Tinto: the usual route from the north. Walkhighlands route | hummusg | 30/01/2022 |
Murky day. Northern path, return same way with 2 local lads, discussing UFC and Lanark pub recommendations. Fogbow and brocken spectre on summit, at times very intense. Other visible hills above cloud inversion were White Coomb, Broad Law and Culter groups. At dawn an entire flock of about a hundred sheep on the hillside were sleeping/resting in a long line single file.. from a distance it looked like a trench had been filled with white gravel. They had all dispersed by time I descended | Nick Canute | 14/01/2022 |
Path a little boggy but nothing a pair of walking boots can't cope with. One portaloo in the car park. Not icy. | RoslynClimbsHills | 30/12/2021 |
From Fallburn. Really biting E gale 8:30-10:30. Lovely views as usual. Not icy. | Thearlaichdubh | 25/12/2021 |
Solo walk very good path from the car park to the summit. | colinfielding | 22/11/2021 |
With Cat in glorious crisp conditions. Just under an hour to the top but that was me - Cat would have smashed 45 minutes! Enjoyed the views for twenty minutes then back with a bitter north wind but well worth the effort. | SS | 21/11/2021 |

Ascent from Wiston, down via Lochlyoch Hill. Mobbed at top, overwise nobody. | Iloveducks | 17/07/2021 |
Tinto hill from Wiston where there is little car parking. A pleasant route following the path northwards thro' the YMCA Centre then the zig-zags by Pap Craig. Returned the same way. Fine, dry, mild, calm & sunny. Just a thought that if we don't tread down the vegetation in the middle of the well built zig-zags & paths we will lose our best routes... Not only here but everywhere. | Vin | 21/06/2021 |
Main track from Car Park North, with Jane. | jef | 08/06/2021 |
From main car park at NS964374, along made tracks to summit and return | kdbennett | 24/05/2021 |

Walked along road from main car park to Howgate Mouth. Up to Lochlyloch and Tinto and down via main track. Approx 4 hours. Sadly, the tea shop was shut. | tsharp | 18/05/2021 |
I drove past Fallburn car park a couple of days before and was staggered at the vast overflow of cars from the car park. Ascent from Wiston avoided the crowds and I saw not a soul until the summit | Colin Crawford | 26/04/2021 |
Good path from the north. | robertphillips | 15/04/2021 |
From the car park at 964374, up wide, well-worn path to the impressive summit cairn & toposcope. On return, good view looking down on the well-preserved Iron Age hillfort. My final Donald. Headed across to Selkirkshire to Fastheugh Hill, my final Donald Dewey. (S) | gerrybowes | 02/10/2020 |
Parked in the car park near Fallburn to the north which on this occasion had a couple of porta loos, and followed the horde up the tourist route, continued on to Lochlyoch hill returned the same way all in three hours for just over seven miles. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 02/10/2020 |
Detour on the long drive down south. Fallburn car park full so drove round to Wiston. Slightly confusing and not very well waymarked series of tracks and paths through Wiston Lodge but no real difficulties. Many narrow paths through the short heather, grass and loose stones on the steep slopes. Emerged at the trig to quite large numbers of people. Didn't hang around long. | Owen B | 23/08/2020 |
From car park up the main track. | the pigguy | 11/08/2020 |
Took 2 hours from Dungavel Hill to reach Tinto summit at 18:41 via the steeper southerly route past Wallace's Seat and Pap Craig, though I did not see either.
So my estimate was nearly correct I thought it would only be an extra 2 hours to include Tinto. Trouble was that was to be back at van.
As campsite does not allow check-ins after 20:00 I had to get down pretty smartish and not bother with Lochlyoch Hill.
No chance got back to the van at 20:05, so ended up paying £15 just to park in Abington Service station. Should have wild camped at cattle grid. | mntainman | 31/07/2020 |
With Ben, Rory and Sally. Very busy with other people, got last space in the car park. | Victor | 02/07/2020 |
With Dad, Rory and Sally. | Ben | 02/07/2020 |

Climbed many times but tend to avoid “the tourist route” | DrumalbinView | 02/02/2020 |
A wet walk with Frances and RBS HWC. My car needed a jump start at the end of the walk. We ate in Biggar afterwards, little knowing it would be the last outing for many months. | langskill | 26/01/2020 |
From south | emily | 24/01/2020 |
From Fallburn. Not too muddy at bottom and snow on top. Sun didn't manager to penetrate the mist so no views from the top. | Thearlaichdubh | 25/12/2019 |

Steep! | KevPalmer | 10/05/2019 |
Fine, cold wind. Cafe good. Direct to summit with a regular pilgrimage of walkers. Descent over Scaut Hill and return to car park by very devious route as described in Terry Marsh book On Foot in Southern Scotland. Goes through “managed” land.
Any chance of a bit of way marking to get a sustainable path established and avoid much to ing and fro ing which always feels uncomfortable when one sees the damage caused to fences by “displaced” walkers?
Anyway a nice walk with Wack. | iredale | 04/05/2019 |
Saturday afternoon climb in training for bigger things. Nice weather. | Thomas McIlvaney | 04/05/2019 |

Our final day on the Scotland 2013 trip. We bagged Tinto by the easy route up from the north, where the runners set out from. 4.4 mile round trip, we used the same route up and down taking just over 2hrs at a gentle amble as still tired from walking on Arran for 10 days. | jonglew | 17/05/2013 |

Solo. From car park near Fallburn on well trodden path to summit of Tinto. Higher up there is a choice of two paths although this is not shown on OS 1:50,000 map. On the summit is a gigantic bronze-age cairn, 45m in diameter, and on top of this is a recently erected view indicator, not quite finished. There is a trig point to one side, not on the cairn, so the trip point is not at the highest point although it may well be on the highest natural point. | pwbellarby | 09/09/2012 |

This is my most recent ascent although I have been up it quite a number of times. Track from the north badly eroded, much better from south. Start from Wiston Lodge. A really beautiful hill and probably the finest viewpoint in Southern Scotland | KRae | 07/08/2005 |
Came up from Wiston. Good views and popular. Chased by cows on way down -scary. | robphys | 07/05/2005 |
Snow on ground, misty | Jim T | 26/02/2005 |
T was first climbed as a youth in 1950s and then repeated on this date with KHWC. My Donald Log gives the date of 13/10/2014 which is actually the third ascent. All three ascents were made from Wiston Lodge, where I was weekending on the first occasion, and returned there. On 21/12/2021,fourth visit, T was climbed solo from Fallburn N carpark; a very cold misty day with verglassed path approaching summit - fence on R and heather were used, the Dimple rocks were v slippy - camera frozen, small ice crystals on S wind, returned to car for lunch. Fifth visit,KHWC walk, v wet & windy inc. snow on 12/03/2022, from P at Fallburn. | jacobus | 05/02/2005 |

Stopped off on drive from Killin to Solihull to climb a hill long admired from M74 and S Upland hills. From Millrig, direct. Cloudy top and grey to the E but we made a round walk over Lochylock Hill and Howgate Mouth- views from this ridge- best to N. B road for 3/4 mile, but very little traffic. With brother, Pete. | pwheeler | 27/03/2004 |
Parked on the B7055 just outside Wiston Lodge. After the steepest bits were over a new path between two fences took us straight to the top. | garyhoney | 13/03/2004 |
