All Donalds & Donald Tops in the Rhinns of Kells from Forrest Lodge. 19.5 milesGary Heath20/07/2023
From Forrest Lodge, along the Rhinns of Kells to summit. Clag on both summits but nice and sunny in between. Stiff breeze, cold. Great view over to Merrick when it cleared. Snow shower at top of Corserine, and some snow/ice lying. Rounsfell05/12/2022
Rhinns of Kells from Forrest LodgeHuwel26/08/2022
Solo anti-clockwise loop from Forest Lodge car park. 6am start to try and avoid the worst of the heat. Fairly straight forward walk through the forest and easy ascent up to Hennessey's Shelter - reached Corserine summit just before 2h elapsed time. Headed across to Millfire, and then on up to Milldown (50mins after leaving the corbett summit). Hit the summit of Meikle Millyea at 9:15am, took some more photos and had a wee break before heading down. The descent and walk out took around 1h 10min. Sunny skies and a light breeze on the tops - total time was around 4h 28mins.mproudfoot14/08/2022
Parked at Forest Lodge, with Kevin Woods. Headed up Professor Heilberg Road, then once out of the trees onto Meikle Millyea, north to Milldown, Millfire and up to Corseine (which only has a trig and small cairn on top). From here we decided to include Carlins Cairn, then contour around the NE slope of Corserine to then cross the NE shoulder and drop back into the forest to trundling along Robert Watson and Bridgit Natvig Roads. 7hrs all in breezy at times along the tops, but good views in every direction and my first glimpse into the Galloway Forest proper.chillyman815/07/2022
From Forrest Lodge for a round of Carlin's Cairn, Corserine, Millfire, Milldown, Meikle Millyea and Little Millyea.rhalstead18/04/2022
Standard route out and back from Forrest Lodge. Very straightforward, good grassy path all the way after the forestry. Cloud down on the summit plateau annoyingly.Owen B15/04/2022
From public car park near Forest Lodge, along with Carlin’s Cairn and the Rhinns of Kells. Thick hill fog all day, which did not rise despite the positive MWIS forecastRockdoctor29/08/2021
Simple out-and-back from Forrest Lodge.Gayle15/06/2021
Solo ascent of Corserine and then continued over Millfire, Milldown, Meikle Millyea. The car park was surprisingly empty (4 cars incl. me). I was passed by a walker from E Lothian on way up Corserine - he returned the same way. I met a runner/walker who was doing a big round of the local hills.langskill31/05/2021
Classic round of southern half of Rhinns of Kells. From Forrest lodge. Hardcore road now goes to edge of forest at start and finish with forest part of route marked with green arrows.sarahk02/05/2021
To the old lead mines from GWoS then quick bags of Knockower and Black Craig before hitting the main ridge of Coran of Portmark, the Bows, Meaul, Carlin's Cairn, and Corserine. We then doubled-back to just shy of Meaul, contouring round to the Meaul-Cairnsgarroch beallach before heading up to the latter summit. Back to the camper van via Craighit and Garryhorn. A grand day out - 7.5hrs.summitter01/05/2021
From Burnhead carpark, diverted up for Bennan Hill then back on to good forest road to due W of Loch Harrow. Didn't spot a track so followed fenceline up before cutting across SW to a high stile at NX 5186 8617 and up onto North Gairy Top, easy from there. On to Carlin's Cairn -> Torrs on a 19k round.jonglew21/04/2021
11.5 miles, steep ascent to start with, walked most of dat in rain. Walked in cloud, poor visibility, misssed path down of Corserine. Walked with ABRO-702321/10/2020
Headed north from Forest lodge car park to Corserine , with Gary & AdrianBrucethemoth10/10/2020
From Forrest Lodge. Wet and windy at summit so straight back down again.ColB07/10/2020
From Green Well. Knockower, then full ridge to Meikle Millyea, including Cairnsgarroch. A super ridge walk. Sunny and very clear so great views. Descent to Clenrie was pretty rough. With B and R.jenx26/09/2020
A circuit of the southern Rhinns of Kells from Forrest Lodge: Corserine, Carlin's Cairn, Corserine again, Millfire. Milldown, Meikle Millyea true summit and summit adjacent to trig, ending with a few minor slips on the wet grass and heather of the Meikle Lump descent. The views towards the Awful Hand range and the largely unspoiled adjacent hills and lochs make this a really outstanding walk.Nick Down119/09/2020
From Forrest Lodge by CX bike to edge of forrest. Polmaddy Gairy and onto Corserine. Lost windproof jacket on ascent not found on return via same route- bugger!John Lee15/09/2020
Great weather, with Chris, Corserine then the other three hills.Hutchie14/09/2020
From Forest Lodge. Corserine, Carlin's cairn, Corserine again, Nillfire, Milldown, Meikle millyea. Down over Meikle lump. Awful 3 foot high grass on descent. Both boots got a soaking.Longwojo06/09/2020
From Forest Lodge followed marked track to edge of Forest and then ascended obvious path to cairn and on to the Trig at the HP, with A&C. Some great views on clear day in all directions. On to Carlin’s Cairn and then back over Millfire, Milldown and Meikle Millyea.PeterD30/08/2020

With Sue from Forrest Lodge. Another warm day for Easter time. Wish brought bikes good track all the way to foot of hill 4 km. Well sign posted not much route finding.Frank23/04/2019
10th and final hill of a North to Mid-Rhinns ridge traverse, climbing Cullendoch, Craigencolon, Black Craig, Knockower, Coran of Portmark, Bow and its X Donald tops, Bow, Cairnsgarroch, Meaul and Carlin's Cairn, passing a stream of people half-way who had been loitering beside the Corserine Trig pillar. Was amazed at how broad Corserine is and how hot it was imagining how brutal the conditions could be on a different day. I was going to pull in Milldown and Millfire but decided I didnt have enough water to make this a realistic prospect. Descent via Craignine and Craignelder ridge and then forest tracks and x forest rides (now clear-fell) to eventually get back to Carsphairn.Dazingdale20/04/2019
With Rue, Davie, Graham, Sue and John - misty and windy.davechaffey02/03/2019
Forrest Estate Car Park at 553862 - Along waymarked track to W. edge of forest at 517873 - W. up obvious path that meets the NE ridge by Hennessey's Shelter - Gentle stroll to summit trig point. Continued to Millfire, Milldown & Meikle Millyea. (S)gerrybowes26/02/2019
Starting from Fred Olsen's Forest Estate. Very well kept. Signposted route through the later part of the forest. Track all the way. Good shelter near the top for a brew.iansm24/09/2018
From Forrest Lodge by tracks and excellent path to Corserine then out and back to Carlin's Cairn. Steady walk mainly on atv tracks over Millfire and Milldown to Meikle Millyea. Followed wall down but took path before turn (one interesting bit) down to new track at forest edge and back to car park.SS05/08/2018
Solo, parking at Forest Lodge and walking on track past Fore Bush, continuing to junction with path leading to stile and onto open hillside. The, at times, faint path was climbed to reach the shelter cairn at the meeting of NE ridge, Craigrine, with the summit plateau, going round the edge of N corrie to reach the trig. pillar. The walk continued N to go to Carlin's Cairn and return to Corserine TP at 12:25, then on to Millfire. The misty conditions evaporated as the sun burned through whilst on the NE ridge. The first visit to C was on 28/02/2004 in company with J and the Beatties. Fourth and fifth visits on KHWC walk 02/04/2022; route as second and third visits, again going out/in to Carlin's Cairn; great walking weather but returning direct to Fore Bush/Forest Lodge.jacobus23/05/2018
from Forrest Lodge emerging to N side of Folk Burn and onto Polmaddy Gairy (WH route). Sunny and very warm with hazy views. Solo, met 1 other walker. Followed ridge from Corserine to Meikle Millyea (SW top). Stunning views from latter into Loch Dee. Rough descent over Meikle Lump to forest. 6 hrs. Great paths for this part of the world. A classic day.niallp07/05/2018
Weather still holding up for us, so well worth taking the opportunity to plod up here for one last big hill, before starting to make tracks back home. Finally beginning to get familiar with the grander Galloway landscape.Alex C26/03/2018

From Forrest Lodge (9:00) followed road N of L Harrow to bend at 525874 then signed track/path to stile at edge of wood. Up path to plateau and thence to summit (11:05). Dry but cloud & strong cold SE wind; route-finding required on top. Back to car (12:45).dbb03/10/2016
Standard circular route. Now well marked past Loch Harrow. Descended Meikle Lump, which has a path parallel to the wall, this leads to a stile over the deer fence. Took forest roads and found the Prof Hans Heiberg Rd which leads directly back to the car park. weather started good but showers later. 6 hours.Jhimmy31/07/2016
Continuation of walk from Carlin's Cairn. Dropped south on track to bealach, then steeply up onto summit plateau and trig. Walk continued back and to Cairnsgarroch. Solo.Man of Kernow103/06/2016
From Forrest Lodge via North Geary. Felling made it hard to be certain of the correct route so I went up the firebreak from the W end of Loch Harrow, alongside fence. The way up from the forest road has been excavated so it's a loose scramble to start- HSE wouldn't approve! Gained usual route at the stile at GR 518861,which you really have to use to get over the barbed wire-topped deer fence. Lack of any trodden ways even here suggest this way up has been all but abandoned by walkers. Continued over tops, now on path/ landrover track to Meikle Millyea (qv). Also visited Corserine in 1987, long walk in via Backhill of Bush. In cloud from 2000 ft back then; warm and sunny today, out of the E. breeze. This big range is excellent, I really enjoy it and I'll try and visit Carlin's Cairn another time.pwheeler12/05/2016
From Forrest Lodge car park via Loch Harrow and North Gairy Top. Back via the Folk Burn. Good route, cloudy early clearing later, good views. Lynn, Peter, Gemma, Fran, Alex.nix_snilloc30/04/2016

A 7.05 am start to beat the weather (almost made it) all southern end of Corserine ridge to Carlin's Cairn, rain hit before last summit. Missed path into forest on way down so finished up using a fire break just to North of actual path line through forest - no problem.dickscroop09/06/2014

With two friends. Drove to Polharrow Bridge and up narrow road towards Forrest Lodge. We had permission to drive beyond the end of the public road to Fore Bush, where we left the car. We walked up the track through the forest. The track goes further than shown on my map. We ignored a sign sending walkers to the footbridge and stile to the right. We went up a fire break to North Gairy Top and hence to the summit of Corserine. There was recent snow above about 650m. It was very cold with a severe frost. We descended via Polmaddy Gairy.pwbellarby16/11/1998

Estimated first ascent of quite a few. Solo on a sunny late summer's day. From Forrest Lodge, almost immediately encountered an adder sunbathing on the track. SW past Burnhead along line of McAdam's Burn to the edge of the forest, then a slog over Meikle Lump on to Meikle Millyea. Along the Rhinns Of Kells over Milldown, Millfire and on to Corserine. Along E to North Gairy Top & then steeply down towards Loch Harrow, startling a large herd of deer as I rounded a craglet. Some bolted, some remained impassive chewing away! A firebreak led to the track just S of Loch Harrow & this in turn passed Fore Bush back to Forrest Lodge. One of my favourite walks which I've done several times since.NotReallyABagger01/09/1987
