Solo traverse of The Awful Hand from Kirriereoch. Anti-clockwise loop from near the Kirriereoch Loch along the track to the edge of the forest then across the tussock-grass from hell, before ascending Benyellary-->Merrick->Kirriereoch Hill-->Tarfessock-->Shalloch on Minnoch and then back down to Kirriereoch via a squelchy forest track and then the forestry track. The flies, midges, mozzies and other insects were incessant due to the lack of wind, otherwise good conditions. Total time 7h 1min.mproudfoot28/08/2022

Parked at the lower Bruces Stane car park in glen Trool (didn't realise their was a higher one). Followed the Merrick Trail past the bothy (in a horrible state), then up through the trees onto Benyellary and round to the Merrick. Dropped down toward Loch Enoch and picked up bits of a path then the forestry track back to the bothy and out to the car. Warm all day, slightly overcast on Merrick, haze prevented far off views, Alisa Criag obly just visible, but still a cracking day.chillyman827/03/2022

From Bruce's Stone up Merrick usual route then down to Loch Enoch (difficult burn crossing) and up Mulwharchar through long clinging grass. Over to Dungeon Hill in similar wet conditions then to Craignairny. Descended to south shore of Loch Enoch where we found the remains of the Whitley bomber from 1940 then down 'path' to track and back via bothy to the car. Bruce's Stone-Craignaw- Dungeon Hill- Mullwharchar- Merrick- Bruce's Stone walk. I got this from 'Classic Walks'- inspirational books published by Diadem. A wonderful walk on a beautiful, cold day. Views from The Lake District to Arran to the Highlands, all crystal clear. Returned via Bennylarry. Also visited Merrick with my brother in 2002.pwheeler03/05/1987
With James Bellarby. From the car park at Glen Trool, which is near the monument to Robert the Bruce. Ascended path beside Buchan Burn to an old cottage at NX416821 (being renovated), thence by Benyellary to Merrick. Descended eastwards to follow Buchan Burn avoiding Benyellary. Fresh snow above 300m. High wind with hail and snow falling.pwbellarby02/05/1987

Estimated date of first ascent of a very large number! First climbed from Loch Trool via the standard path past Culsharg & on to Benyellary & Merrick. Climbed subsequently from every direction & with lots of other summits. Possibly the best is the ascent from Loch Trool of Buchan Hill & the Rig Of Loch Enoch & then up the E face returning down the standard route to Loch Trool or diverting SW over Bennan & Fell Of Eschoncan for a superlative view.NotReallyABagger01/08/1978
