Caldy Hill & Poll Hill from the Wirral Way. Yep, definitely well vegetated.TK01/01/2024
Walking round the Wirral coast and the lack of undergrowth led me to the hill for bush thrashing exercise and holly pricking.PhilipChaston19/11/2023
Yet another morning of frantic thrashing around bushes wondering what state my mental health is in to call this an enjoyable past time, whilst wondering what the owners of the mansion- which I read was recently up for circa £2.75 million- where doing with their free time.Alfa1M26/09/2023
A tour of Gorse Hill, Caldy Hill and Poll Hill (but not Prenton Hill) after Mount Manisty cruise. From SJ 2256 8555. Needed a fight to reach the high point at this time of year.summitsup01/09/2023
Parked at junction of King's Drive & Thorsway. Footpath from there, straight to the closest accessible point to the summit.justin_j_evans22/07/2023

Parked opposite a house called The Summit on Thorsway and followed PGCE's route, which was straightforward given he had trampled down the worst vegetation the day before.summitter25/11/2022
A whistlestop motorised tour of Wirral tumps with CW. Followed the trail worn into the vegetation by earlier visitors.Smudge25/11/2022
Parked at top of road, just into Thorsway. ROW into woods to junction with path going left. Turned Right, and pushed through holly into gully. At end, near fence, bend up left and find a baggers' path up rock step to highpoint.PGCE24/11/2022
With Jonathan Woods. High point in brambles next to fence. No view.chriswatson26/10/2022
Not as hard as others have suggested or I first thought. Park at the hairpin bend on King's Drive. Take the public footpath, pass between two walls, follow the path up ignoring left branches or rocks. You should come to a broad path in pine trees running roughly west to east with a footpath sign. Turn right (east) and walk along the path for 65m to a rock step down. Walk another 15m and on your left you should see a faint path heading towards some holly. It's an easy crawl under the holly (keep right) for a few metres and you will find yourself in a cutting. Head easily up and the summit is on your left and not in anyone's garden. Hope this helps. NB this spot is from my 8 figure GPS reading and I couldn't see anything higher but it doesn't tally with some other observations. I'm calling it a bag. Caldy is beautiful; early 18th Century sandstone buildings and woodland of pine and mixed deciduous - a total contrast to Heswall that is more like Middlesex than rural Cheshire.Wycombe Wanderer26/10/2022
Why does everyone keep parking at the bend? Continue UP the road and enter the wood / access land from the east. Circuitous route through trees to high point.Minto26/10/2022
The horror! Think I got it on the third thrash.. Walking up is lovely, it’s the summit knolls that are interesting. Orienteers will feel at home. Parked on hairpin on Mulholland sorry Kings Drive and strolled up. No footballers were harmed by my adcentfasgadh25/05/2022
Reached the high point pushing through holly and brambles. Good view of the swimming pool over the fence! Much more overgrown than the current photo suggests. Solo.Dangerous Dave23/04/2022
Easy parking to E. on Thorsway - Along RoW for about 100m to rusty metal post near wall corner - Left path & NE for about 30m, making way through a fair bit of holly & bramble to the high point. (S)gerrybowes01/03/2022

Second visit to Caldy Hill. On a morning stroll through the woodland while staying at WK. As previous ascent, uncertain of true HP. Warm autumn day, good views across the Dee to Flintshire.Skip16/10/2021

Good parking to the east where the open access reaches KIngs Drive. Through a gate into NT land. Summit in a house garden in the rear rockery. Easy to spot over fence though.moorsman05/03/2020
From West Kirby via Ashton Park. Summit not obvious. Spot height is in someone's back garden, so settled for getting up close to the wall, so my head was above this. KeithByTheC30/12/2019

Funny to think of all previous baggers (and those to come) who have forced themslves through the prickly holly and scratchy branches following the wall which fortuitously leads over the top. Even James Bond - well Daniel Craig - probably never tackled this last bit, when he no doubt roamed over Caldy Hill as a schoolboy whist attending the Grammar School on the NE shoulder of the hill. Despite this he is probably one of the few, alongside those who kick a ball for a living, who can afford one of the mansions in this desirable postcode. One active vendor has currently knocked off £500,000 from the asking price to quickly sell for a bargain £2 million. For a vegetation free walk, crossing the sands at low tide to nearby Hilbre Island is a popular outing but beware quicksand / mud as two horses had to be rescued by being dug out - one of the messier jobs for the local RNLIChris Pearson29/03/2019
5/7 Wirrumping with Nwormgage. Grid reference no help here, seemed to guide us to clearly lower spot near the road. Climbed around in the undergrowth taking in highest points we could see. Actually quite a nice bit of woodland with a nice view of the sea.tumpawumpa03/01/2019
Very swish village and could potentially have provided views of Hilbre Island, alas a bit overgrown and summit counterintuitive. God I love the Wirral. And Frodsham.nwormgage03/01/2019
Managed to reach the edge of the garden and see the highest point. My head was definitely above the highest point. I went back on 17/11/2020 and failed to get as far as I did on my earlier visit because of the holly and brambles.Alan Moore12/12/2018

Parked on dirt on the inside of the bend on Kings Drive then up on the path through the woods and then off path. The last bit looks daunting with thick holly and other prickly things but, if you ascend next to the wall and then cut across, it is not too bad.clivevilla30/11/2017
Good parking on bend of Kings Drive and up through pleasant woodland and then brambles to hit the wall.Campbell Singer26/11/2017

With Alex C. Parked at hairpin bend in road due S of the hill. Woodland tracks to HP. Hopped up onto the boundary wall, but grounds within didn't look any higher to that outwith.jonglew07/10/2017
Pleasant area, despite the bucketing rain. I thrashed my way up to a wall corner in the scrub, which seemed like the highest accessible point. I was glad of thick waterproofs as protection against the hollyColin Crawford07/10/2017

Parked further up road with junction with Thorsway and followed easily the FP back into woods. Explored via some thrashing all the possible highpoints. Another disappointing Wirral topnordicstar22/07/2017

This is the best of the 4 on Wirral. On a hot day it was like a Mediterranean pine forest.Mark Sims25/05/2017
2nd of the 4 Wirral hills today, this one on a route from Heswall to Hoylake station via Poll Hill, the Dungeon onto the Wirral way and then climbing up to the National Trust access land. Highest point does appear to be outside wall. I followed wall then at highest point you can access a lushly vegetated knoll and it appears higher than everything but went round and quicly checked out back garden spots too. Descent on fp through gorse &attractice scrub/woodland visiting the column and War memorial before finishing at Hoylake station.Dazingdale29/04/2017

West Kirkby to Heswall stations over Cadly, Thurstaston and Poll Hill. Pleasant walking through the woods and heathland. The views from Grange Hill are not to be missed - a tremendous view from the Lakes to Pendle and Snowdonia. Quite a treat for a little hill.Jake99402/12/2016

From the hairpin bend.jimbloomer11/03/2016
From parking spot on Kings Drive(hairpin bend). Difficult to tell exactly where high spot is with all the undergrowth though spot near rear wall of garden as good as any. O.S. map shows spot height just inside garden. Later in year with more bramble growth will make it very uncomfortable/difficult to get near. Nice woods though with sandstone outcrops.mart079727/01/2016
From sharp bend in Kings Drive, up through wood, then heavy undergrowth to wall of gardens. Highest spot is over wall in garden, banking about 5m from wall corner, looking onto large house or building with much glass. This building appears to lie behind the big house 'Mara'.Aye Jimmy20/01/2016
Walk round Caldy Hill, Thurstaton and the Wirral way. Top of the hill is very overgrown so not much to see, but great views of the Dee estuary from the hairpin bend just below. Worth it to see the houses of the mega rich in this area.Lazylizzie02/01/2016

third Wirral tump of the day...national Trust woodland next to Kings Drive/Thorway junction CH48+something a very exclusive postcode!! mega big rich houses area. Struggled through deep undergrowth to one point near back wall of the mansion called Mara. Another high point option had foot plaque on path commemorating Alfred Vaughan Paton 1861-1930.vegibagger20/07/2014

Deep brambly vegetation just outside walled garden; garden HP slightly lower. From S, parking e.g. on hairpin, path, follow wall.RHW16/12/2012

The lower summit (74m?) about 800m north has much better views. On King's Drive, the biggest of the big houses belongs to Rafa Benitez. The road also has Ian Rush, but no longer Steve McManaman.Pete R13/03/2010
