Logged Descriptions  (logged by 45 users)ByDate of Ascent
Parked in entrance to derelict reservoir, stepped over low wall & along track to compound - Rather than risk spending Christmas trapped inside, walked the perimeter - Good paths on NW & SW side; a fair bit of bramble & thick heather on NE & SE side.gerrybowes13/12/2023
Layby parking at entrance to nature reserve. Climbed in and out of summit compound beside gate.PGCE06/10/2023
Loop from parking. Easy to enter compound at rear side where a tree aids surmounting old railings.Nick Canute19/02/2023
The area is part of a nature reserve. The area to east is welcoming with nice heath and oak in abundance. The summit however is a little trickier within a fenced areacjo29/05/2022
We did not reach the full summit due to the iron spiked fence. We could of climbed in by the stone pillars but didn't want to risk getting back out.Kniverbee30/01/2022
Little oasis of nature; an indicator of what the White Peak would be like if there wasn't so much pasture.Wycombe Wanderer27/10/2021
As others. The brick gate post is, shall we say interesting. You need to be able to pull yourself up to get out.clivevilla26/05/2020
No well defined high point and these iron railing fences which have weathered to rusty needle sharp points are not my favorite, even a grey squirrel opted to traverse the spikes rather than dart along them. Returned over the brick column gate post, harder but objectively a little safer.RichardM11/11/2019
On RoW from Kingsley, off to the north. Natural high point seems to be on the west of the reservoir compound.Moorponder22/03/2019
Parked opposite Swineholes Wood reserve. Upon entering take immediate left over brick wall then N to summit. Metal fence surrounding disused reservoir requires some agility. Artificial HP over reservoir. With Tol and Felix.RoguePulsar31/08/2018
Parked opposite Swineholes Wood reserve.speedyclimber31/08/2018
4th top of 6 on a route from Middle Mayfield to Leek, climbing Weaver Hills, Cauldon Lowe and my 1st ever newly found tump of Hemmings Low on the West side of Caldon Low quarry then footpath to Moorend past Limestone view farm onto the minor road leading all the way to the access land adjacent the accessible Swineholes wood. I walked through the heather recording several contenders for high points to reach a stile that puts you just outside the notorious spiky fence, that can be climbed by aid of concrete post using tree to aid return trip. Walked around reservoir before exiting on track, hopping over fence into heather to record another potential natural high point. Onwards to Ferny Hill...Dazingdale17/02/2018
Inner compound secure but possible leg over (or rather, back out) from concrete post on SW side. Beyond my capabilities, so walked round the perimeter which does touch on the HP contour line on the SE sidecarole engel28/01/2018
Bagged Black Heath trig with Alex then walked along the road to bag Ipstones Edge which is now part of a nature reserve with the reservoir looking redundant.Dugswell203/11/2017

Same as previous loggers. Over small wall up track to spiky fence. A fine view.stig_nest17/04/2017
Parking at start of track to south (almost).Map shows that this track is over open access land but you have to negotiate a small wall top get onto it. Path leads past first mast and into an external compound via a fence. Summit protected by spiky fence which, years ago I might have attempted, but now I value my aging bits too much.moorsman20/01/2017

A bit of a nonentity although fine views to the east.Campbell Singer03/11/2016
Parked outside gates at SK04415 50383. Went NE up old service road for reservoir. With Julie. Very foggy.David Evans30/10/2016
Three Tump circuit from Cauldon Lowe village: Cauldon Low, Lamber Low, Ipstones Edge. Footpath from Winkhill then up rough heathery ground to summit area. Climbed over spiky reservoir fence at gate - very glad not to slip!davidpettit8409/10/2016
Along track and over nasty spiky fence. Old reservoir has hole blasted through 3' thick sides, being used as junk store. Inside compound seems barely higher than outside gates. Also took reading to W outside in the heather, FWIW. At SK 04471 50429 by thin tree stump - what do you reckon?Aye Jimmy15/03/2016
Walked all around the rusty spiky metal fenced summit enclosure. Could possibly have climbed over by gate or using a tree at one point but this could also have gone horribly wrong.Chris Pearson26/07/2015

Spiky gate easily circumvented on left. Up tarmacked track to what appears to be covered reservoir surrounded by a fearsome spiky fence.Walked round enclosure, but no way in. Grid ref for summit obtained at nearest point accessible to covered res., so called that an ascent.ngthack26/11/2014
