Meh. A lovely circular walk around the surrounding woods and canal made it worthwhile. Orca mistook the green vegetation of the Leeds-Liverpool canal for a verdant meadow and subsequently went head first without hesitation.Alfa1M24/09/2023
A very uninspiring corner of a car park, so included a walk around the nearby church and impressive graveyard.justin_j_evans08/05/2023
Not quite oxygen tanks left on Everest, but a hill top still in need of a damn good clean.summitter30/08/2022
Visited because we were close by, parked in car park and felt underwhelmed, got out, got back in, sighed about the amount of rubbish, and then realised it was Wigan rather than Lancashire so not really part of our target county. But nice windmill down the road from it and some beautiful daffodils around the area so all was good.nickywood116/04/2022
called in on way to Rivington and Winter HillJK12/02/2022
A walk in a pub car park.bolton19/11/2020
Far corner of pub car park.CreakingHiker12/11/2020
walked up through pub car park to top right corner. Car park was busy with people parked for junior school pick-up round the corner, so don’t recommend doing this at 3-3:30pm on a school day. KeithByTheC11/11/2020

I actually parked on this one and then went for a walk down to the canal and around Haigh Hall. Nice walks around there.Nick Caunt30/12/2019
Walked around the car park.Andrew Pearson14/10/2019
Parked on Nightingale Road in Blackrod and made the short walk to the summit. We then followed rights of way to Haigh, which made a pleasant walk. With JT.Sprog16/06/2019
3 of 6 on 32 mile bike ride including roscoe Lowe, blackrod, haigh, healey nab, hough hill and pike lowe. Not much to say it’s a pub car parkThe-Z-Man27/03/2019
Parked almost opposite the pub, crossed the road and into the car parkmoorsman08/03/2019

Bagged this most unremarkable urban tump with the Blackrod tump from BlackrodWayne Mac15/06/2018
Horrible litter strewn pub car park. If the car park is that horrible I would not want to drink or eat in it.clivevilla12/04/2018
Pub car park. Had a look over the wall (fence?) to the school grounds, could be higher but not definite.jonglew25/12/2017
1st of 7 tumps & 1 boundary today. Train to Manchester Oxford road, Train to Bolton then 575 bus to Aspull. Walked up Haigh road, turned right and I was on it. Explored corner of pub car park but banking half-way down is higher. Car sales back yard is lower but right at the back it is comparable, next to tree Stump, primary school ground looked as high. Continued to Blackrod. Wigan completed.Dazingdale25/11/2017
Uninspiring but at least the pub was open and the beer wasn't bad.IWC08/09/2017

Parked about a kilometer away to make a decent walk of itbardolph05/02/2017
corner of pub carpark. uninspiringHippo07/11/2016
So is it the back of the primary school, back of the pub bar park or back of the Haigh car sales car park??. Whatever, yet another unsatisfactory urban tump summit.vegibagger08/10/2016
The primary school playground seemed higher than the pub. School secretary kindly showed me the high point.Campbell Singer17/03/2016
Unspectacular urban bag. Convenient parkingmcbiydw218/02/2016
2nd car park summit of the evening after Blackrod.mart079716/02/2016
9pm visit. Pub looked very inviting, but didn't go in.Minto01/01/2016
Last of day. Parked in car park and walk a few yards.PeterD10/10/2015
Right in the corner, not much higher than the curveTor worth it10/10/2015
Pub car park summit - in corner behind a parked cherry picker. Haigh lies atop a rich coal seem - once mined. The Leeds - Liverpool canal skirts the slopes to the west having climbed up 23 locks from Wigan.Chris Pearson31/07/2015
Easy peasy!Play2End05/06/2015
Lots of cars in pub car park, but didn't have time to go in for a drink/catman19/05/2015
Almost a drive by.arranc17/05/2015
Long trek from one end of pub car park to NW corner. Pub not even open for a jar.ngthack01/02/2015
School's out for some reason.Martin R24/12/2014
On 1:10k map it appeared the adjacent school or house garden may be higher but on the ground the fence corner at edge of car park looks higher (maybe because it has been raised slightly), Short bag, long log!RHW05/09/2014
Top end of Balcarres pub car park; a grotty spot.Aye Jimmy28/07/2014
Highest point is in the back corner of a pub car park by recycling bins. Charming. Continued along the horrible fast road to Blackrod.Jake99406/03/2014
Revisit to get a picture of the summit in the back car park of the Balcarres Arms in Haigh. Also visited the nearby church to collect a bench mark and some more photos.Dugswell210/02/2014
I don't have a conscience regards how near I park to the summit of urban 'hills' so for this one we just parked on the pub car park (Balcarres Arms in Haigh) and walked to the top NW corner of the car park where it is scruffy and overgrown. At the fence corner in the undergrowth is as far as we could get to the centre of the 160m contour (SD 60645 09054). Sad to relate, we didn't even go in the pub for a gill.David Gradwell15/06/2013
