| Opportunist bag just before funeral at Pontrefract Crematorium which is less than quarter of a mile away. Wake at hotel with same name as hill. Have now bagged hills on way to a wedding and funeral in 2017, so hoping for a Christening invite before end of year for the full hatched, matched and despatched set. | 2nd hill of four today, 1st being Upton Beacon climbed from Moorthorpe station, then caught 30 bus into Pontefract, then walked up streets to Queen's Square and both ends of each cul-de-sac. Agree that highest point is furthest road at the end close to Green ivy covered fence. I climbed over this (by using Elder tree growing alongside it) and dropped down to fp becoming a track and followed this to the main road. Next hill: Red Hill. | Dazingdale | 21/01/2017 |

| Estate cul de sac on edge of Pontefract. The deep, sandy soil makes Pontefract one of the few British places in which liquorice can successfully be grown hence the famous Pontefract Cakes. The town is sometimes jokingly referred to as Ponte Carlo by its citizens, in reference to Monte Carlo. In 1648/49 the castle was laid under siege by Oliver Cromwell, who said it was ... one of the strongest inland garrisons in the kingdom. Three sieges by the Parliamentarians left the town impoverished and depopulated, so the inhabitants (Royalist sympathisers), fearing a fourth, petitioned Parliament for the castle to be slighted(demolished) which it was, as in their view, the castle was a magnet for trouble. | Chris Pearson | 13/08/2015 |

| Housing estate, Queens Road leads into Queens Square area (street signs in short supply) at far end of which are cul-de-sacs. Houses seem close together, feels rather claustrophobic, not a place to linger. High point taken as end of furthest cul-de-sac SE 44263 21142 at short path to house, bushes give some cover. | If life has no greater attractions that planning a visit to Kings Mead, then plan the visit carefully. Drive over the top, only leave your car, locked, if covered by CCTV. Centre of an estate with curtains flickering when a new car drives past. My response to the question as to why I was photographing their child should have been .... because the little bugger won't get out of my way.
