Decent parking to side of bridleway to east - Along bridleway for about 350m, over field gate & then up over pasture to loose bwf at SE 17607 06546 - Straddled bwf, stepped over collapsed wall & collapsed bwf, & then made way to summit knoll, keeping below skyline for much of the way. | gerrybowes | 06/01/2024 |
3/6. Parked at end of BW to south, followed it, then up and down where 2 fields reduce the amount of gorse to negotiate, still a difficult BWF to cross each way. | silveracorn_alan | 06/03/2023 |
Cheese Gate Nab from GR: SE 18247 06440. The route from the NE now has a Private No Public Right of Way sign on the gate hence a much longer/ harder walk in from the east. | ronaldo333 | 31/08/2020 |
Cheese Gate Nab from GR: SE 18247 06440 | Hippster | 31/08/2020 |
From Wood Royd Hill. Summited Wood Royd Hill at dusk, some rain forecast and nowhere obvious to erect a basha, we were saved by the bell and spent a comfortable night under substantial cover. Summited the very fine Cheese Gate Nab by 08:00 and descended it's mountainesque NW slopes to Meal Hill and very interesting and pleasant Jackson Bridge. Much cooler than of late, we had a morale-boosting hot snack in Holmfirth and retraced our steps to Slaithwaite. Another long walk exploring areas that under normal circumstances we wouldn't have considered, drinking in the tranquility. Kirklees compleat. | Wycombe Wanderer | 28/04/2020 |
3 of 7 on 36 mile bike ride from home. From Jackson bridge and following the Barnsley boundary way dropped the bike then up the steepest part of hill on os graph. More prickly bushes | The-Z-Man | 20/03/2020 |
Parked to the NE in dirt track at junction of roads at SE177070. Good advice for route from Neil Midgley. Very foggy, Kirklees completed. | David Evans | 26/10/2019 |
From NE along PROW then escarpment edge | cjo | 03/08/2019 |
A few knobly grassy and rocky lumps on the edge of the escarpment looking down NW on Holmfirth. | vegibagger | 06/01/2019 |
From a road junc to NE, on Dick Edge Lane. Bridleway W then picked up a farm track. | jonglew | 27/12/2017 |
Parked in Windmill Lane opposite bw. Followed this and then into flying club fields through two fields of pasture, over bwf and to summit. Evidence of old quarry in which is a shed. Excellent viewpoint. | Campbell Singer | 29/11/2017 |
training run from home - accessing actual summit area through the Flying Club gate then keeping right of wall around escarpment means no fence/gate/wall climbing and no sense of trespass. | Neil Midgley | 07/10/2017 |
from flying club gate to North, around edge of pasture to lumps and bumps at the summit. And back. | maknipe | 15/09/2017 |
As others through flying club gate in gathering darkness to HP and across pastures to HP. | PeterD | 04/09/2017 |
Started at bridleway to south rather than north and ended up circumnavigating the hill to reach the Flying Club gate . Not much of a runway but good views. | Mark Sims | 23/05/2017 |
3rd Hill of 7 today starting from Millhouse green and climbing Upper Whitely Edge and Wood Royd Hill before usung footpath that flanks the Hill. Just past a private property sign a gate gives access to the Hill So i Followed the overgrown tracks onto the ridge and from there to the top. Really great views. Descent via sheep paths then dropped steeply to gain footpath that(although flying club path Would Have been ok). This Hill commands the views from further away too. | Dazingdale | 24/08/2016 |
As Dugswell | Bramley | 13/07/2016 |
Parked in lane near junction of lanes ENE of hill. Dirt track heading W soon led to gate with sign for local Flying Club. Walked through fields to bag the pleasant summit viewpoint with Smudge. | Dugswell2 | 02/04/2016 |
With Dugswell. Despite plodding up the hill with our applications to join the Flying Club, no one was there to reject them! | Smudge | 02/04/2016 |
On round walk from Penistone, approach from S. | Moorponder | 11/12/2015 |
Parked 182064: Old overgrown track zig zags up from 173064 | GordonAdshead | 30/07/2014 |
From junction of lanes ENE of hill. Dirt track heading W soon led to gate with sign for local Flying Club - nothing happening today, fog & pollution! Across fields to summit area of knolls and grassy depressions. | Aye Jimmy | 03/04/2014 |
agree, Tinker's Tower does look higher but O/S 1:25k on street map
has this at 2m higher.
done with Wood Royd Hill & Upper Whiteley Edge | joseph mitchell | 04/03/2014 |
Not sure whether this is the highest point or not. Went up Tinkler's Tower to the north east as well as this, according to the OS has a spot height of 383, whilst CGN doesn't appear to have any official height marked. | moorsman | 27/01/2013 |
