From NE; choice of pull-ins on Greens Arms Road - NW up road to start of RoW, through plantation, over stile at 712168 & up to high point on ridge - WNW along mown track to within 20m of the summit GR. | gerrybowes | 17/11/2023 |
Parked at 69928 17137 and followed the path such as it is. | clivevilla | 12/09/2023 |
My local hill. There's a good path going NW from approx SD710167 to within a few meters of the top. A fainter dead-end path heads L to the spot height. The main path continues to the NW boundary of access land and drops steeply by the wall to meet a RoW at approx SD704171. It's a fantastic place to get some space and moorland views, especially if the trig at Cheetham Close is included. Expect to get wet feet most of the year though. | Jake994 | 22/07/2023 |
I had an evening walk from Belmont to bag this summit. A tussocky hill, not such good views today as it's a bit gloomy but no problem locating the summit. Now onto the trig. /D | meltdiceburg | 27/06/2023 |
A boggy walk from the Trig point. | summitter | 30/10/2022 |

The top half of the hill is covered with tussocks, but there is a r4easonable path across the top. Good parking in the lane just off the Blackburn Road. | JohnW | 28/04/2022 |
Billinge Hill, Turton Heights | keithouk | 17/04/2022 |
Up from A666 in a circuit. Progress on moor easy due to mown strip along the ridge line. Very pleasant | fasgadh | 07/11/2021 |

Up ROW from pull in on road to east . Extremely tussocky grass for last few hundred yards. | Mark Sims | 25/09/2018 |
Started from Greens Arms Rd and took the Witton Weavers Way where after a mile we took a right through a wooded area to the track which goes off right to the Trig Pillar on Cheetham Close, known as Druidical Circle. Then onto this Tump on Turton Heights which was hard going through tussocks grass. Then back down to the road and descended to the path along Entwistle Res back to the car | Wayne Mac | 14/09/2018 |
From road to NE. Nice nature reserve. Surprisingly quiet in this area and relatively unspoilt. | Wycombe Wanderer | 19/08/2018 |
Parked on minor road at Charter's Moss Plantation. Not a place I would recommend as the area is crowded with single middle-aged men, some parked up and others cruising up and down. A bit of a dodgy area? Place strewn with litter too. Followed footpath from NW to tussocky summit. Visited the trig point at Cheetham Close next (329m). With Danu, Coel & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 03/04/2018 |
Solo. From Batridge car park by Turton & Entwistle reservoir. | ADT | 06/03/2018 |
Plenty of parking on Green Arms Road. Frozen and raised footpath most of the way. Last 200 mts a bit tussocky but firm. Another hill with big views. | Campbell Singer | 26/02/2018 |
Parked in small layby at start of PF to NE, Green Arms Way. Soggy then tussocky walk to summit, but better along ridge to trig and stone circle. Good views to Winter Hill. | mart0797 | 30/01/2018 |
1st log of 6 hills today. Had originally planned to take a train from Darwen however engineering work meant that no trains till 15.00, fortunatley my Airbnb hosts are outdoor folk and as they dropped me off on the Greens Arms road they went for a run around Turton & Entwhistle reservoir. The footpath is difficult to determine in places, the ascent becomes rougher until it is a traverse across deceptive tussocks. Lovely views and nice texture with the snow in between the tussock mounds. Fairly flat top, explored summit area for about 7 mins before descending via Witton Weavers way although cannot say i saw any path of any sort! Descent over fence to intercept footpath heading to Three Lowes; veered off course a tad and got stuck in a quagmire with slowly sinking ankle enticing tussocks in swamp trying to claim me. Fortunatley I prevailed and was back onto road and Witton Weavers way to car park to arrive exactly as agreed by my Airbnb hosts who agreed to take me to the start of my main | Dazingdale | 26/11/2017 |
With Izzy and Rosie | Longwojo | 05/08/2017 |
As per David Gradwell. Luckily pretty dry today, short battle through tussocks to top. | Bramley | 03/06/2017 |
Parked in the free car park at the Turton and Entwhistle Reservoir, on Batridge Road. Climbed Turton Heights in the snow, then went along to the trig on Cheetham Close. With JT. | Sprog | 22/01/2017 |
20km 4 tops circuit with Darren from Belmont. As on Turton Moor plenty more ankle bending tussocks, hidden in long grass with watery slots between them. For added endurance value we persevered for another km of more tussocks beyond the summit to visit the trig following the non-existent mapped diamond line of Witton Weavers Way (which I think was teasingly hidden in the long grass parallel to our line and not as mapped). Being remembrance week it was worth reflecting on the sacrifice made by those who endured the bogs and hell of the trenches, and as the sun poignantly went down behind Winter Hill give thanks to those who gave their lives for our freedom, so that we can choose to do things such as this. | Chris Pearson | 05/11/2016 |
Large parking area at the road junction where the minor road meets the A666 (where the footpath skirting the north of the hill meets the main road) at an altitude of 908ft. Cross the main road and enter the open access via a stile. Path continues towards the hill base then around the north of the hill. Don't try a direct line (as I did) as the moor top is boggy and ankle bending tussocks. Head upwatds via the path. 1.47 miles return, 1 hour, 242 ft ascent. | moorsman | 21/10/2016 |
Enjoyable circular walk from Last Drop Village, including Jumbles Country Park and Druidical Circle Trig on mild calm afternoon.Hard work from path up to summit-grass very long and difficult to spot tussocks. With Oscar. | catman | 06/07/2016 |

From south via trig with frustrating missing FB S2802 which designates a very important anniversary to me. | vegibagger | 26/02/2016 |
From NW. Tussocky grass near top not too bad at this time of year. | RobertP | 25/10/2015 |
From wsw, layby. Easy grass then tussocks, not bad by South pennine or say Jura standards | RHW | 18/10/2015 |
With Jo, from Turton & Entwistle Reservoir: footpaths to Turton Heights and onto the Druidical Circle Trig and then circuit of reservoir. Weather; generally cloudy with sunny intervals, windy, mild, good visibility. | amblerbob | 30/05/2015 |
From Top O the brow: Last 300m quite hard in fading light | GordonAdshead | 11/10/2014 |
Easy parking on minor road NW of hill at Charter's Moss. Stile and open pasture to signpost at foot of hill. Went L here for short way then followed crest of hill from the NW: tussocky grass for about 500m made for hard going. Grass so deep and thick you couldn't see the gaps around the tussocks. For return first went SW to wall/fence then followed this NW, a lot easier. | Aye Jimmy | 13/07/2014 |
3 mile walk to bag summits and the trig on Turton Heights, bagged Winter Hill earlier that day. | DanTrig | 29/06/2014 |
Climbed up from lay-bye on A666 then walked on to bag the nearby trig point in hot wall to wall sunshine. | Dugswell2 | 06/07/2013 |
