First outing for 2 months, post-Covid. From junc to NW, on to s4 South Top then Little Law & Roberton Law.agentmancuso11/12/2020
After 3½ hour drive from the Lake District I really did not fancy, or more to the point my lower back did not fancy the steeper routes up either Dungavel Hill and/or Tinto from Wiston. So I decided to drive round to the north of Dungavel Hill, finding the apparently famous cattle grid and just go up Dungavel. Pleased I did, the gentle(ish) pace and ascent up the grassy NW tongue loosened up my back nicely. So much so I was tempted to carry on and go up Tinto by descending down to Wiston and up the steep side I did not fancy earlier. Well it should only take a couple of hours. Shame to see the trig pillar on it's side, but judging by established grass growth around shows it has been over for some time.mntainman31/07/2020
From near junction at Low Gallowburn Plantation. Return via Wiston Mains. 6.5 miles. 1329 ft ascent.DaveGraham 11/06/2020
Parked by the legendary cattle grid.Pete R29/02/2020
An easy and pleasant walk from the famous cattle grid. Nice easy path across the bogs, a steep scamper on easy grass, then a good path over to the top and the dead trig point. Fine views of Tinto.Gill17/01/2020
With Dad. First hill with him in 5 years. Didn't know the Tinto Hill Race required pre-booking so we went up here instead, a hill I nearly climbed 3 years ago. Grassy plod. Didn't even break a sweat.iangpark02/11/2019
From cattle grid to SW, out and back. Dry but ceiling of thick cloud which just touched top of Tinto. En route Edinb to Kirkstone Pass (and Ldn). Met paraglider on descent. Rounsfell18/09/2019

From cattle grid to West, as others ignored no entry sign- didn't apply? as there were no cattle. Over to fence line then up- fine views as showers had just cleared. Went down to the gate at 928312 and walked back on road- drier, fewer moorland birds, no notice. My brother met the farmer at Newton- she seemed happy with his route up the ENE ridge and back down W of the shelterbelt that runs down to the road.pwheeler01/04/2017
