Parked on edge of Castleton and followed easy paths/trails through ferns to summit, a few people about, drizzly and cold. Earlier that day we bagged Eston Nab and afterwards we drove around to and bagged Danby Beacon. | DanTrig | 23/10/2020 |
Wandered up before school pickup. Nice short stroll. | SlowOl | 10/09/2020 |
A fine hill. It goes to show that the highest are not the best. I did it after doing Siss Cross Hill which definitely isn't the best. Did it from the war memorial along the mast access track. | Alan Moore | 03/09/2020 |

Parked by houses on west of summit. Steep paths up to transmitter and on to summit. | Argentum66 | 24/10/2019 |
Parked in lay-by just E of boulder bearing the words ‘The Howe’. Walked a circuit of the track to the mast and to the bracken summit mound beyond (although the nearer mound 30 yards S of the mast looked equally high) and back via the war memorial. | Nick Down1 | 31/08/2019 |

Walked up from the north with Darren, then a few moments of reflection at the war memorial on the way down. The 35 mile Esk Valley railway runs close by linking the city of Middlesborough with the coastal town of Whitby via 18 rural stations. Used by tourists and locals / commuters and children going to school in Whitby. The Saturday evening train is sensibly 'dry'(no alcohol)-presmuably after drunken'incidents?' Oddly however the opposite is encouraged on the Friday night 'Music and Ale' train?. A Community Rail development group has formed to promote the use by locals and tourists of the railway. One of their strategies is to publish 'tranquility maps' (produced by Northumbria Uni for the whole of Britain) to publicise quiet areas best accessed by train not car. cpre.org.uk/tranquillity_map | Chris Pearson | 28/07/2016 |

Parked near war memorial cross, and boulder with 'The Howe' on it. Up lane 80m then track led off up to mast. No wading through bracken - much of it on top was extremely dead, nothing growing (poisoned?). | Aye Jimmy | 24/07/2014 |
Five minute walk up a track and then wading through the bracken | philos | 18/06/2014 |
From NE, parking just S of first house | RHW | 09/11/2013 |
Verge parking to the SW by the gate with numerous well mown paths to the summit. Quite a decent viewpoint. | moorsman | 07/09/2013 |
Small rough lay-by near war memorial at NZ 69424 07985. We took the public footpath south for a short way then a track on the right that leads to a chicken compound as it gently ascends the hillside. Passing a mobile phone mast, a good path through the dead bracken carries on south for c200 metres. The obvious highest point was off the path in the dead bracken about 20 metres east of the spot height at NZ 69343 07624. | David Gradwell | 27/10/2010 |
