There is a path, but I didn't find it until later. Ploughed through a lot of thick heather at the start.iansm23/09/2018
Northern tops of the range from Tunskeen bothyColin Crawford28/08/2018
On the way back from Kirriereoch to Loch Riecawr. Descent of east face is uncomfortable, steep at first then seriously uneven ground lower down.Topographer5719/05/2018
From Kirriereoch out on forest track then decent path up ridge of Tarfessock flanking it to gain Shalloch on Minnoch in thick mist. Took in trig then down and up to Tarfessock returning by west ridge to upward route. Sun broke through on descent - an hour earlier and I'd have carried on to Kirriereoch Hill.SS06/05/2018

5th hill of 9 today on my South Ayrshire completion walk cimbing Kirriemore, visiting Kirriereoch hill boundary, Kirriereoch, Tarfessock south top, Tarfessock and onto this plateaux spotting the cairn and rock but climbing every other rock to be sure doing the same next to the Trig to the West before proceeding to the North top.Dazingdale20/05/2017
Merrick then onto Shalloch on Minnoch, Lovely day, slight breeze taking the heat away. Made sure to bag the true summit.Jhimmy06/05/2017
Another perfect day for bagging Donalds. Number one with George W. Breezy, sunny, a bit cool.Play2End04/05/2017
Parked on forest road (not on map) at 376926 and climbed through longish grass following animal tracks over Shalloch to top of ridge. Then took path to summit at E of plateau (11:25). Clear; good views. Returned same route; finish 13:05dbb01/10/2016

Linear, from road 1km south of Stinchar Bridge, entire Awful Hand range, ending Bruce's Stone CP. Solo, tough walk, 11 miles, 3300ft ascent, 6 hours.Crib Goch27/07/2016
N-S traverse of ridge. Trig obviously not the top.Minto04/06/2016
From road to north, over the lower top. All remarkably dryColin Crawford02/06/2016
From Stinchar Bridge via Cornish Hill, Craigmasheenie and N ridge. Descent via broad NNE ridge. With Tess, 5 hrs, Sunshine all day and cool easterly breeze. Views to Arran, NI, IoM, snowy Cumbrian hills. Good mix of tortuous marsh, plateau, rocky ridge and paths (few)niallp10/04/2016
Mostly good path from Caerloch Dhu, with small cairn newly separated from summit rock and short grass all the way to trig point.alda18/08/2015
I parked up at the Bell Memorial car park and headed to the abandoned farm at Shalloch on Minnoch. It was very pleasant in light winds with a bit of cloud and some sun. Beyond the farm the path was terrible it was just boggy and tussocky. I couldn't cross the river so I followed the Shalloch burn round to the north of the trees and struck up the slopes to the summit. The higher I climbed the better the going became. I visited the trig and the summit cairn and got decent views shame about the wind farm. I will say no more other than they ruin many a good view with little reward. I continued easily to Tarfessock. I then followed the ridge west. I then followed the Knocklach burn back to the abandoned farm this stretch of the walk was also terrible the ground was horrid. From the farm it was an easy walk to the car.isabelle29/07/2015

The hottest day on record - 27C at the carpark at Kirriereoch. Good job it was a nice easy stroll, up the forest track, to the firebreak towards Tarfessock and contouring round to the Nick of Carclach on easy sheep trods. An easy stroll to the top and fantastic views. Back over Tarfessock.Gill01/07/2015
Circuit from summit of Newton Stewart road to Shalloch on Minnoch and Tarfessock, long trudge back to car.neimcv19/03/2015
Climbed from the north starting at Stinchar Bridge. A faint and fairly wet path goes from the roadside all the way to the summit via Cairnadloch, Caerloch Dhu and .689 Weather was awful so again just retraced my steps on return.bowlesy07/03/2015
Glorious day! From Kirriereoch Farm taking in Tarfessock and Kirriereoch Hill as well.bolton05/11/2014
Parked up on forest drive used track to Tunshea. Meet a ghillie who had taken a hind and was happy for me to head to Shalloch. Friendly chap. Pleasant walk. Company: Soloiandesbottes07/10/2014

2nd hill of day. Followed on South from the north top.derekblackburn24/09/2011
Approximate date - was a Saturday in May 2011. Very long approach via Merrick & Kirriereoch Hill, bypassing Tarfessock. Too long; nearly got benighted on the way home - I wouldn't recommend this. Summit is confusing - the trig point isn't the true summit which is a tiny cairn on a high area to the SE. Think I bagged it nevertheless.milngavie_kenny25/05/2011
Access via the damp north side of the Shallock Burn, onto Shallock then onward to S on M. Parked at Bells memorial car park.Dugswell216/04/2011
up from stinchar bridge in deep snow.robertphillips07/01/2011
Came up from Stinchar bridge over Cornish hill, up the flank of Caerloch Dhu then up to SOM. Down over Caerloch Dhu and Cairnadloch. All easy going except the part between Cornish hill and Caerloch Dhu which is boggy with tussocks. Would be less pleasant borderterrier05/06/2010
This second ascent was with KHWC from/to SoM farm, although the first was solo on 25/02/2004. A third ascent was from/to Caerloch Dhu on 05/09/2015, solo, whilst adding to my Donald Top climbed list.jacobus06/03/2010
