
