Queens Square, end of cul-de-sac, another one that doesn't seem right to do | matty1971b | 05/04/2023 |
Drove up to the end of the cul-de-sac & summit GR by 57 Queen's Square. Space to turn around. | gerrybowes | 08/05/2022 |
Stayed at hotel which is open to the public for drinks and meals so parking not a problem. Past all romms and buildings a small path leads op to the top of a small cliff behind the hotel to the rear of the house gardens. The land here is higher than the rear gardens. | mart0797 | 29/05/2021 |

Pleasant surprise was seeing the amazing old Victorian store on an otherwise nondescript stroll. | jedthehumanoid | 16/11/2018 |
2 of 4 today on 35 mile bike ride starting on ashdene drive in crofton. Red hill, kings mead, Upton beacon, Chevet park | The-Z-Man | 24/12/2017 |
Walked from Pontefract Monkhill Station via town centre and coffee in W'spoons. Then back to near Tanshelf sta to catch bus part way to Castleford to do Red Hill. Both can be done all way by car, but that seems pointless. | IanHHill | 21/11/2017 |
And to think that this time last week I was on the Applecross peninsula. Sterile estate of modern prefabs. | Campbell Singer | 02/11/2017 |
Opportunist bag just before funeral at Pontrefract Crematorium which is less than quarter of a mile away. Wake at hotel with same name as hill. Have now bagged hills on way to a wedding and funeral in 2017, so hoping for a Christening invite before end of year for the full hatched, matched and despatched set. Boring flat top by the way, but easy parking. | Hillsidenick | 04/10/2017 |
as for fasgadh | arranc | 27/03/2017 |
2nd hill of four today, 1st being Upton Beacon climbed from Moorthorpe station, then caught 30 bus into Pontefract, then walked up streets to Queen's Square and both ends of each cul-de-sac. Agree that highest point is furthest road at the end close to Green ivy covered fence. I climbed over this (by using Elder tree growing alongside it) and dropped down to fp becoming a track and followed this to the main road.
Next hill: Red Hill. | Dazingdale | 21/01/2017 |
Went to the end of both cul-de-sacs and the spot height to make this top marginally more exciting. | PeterD | 26/10/2016 |
Wandered along the cul-de-sac, no probs. | fasgadh | 21/05/2016 |
Good to have a fairly defined little ridge with trees on it at the back of the cul-de-sac on the housing estate. | vegibagger | 23/03/2016 |
Agree with Aye Jimmy, high point appears to be on the short path to the house at the very far end of the cul-de-sac next to the fence. | yorkie | 12/01/2016 |
Five Tumps today & only 50 metres of walking. | ngthack | 01/11/2015 |
Wakefield tump day under dark skies and sometimes drizzle.Mix of town and country.I really cannot find anything to say about this one. With Oscar. | catman | 29/10/2015 |

I think I will change my name to Driver Dave! Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 11/09/2015 |
HP accessible from end of hotel car park. Very rough ground n covered in brambles. Just past cul de sac is raised point next to garage but covered in roug undergrowth | Adrian | 30/08/2015 |
Estate cul de sac on edge of Pontefract. The deep, sandy soil makes Pontefract one of the few British places in which liquorice can successfully be grown hence the famous Pontefract Cakes. The town is sometimes jokingly referred to as Ponte Carlo by its citizens, in reference to Monte Carlo.

In 1648/49 the castle was laid under siege by Oliver Cromwell, who said it was ... one of the strongest inland garrisons in the kingdom. Three sieges by the Parliamentarians left the town impoverished and depopulated, so the inhabitants (Royalist sympathisers), fearing a fourth, petitioned Parliament for the castle to be slighted(demolished) which it was, as in their view, the castle was a magnet for trouble. | Chris Pearson | 13/08/2015 |
working in Pont. today so drove to this hill | joseph mitchell | 10/01/2015 |
Queens Square, end of cul-de-sac over looking hotel with Martin Richardson. | Dugswell2 | 23/11/2014 |
Impressed by the architectural features on the houses nearby. Planning and designing them must have taken much thought and enterprise. | Martin R | 23/11/2014 |
All quiet just before midnight. 86m OS spot height location at SE 44307 21177 seemed higher than end of cul de sac to me but I didn't GPS it. | RHW | 15/08/2014 |
Housing estate, Queens Road leads into Queens Square area (street signs in short supply) at far end of which are cul-de-sacs. Houses seem close together, feels rather claustrophobic, not a place to linger. High point taken as end of furthest cul-de-sac SE 44263 21142 at short path to house, bushes give some cover. Over the side are railings overlooking steep ground into fields near hotel. | Aye Jimmy | 02/08/2014 |
If life has no greater attractions that planning a visit to Kings Mead, then plan the visit carefully. Drive over the top, only leave your car, locked, if covered by CCTV. Centre of an estate with curtains flickering when a new car drives past. My response to the question as to why I was photographing their child should have been .... because the little bugger won't get out of my way. However, as this question was posed by someone with the neck size of Nelson's Column, I merely made a polite response and made a speedy exit. | moorsman | 08/03/2014 |
