From parking at Magpie Mine
Also well worth a visit | PeteF | 10/02/2024 |
On own. A dry, cold day with wind making temperatures sub zero. Parked outside entrance to Magpie Mine, along minor road to ROW to NW of summit. Up and along footpath. It seems that the fence has slightly changed the footpath location (compared to my OS map) meaning the stile to get over the fence is now much lower down the field. At this point I ended up walking around 3 edges of the field in order to hop over a small section of wooden fence to summit. Farmer muck spreading adjacent fields made walk rather smelly! Returned taking footpath via Magpie Mine. | Beeliner | 09/01/2024 |
15.31. Recumbent sleeping trig surg tumulus marginally higher to the west | vegibagger | 25/09/2023 |
Used ROW to N (verge parking just up the hill). After stone stile, up across fields over two boundaries (wooden rails and old gate) to summit. Also visited fallen trig. | PGCE | 07/09/2023 |
Parked on verge below, then up foot path. Across pasture to gate and on to summit tumulus in field. Also went to fallen trig in next field. First Ethel of the day on a rainy bank holiday weekend. | Lazylizzie | 30/04/2023 |
Solo out and back from verge parking at 1809468061. | Glenelg | 18/04/2023 |
Parked on the verge at 18246 67248, over a double gate and up a couple of pastures. Summit is in a field to the left behind the wood. There is something sad about a trig point lying on its side. | clivevilla | 22/02/2023 |
From Topley pike lay by on the A6, a nineteen and half mile walk to reach four Ethel’s Chelmorton Low, Sough top (Taddington moor), Bole hill and Fin Cop returning via the Monsal trail. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 12/02/2023 |
Parked on verge to NW, then up FP. Across Pasture to gate into summit field and HP. Also went to fallen trig in next field. | PeterD | 04/12/2022 |

From the NW | steveb2006 | 14/08/2022 |
From the West. Trig looks like it has been deliberately turned out of its original place by the farmer and is lying on its side. With GFE | Fionalevey | 25/06/2022 |
Quick assent from roadside parking. Fourth Ethel of the day. | Longwojo | 19/03/2022 |

Walked from Ashford via Sheldon and Magpie Mine. With Louise and Kathryn. | Chris Ellis | 01/12/2019 |
Nowhere near the summit on this occasion, but a lovely 4 mile loop walk down beautiful Lathkill Dale(SSSI) with L, John,Lexi and Bethan -and Nellie the dog. Water surging out of the limestone cave to flood the valley footpath -result of yesterday's downpour. Meanwhile nearby Whaley Bridge is evacuated as threatened by potential dam wall collapse due to this heavy rain. | Chris Pearson | 02/08/2019 |
Monday night run - better weather than some times - not a blizzard. | davechaffey | 18/03/2019 |
The second Bole Hill of the day. Straightforward from road to west. With R and B. | jenx | 14/02/2019 |
Verge parking near FP through gate. Pleasant stroll up the path with short deviation over corner of fence/wall at wooden fence then over a high wooden gate to high point on grassy tumulus. Across pasture to thectrig and better view. With Jenx and Bryher | nordicstar | 14/02/2019 |
Parked on road NW,followed footpath into trees and second field, cut across field and climbed dodgy wooden fence in corner, then over another gate accessing the summit and through open gate to trig, snowing, lots of snow on ground. Earlier that day did a 11.3 mile walk around the nearly flooded Lathkill Dale, grey and cloudy all day. No views from summit because of mist. | DanTrig | 20/01/2018 |
Parked to the NW then used footpath to gain access to a wooden fence in the field corner and then a wooden gate allowed access to the tumulus. An open gate allowed access to the trig point. | Dugswell2 | 07/01/2018 |
On a walk to Ricklow Quarry, from Ashford. Some good views! | DanHolme | 09/09/2017 |
Parked on roadside verge to the north west. Took path to the small group of trees and climbed over wall stiles into field. At this point I left the footpath and headed up the hill. I climbed over two gates to last field before summit. Also visited the Trig Point. | Neil Haslewood | 14/07/2017 |
Parking: Good pull-in at SK 18084 68092 just to the North of the start of the ROW. Route: Follow ROW ESE to SK 18285 67904, then make a bee-line to summit over a handy wooden section of fence and small wooden gate. Also visited trig. | David Evans | 15/05/2017 |
Difficult parking to the NW at the start of the path. Left car half on road and half off as it was a very quiet road (alt 994ft). Path waymarked to small copse of trees then over BWF (easy) and direct line across the field. Trig is not the summit. 0.93 miles return. 25 minutes. 236 ft ascent | moorsman | 21/01/2017 |
via trig point | cjo | 07/01/2017 |
Stunning morning. Blue skies with temp inversion in the dales. Fp most of the way from north. Then over an easy fence and wooden gate. | Campbell Singer | 17/12/2016 |
From FP to N, a wooden fence in the field corner and then a wooden gate allowed access to the tumulus. An open gate allowed access to the trig point. Returned the same way. | Wheelsy | 15/02/2016 |
From road to NW using RoW then across couple of fields and fencing in walls to top and trig. | Mark Sims | 07/02/2016 |

I took the fp across the flanks and then upto the trig and then visited high point soith of the wood. | Dazingdale | 04/06/2015 |
One of several 'Bole Hills' in these parts. Grassy layby to NW, f/p onto hill, long grass and couple of obstacles onto summit field. Tumulus at NW end, trig c.200m to SE. Nothing higher found in wood. | Aye Jimmy | 30/09/2014 |
Combined with a walk along Lathkill Dale. | Jake994 | 07/05/2007 |
