From good parking on W. side of Burholme Bridge, RoW through farm & up Fielding Clough to ladder stile at 668488 - Turned left & picked up ATV track which ran up along E. side of wall to wall corner - Over wall which is topped with a bit of wire fencing & some rusty barbed wire & then NE across tussock & heather to high point. Back to ladder stile & up Kitcham Hill. | gerrybowes | 16/03/2024 |
Decent parking at Burholme Bridge SD65750. Kitcham, Mossthwaite, Fober and Mellor Knolls. Thwarted by an angry herd of cows last attempt of Mellor.. not this time thankfully. Plenty of deer spotted including at summit of Kitcham.
Failed Long Knotts due to 2 farmers on Quads on summit rounding sheep off the hill. Not important enough to interrupt there livelihood, esp with my dog in tow. | Alfa1M | 07/02/2024 |
From Burnholme Bridge. Not enjoyable, despite good weather. silveracorn log for route description; Denise and moorsman sum up what the hill is like very well. | pwheeler | 22/03/2023 |
5/6 Parked at Burnholme Bridge, walked past the farm and then up the clough to the ladder stile onto the access land. Followed the quad bike track alongside the wall (not obvious for first 50m). Crossed the wall at the junction, then over to the poorly defined summit of Mossthwaite Fell. Retraced route to the ladder stile, then crossed the wall below and up track on the east side of the wall to the hurdle near the top. Crossed to the west side and up to the summit cairn of Kitcham Hill in the open ground between the trees. NB walls are tricky to cross. 6.5km with 260m ascent in 2 hours. 1/4 Parked in car park at Dunsop Bridge, along the path by the river then branched off steeply up directly to summit (tussocks rough). One small wall ok to get over (round edge of first one). Down wall edge and up other side (ladder stile) to Kitcham Hill. Back down and over the moor on nice footpath and through parkland over bridges to arrive at Fober Knoll up through trees, down the road back towards Dunsop and veered off right up through wooden gate and along edge of long thin plantation to Boarsden Hill which was a nice late bag in sunshine. Cows were all very placid at the top but do have young so be cautious. Back along riverside path to Dunsop. 4 Hours a nice autumnal walk. | nickywood1 | 16/10/2021 |
From Burholme Bridge and farm, up Fielding Clough.
Pretty dry underfoot.
Continued on to Kitcham Hill. | Nick Caunt | 01/04/2021 |

From Kitcham Hill from the south due to walkers currently unwelcomea at Burholme Farm due to Covid 19 concerns. Generally easy ascent but the decent down the wooded valley due west was a bad choice. High bracken. Then over the distinctive grand footbridge and on to Dunsop Bridge along permissive path. Good choice, | Campbell Singer | 30/07/2020 |
from Burholme bridge up Fielding clough | colinfielding | 29/01/2020 |
From Burholme bridge, the tussocks were made easier by quad track close to wall. | cjo | 24/11/2019 |
Parked Dunsop Bridge for a round of 4 Tumps. S from Thorneyholm to strange bridge, then up east. The summit area of this one is hell on earth grass tussocks. Onward to Birkett Fell. | Minto | 23/11/2019 |
Round from Dunsop Bridge with Smudge 5 of 6 | SteveG | 23/11/2019 |
Dunsop Bridge circular with SG. Loop of Hodder Bank Fell following reasonable vehicle track parallel to wall with a rougher time seeking the HP to N of wall.

It looks as though the jolly boys had left their wood! | Smudge | 23/11/2019 |
Helpful quad track near wall to SSW. Dropped down to north from summit to get back to road. Useful gate in wall and down towards aqueduct. An interesting suspension footbridge! With Bryher. | jenx | 22/11/2019 |
Vague HP in moss and heather with very unpleasant approach over tussocky grass from Kitcham Hill to the S on very hot day. Keeping close to the wall was marginally better. | Denise | 25/08/2019 |
Kitcham Hill, Mossthwaite Fell, Fober Knoll from Dunsop Bridge. | RobertP | 21/10/2018 |
If you enjoy a long walk to an anonymous bump then this is your hill! I came via a tortuous crossing from Kilham Hill. Pathless, wet, tussocky and in the mist, viewless. The blessing was an easy descent by staying on the summit side of the wall and heading downwards through a gate in a direct line across easy terrain. Don't look for me here if you go here in the future..... | moorsman | 19/10/2018 |
Mossthwaite fell, Kitcham Fell over Hodder Bank Fell to Fober Knoll then Boarsden moor. 3 hour round | Longwojo | 27/05/2018 |
With Jo, circular walk from Dunsop Bridge: riverside paths to Burholme, then Fielding Clough and onto Kitcham Hill. We then went over Hodder Bank Fell to Mossthwaite Fell, (there is a gate/hurdle at SD 67257 49432 that avoids any wall climbing), before returning via Giddy Bridge and along track past Knowlmere Manor and Lower Thorneyholme. Weather; sunny at first, cloudy later , good all round visibility. | amblerbob | 29/10/2017 |

From Burholme Bridge and eventually up ATV track by side of wall(to find track walk 50 yards or so past stile, then turn back sharp left).Unpleasant summit with good views. With Oscar. | catman | 07/04/2017 |

Parked at Burholme bridge, through farm, followed path by stream to highest point, both summits via atv tracks | bardolph | 24/02/2017 |
With Birkett Fell from W | jimbloomer | 22/09/2016 |
Much easier going following ATV track alongside wall from col after rough Kitcham Hill. Descended SE through impressive trees of parkland which gave shelter during a shower then over swaying public footpath suspension bridge over the Hodder. 5th of 9 top circuit with Darren. | Chris Pearson | 24/07/2016 |
From Dunsop Bridge. Cp now £1.10 for 4 hrs. Alongside river & up from splendid footbridge/aqueduct. After summiting through nasty tussocks terrain, across to Kitcham Hill. | ngthack | 27/04/2016 |
From sw, Dunholme Br. Tussocky, best to keep to track following wall. Then to Kitcham. | RHW | 05/03/2016 |
Mossthwaite Fell, Long Knots, Fair Snape Fell, Parlick | keithouk | 06/12/2015 |
From Burholme bridge. Public footpath to col between Mossthwaite Fell and Kitcham Hill. Then follow wall to near the top, over wall to heather summit. | Alan Caine | 05/07/2015 |
Good carpark in Dunsop Bridge, only £1 for 4hrs! Crossed river via avenue of redwoods and bridge just E of carpark. Bank of river followed to footbridge (actually an aqueduct) then directly up hillside. Wall to cross at top and deep heathery tussocks make life awkward near summit. Continued to Kitcham. | Aye Jimmy | 19/08/2014 |
Mossthwaite Fell summit on moorland at SD 66961 49406, 244 metres and a P48 hill. This is the view towards Bracken Hill Wood. Hodder Bank Fell's name also appears on the map for a lower portion of this hill. Photo on Geograph. | Dugswell2 | 04/03/2013 |
