Advised at entrance it was a steep climb but plenty of benches to have a rest. None needed good views on a clear day. | PeterD | 17/10/2022 |
Whilst visiting and walking around the castle | Deego | 23/09/2022 |
Currently adults £10, concession £9 & parking £3. Up through the outer bailey & once inside the inner bailey a short walk across to the grassy mound in the SW corner. Good views across to N. Wales, Merseyside & the Pennines. | gerrybowes | 27/05/2022 |
I am an EH member so no fee involved. Great 360 views. | clivevilla | 13/07/2021 |
came here back in the mid 1970's while on a Boys Club camping expedition - but as I can't be sure of summit-ing I'll log today's visit | M3WDD | 13/07/2021 |
Walked as part of Sandstone Trail - Coppermine Lane, Bulkeley Hill, Beeston Castle, Peckforton Hills | Lancylass | 05/08/2020 |
Met Lindsey in the car park at 10. EH member so we got in free. Strolled up and found high point among the ruins. As others have said, very extensive views across the plain. A bright breezy day, fairly good visibility. Stayed 45 mins then drove to Llangollen. | Skip | 17/07/2020 |
Open 10am until 4pm or 5pm depending on season. £7.20 non-gift aid entrance. Worth an hour or two exploring. | moorsman | 06/03/2020 |
Easy ascent on English Heritag site. Good views. | sooztops | 14/10/2019 |

From car park. | David Gradwell | 23/02/2019 |
Parking is £3 unless you park on the grassy verge to the north of Castle Gate Farm and entry is about £7 unless you are an English Heritage member. Actually it's most spectacular when viewed from below as there's not much left but the views from the top are extensive. Very windy. Cut mark on LHS of Victorian entrance gate. | Denise | 13/01/2019 |
Parked on grass verge next to Castlegate Farm, resisted the inviting stone wall and paid the expensive £7:50 entrance fee (English Heritage). Gated entrance of upper castle is entered via a bridge offering nothing in sympathy with the site. High point is likely to be grass on the W side of the inner bailey but pointed rock on E side of entrance is very similar height - too windy to determine by Abney. Extensive views. | RichardM | 13/01/2019 |
First tump summit of September. Met Australian father and son in the summit ruins. Son working on Manhattan as a diplomat for Australia. | vegibagger | 08/09/2018 |
£6.40 OAP concession. | jonglew | 18/02/2018 |
First time I have paid for a summit - £6.40! | carole engel | 11/02/2018 |
7.2 mile walk from Gallantry Bank across the fields to Larkton Hills unmarked summit on heathland, then along the ridge to Raw Head trig and onto Bulkeley Hill searching for the top in the trees then back down to the car via Coppermine Lane. Drove to, Paid excessive price for and bagged Beeston Castle Hill afterwards. | DanTrig | 13/01/2018 |
With RHW.
Visited previously, but not sure of date or whether stood on high point.
Nearly got hooked on looking for benchmarks.
( Have since become completely addicted) | ngthack | 08/10/2017 |
Level grass W of entrance or outcrop to E, very similar heights. Here with Nigel Thackrah. My final Cheshire West Tump - first person to complete on something other than Mt Manisty, which we'd been on the previous day. | RHW | 08/10/2017 |
Visiting English Heritage & National Trust sites - hadn't realised this was a hill I could bag! | ey up me duck | 04/08/2017 |
Paid £3.00 to park but as a Historic Scot I got in for free. I enjoyed a good exploration and got to 10 metres away from the Beeston Buried Block. | Dugswell2 | 22/05/2017 |
With Jo, on a nice sunny, warm day with good all round views. | amblerbob | 26/04/2017 |
Dutifully paid the entrance fee. | David Evans | 07/01/2017 |
I like chip butties at the nearby pub yummity yum | BannerzBaggins | 08/08/2016 |
Paid carpark but actually didn't pay entry as i didn't realise you had to! A nice day out, great views. Actually managed to get lost on the way to the summit in the woods because we were being a bit thick and didn't realise how simple the route to the castle was. | tumpawumpa | 01/08/2016 |
Trip with my partner & her family plus dog en-route to Snowdonia, Beeston Castle being a convenient half-way stop. Free entry as part of Corporate membership. We explored the caves first and then climbed up through trees to a breach in the wall. Beautiful sunny weather. Summit is a grassy knoll within Castle walls. Great views over to Peckforton castle. Descent via woodland. Great place for chilling out. We completed the trip by indulging at the Sandstone cafe. | Dazingdale | 26/03/2016 |
Not our first visit here. | hcjohn | 07/02/2016 |
Entry per adult £7 (£6.30 plus £0.70 'donation') but parked down road to avoid additional carpark charge. Summit inside Inner Bailey accessed by modern bridge across deep rocky gorge. Fine place, didn't have time to give it the exploration it deserves. | Aye Jimmy | 10/01/2016 |
£9.10 for quick bag on my way back from Shropshire via football in Warrington. Impressive views though. | Bramley | 14/02/2015 |
Parked up the lane to avoid £3.10 in the CP, but paid to get into the castle, the wall looked tempting! Pleasant ascent inside and fabulous views from teh inner bailey. High point towards the west in grassy enclosure. | nordicstar | 26/10/2014 |
Done as part of a trail race from Duckington to Delamere also second visit after a trail run in May with Beth. | Chris920 | 27/09/2014 |

Short steep walk from car park. Fantastic all-round views from castle walls. Drop something in the well & wait for an eternity for the splash, very, very deep. | ianandbarbara | 27/05/2008 |
Stunner of a castle. Highly recommended in its own right, being a baggable hill is merely a bonus. | wheresthepath | 01/05/2004 |
