Good parking at start of farm track to ESE of summit. Up the track then over the barley stubble to woods. Really all quite level. Earthy mound with badger sets on field / forest boundary, but it is not the most convincing of high points. Better views E than you might expect. Also visited the 93m OS spot height but it feels lower. Gloomy grey and windy. | RichardM | 17/09/2023 |
good parking ESE at start of ROW. followed this then W then S along hedges to high point | grumpy | 28/01/2023 |
From junction to ESE. ROW, then across field of grass. Visited summit grid ref and various bumps within trees. | PGCE | 18/08/2022 |
From Little Cringley, did a pleasant round walk linking the two footpaths, via the high point and edge of field/woods. | Nick Canute | 26/03/2022 |
Parked at road junction, along BW then around field edges to HP which wasn’t with crop, back via the mast and reservoir. | PeterD | 26/08/2021 |
Parked at reservoir gates, along field edge to end of small wood. On my own. Sunny but cool. | alwaysinshorts | 28/02/2021 |
Large parking area at the T-junction just south of east. Follow the clear bridleway for half a mile until it turns north. There are several gaps in the hedge which allow direct access across the field to the summit. May not be possible this way if the field is under crops. | moorsman | 15/12/2020 |
5 mile walk round the public footpaths starting in strawberry avenue with Ryan and dale | The-Z-Man | 18/10/2020 |
For completors only, waste of time, less than 10 mins from reservoir. | Nicky C | 19/09/2020 |
From reservoir gates | Bramley | 10/08/2020 |
Final Notts hill... saving the best till last... NOT! Drove up to the resr gates from SK 7424 8002, then wandered across a stubble field - not very exciting. | jonglew | 11/02/2020 |
Drove up access road and parked just South of reservoir. Went to two potential high point: SE end of Grovewells plantation and South hedge of compound. | David Evans | 06/01/2020 |

Sunny. | Dugswell2 | 01/09/2018 |
Parked at Grove and walked up reservoir access road. Wandered into middle of field, which was overgrown with clover, but there wasn't an obvious high point. | Wheelsy | 15/09/2016 |
From reservoir gates, alongside compound to west-east strip of wood. Out south into ploughed field. Ended up on mud stilts. | ngthack | 06/03/2016 |
Drove up lane to compound gates. Walked along w edge and to hp in middle of huge open plan field. | Campbell Singer | 05/02/2016 |
Semi circular route from Retford station to Clarborough with Lexi my partner's Labradoodle. We headed East on a fp over bracken lane to Castle hill wood, taking track to compound then alongside it before taking a bearing over theoretical high point in field to edge of Grovewells plantation. Descent Ne to intersection of paths then East, N onto Caddow lane, over railway onto Rathole track then West onto Red Flats Lane into Clarborough, then bridle path to edge of estate, fp Nnw to Starting Gate Inn where after a drink we were offered a lift back to Retford station by a kind local rather than walk along the canal in the pouring rain. | Dazingdale | 28/11/2015 |
Drove up and parked at gates of Grove Service Res. Walked along S hedgeline into wood, round back of compound (raised banking in places), fought back into arable field, then along edge of wood. As others say high point could be here or south hedge of the compound. Took the easy way back along edge of arable field. | Aye Jimmy | 15/12/2014 |
My final Notts. hill. Part of circular walk from Welham Bridge (S.K.719818). From resr. compound used track past new wind turbine. Then left, on a vague tractor track, over field to Grovewells Plantation. A couple of possible spots for summit in field here, as well as compound area. Cloudy & windy. Good view of Cottam power station, otherwise limited. | Richard Gunn | 14/12/2014 |
1) field just S of E end of Grovewells Pltn; (2) S hedgeline of Grove Service Resr could be as high | RHW | 07/12/2014 |
