High point likely in grass field surrounded by wooden fence with an electric wire surmounting. Hopped over. Likeliest HP seems to be near S field boundary looking down into a pit. Easy access from the end of Henshall Drive up a short inclined path. | Vulcan | 21/01/2024 |
On a 22 mile bike ride incl Pistern Hill. Flooding makes for some 'interesting' cycling forcing an evemtual retreat at one point. | steveb2006 | 11/12/2023 |
After a ride around the Brickworks | visionset | 29/07/2023 |
From Henshall Drive along path, gate into summit field, no horses in field today. New houses getting closer to top. Artificial Mound on building site to NW overtops summit. | PeterD | 28/07/2022 |
Older maps do not show the new housing estate, however, the path can be located starting opposite number 8 Henshall Drive, Chellaston (DE73 6WU). Follow this path until you are due east of the sunmmit where there is a gate into the summit field. Unsure as to whether the summit is around the old tree to the south or, more likely, in the field north of thefenceline | moorsman | 29/06/2022 |
Detour purely for completeness en route to Calke Abbey and gardens, a worthwhile destination | Nick Canute | 23/06/2022 |

Arrived in the area just in time for a heavy thunder/hail storm. When it ceased I found the way through new housing and on to the right of way. The summit is underwhelming but fortunately it is still green. | JohnW | 16/05/2021 |
Five minutes walk from Henshall Drive. No horses in the field at the moment! Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 10/04/2021 |
From opposite 8 Henshall Drive. No problems. | clivevilla | 02/12/2020 |
Approached from new estate to N, which stops short of the summit field. Couple of horses grazing in the top field, but I just stayed out of their way. 23m ascent. | RoguePulsar | 03/10/2020 |
From home on bike - can cycle up from S. Bit of a viewto W over new housing estate. | davechaffey | 01/10/2020 |
Path starts opposite 8 Henshall Drive. 8:30am, Sunday morning. Got caught by horsey woman, who got a bit stroppy about me going into her field (horses were fenced out of summit area). | PGCE | 09/08/2020 |
Cycle from Nottingham, up through the estate and keep on going. newly planted hedge marks path | Nicky C | 09/05/2020 |
Pleasant circular walk. Chellaston - Swarkestone, along the canal - past Glebe Farm to the nondescript summit. | callumorr | 25/11/2018 |
Parked on Woodgate drive by Redrow office. Found the start of the footpath via end of Woodlands Lane. | David Evans | 10/03/2018 |
BW to NW re-routed around new houses. Now continues east along tarmac to path @ SK 3847 2994, still allowing access to summit. Local dog walker told me there are two developments working their way up the hill. So eventually summit could be in someones garden, a school or a petrol station! | carole engel | 25/02/2018 |
Housing estate now extended. parked on Woodgate Drive near sub station. Easy enough to pick up path then across fence to summit. | Bramley | 24/02/2018 |
As described by recent logs: path routed around edge of new housing estate. | RobertP | 28/12/2017 |
As mentioned there is now a new housing development. Where the old meets the new housing there is a sub station. Alongside there is a path which you follow until you pick up the old path up the hill. Not sure if the new housing will mean the path gets diverted again. Follow the path until you reach a gate. Climb over gate to other side of field. Summit seems to be until a tree. | Neil Haslewood | 12/07/2017 |
I had not read the previous logs; so I followed the old bridleway which ended in a fence then checked out the new estate where the site foreman gave me directions. The key is to take the path next to the substation at the end of Woodgate Drive. | DC11main | 06/07/2017 |
Solo, up bridle-path from edge of Weston, pleasant enough | simon and co | 03/02/2017 |
Fp from nw has been removed due to new housing development. However, the fp a few ms east is still there and skirts the new development on its sat side. Summit under tree 90 ms to w of fp. With Jemma. | Campbell Singer | 12/11/2016 |
Along muddy diverted fp, into field and under tree. | Jemma Singer | 12/11/2016 |
Walk up track from housing estate to the nw | vegibagger | 06/04/2016 |
From the south, after a walk along the Trent and Mersey Canal. Quick hop over a wooden fence and the high point seemed to be as indicated by OS. | Wheelsy | 28/03/2016 |
Followed footpath beside new development and across open field. | Ramblingpaul | 19/02/2016 |
Arrived in darkness, hard to tell whether field or bridleway is the highest, visited both watched with interest by cows in neighbouring field from which I assume they must be able to see quite well in the dark. Last of the day before a beer or two in Derby. | RichardM | 09/02/2016 |
Afternoon tour of three almost-drive-ups: Breadsall Moor, No Man's Lane and Chellaston Hill. Followed bridleway up from Woodlands Lane, and crossed fence to reach high point. | davidpettit84 | 30/08/2015 |
From the estate as everybody else. | ngthack | 16/08/2015 |
Dog walking fields on edge of Chellaston which is skirted by the new A50 South Derby bypass which links to the M1.This has led to the A514 through the village becoming a main route to the industrial estates of Sinfin and a feeder into the city of Derby which has resulted in daily problems of congestion, pollution and noise. The village has also seen rapid growth in the last few years, with new estates being built around the old village centre. | Chris Pearson | 08/08/2015 |
Started from Island near Bonnie Prince Charlie pub, using a fp to reach Chellaston High road, i turned right and used Boyd Grove to meet a fp that goes SE and then heads directly to summit. Climbed into field high points were as indicated, centre of the field and near the edge of the pit. Good views over to the power stations in a westerly direction framed by Rosebay Willowherb. | Dazingdale | 03/07/2015 |
As others, RoW from estate after some faffing trying to find start of it. High point possibly in field or just over fence by tree on edge of pit. | Aye Jimmy | 05/02/2015 |
Parked on Ridgeway and followed public path across muddy fields, tough to tell exactly where the highest point was but I thought it was just off the fenced path in a field. | muzza2 | 21/01/2015 |
Passing by while geocaching, lots of traffic today. | timday | 06/06/2013 |
Emerging from old brick quarries (according to the map, though they got alabaster out here too), up the fields where local scallies were playing with motorbikes, and across the public footpath which crosses the highest point. Great views of the Trent Valley and a nice stroll down to the canal afterwards. | DanHolme | 27/05/2013 |
From NW, parking in estate. RoW passes close to summit. | RHW | 18/05/2013 |
Came past here in an evening race, back in the day. I lived in Derby at the time. | desperate dan | 30/06/1985 |
