Curleywee, Lamachan Hill and Larg Hill from Glen Trool with John. Parked at Bruce's Stone car park, and headed E along the track, following it S then E again. Left the track to head directly up the N slopes of White Hill (horrible tussocky terrain). Terrain got better as we got up to the top, and headed across to Curleywee. Then across the Lamachan Hill via Scars of Milldown & Bennabrack. Decided to tack on Larg Hill as the winds weren't as fierce as expected and it didn't add much time on, and there was a faint path all the way between them. After Larg hill, returned to Lamachan and headed N and NE taking a twising route back down to the track, across more of the awful tussocky terrain (ankles beware). On reaching the track, we stopped to shed a layer, put the sticks away and grab a bite, before the 2.5mi back to the car. Total time 6:25min, with a stop at Bruce's stone.mproudfoot03/02/2024

Took the tent to Castle Douglas for the weekend, parked at Auchinleck on Saturday 18th June. Headed westerly around forestry tracks before gaining Garlick Hill (trig has no reference plague) then north to Larg Hill, east across Lamachan Hill, Curlywee and Millfore (trig had no ref plague either). Then turned south to Drigmorn and back in car, 09:45hrs all in, dry all day, but a cold strong wind. Tried these hills in March but fallen trees blocked my ascent up a fire break, hence the circular route around Garlick Hill.chillyman818/06/2022
Drove gravel forest road from Auchinleck to junction at NX 442758. Along forest road W, first firebreak R, then steady ascent onto SE ridge of Larg Hill, over the shoulder to Punch Well Brae (a superb vantage point with views to the coasts), then along the ridge to Larg Hill, Lamachan Hill, Scars of Milldown and a surprisingly straighforward ascent of impressive Curleywee, before visiting Brennan Hill and returning W along an old land rover track on the near side of a deer fence, which led back to the forest road. A memorable walk with grandstand views into the Awful Hand range.Nick Down129/05/2022
Circuit of hills S of Loch Trool from Loch Trool car park. Followed track to c 1km W of Loch Dee, and took rough ground to reach bealach to W of Curleywee. Traversed to Bennan, back to bealach and then on to Scars of Milldown, Lamachan Hill, Larg Hill, Craignaw, then some contouring round Lamachan Hill to climb Mulldonoch. Descended NNW down to path on S side of Loch Trool (very steep in lower section) and E to join ascent route. Showers, some short spells with sunshine.RobertP21/05/2022
From Bruce's Stone. Track east then south to Sheil Burn. The forestry up the burn has now been cleared. There is a very faint path up the east side as far as and slightly beyond the fence line through the tussocks. Not great but not as bad as feared. Kept to the east of the burn all the way. Cloud base 500m asl, it would have been very confusing without the OS map and compass on the phone especially on the featureless plateau.Owen B16/04/2022
From Bruce's Stone via Mulldonoch and on to Bennanbrack on a reasonable track.sclater18/03/2022
Parked car at Bruce's Stone and walked to Shiel Burn which was completely overgrown with pine trees. Ended up taking a long diversion through difficult terrain to get back to the burn up near the Nick of Lochans and then Cambrick Hill to Nick of the Brushy and up to Larg Hill where I felt that my first bag of the day was well deserved. Lamachan Hill and Curleywee were much easier. Down to White Hill and back to Cycleway 7 which was also hard work due to the terrain. Walk back along the track in the dark.tsharp11/01/2022

Adapted route on https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/galloway/lamachan-hill.shtml with alterations to first section to avoid path overgrown with bracken by walking East along Southern Upland way until a new track was found, then when path up right side of Caldons Burn disappeared, branched right up Mulmein Burn initially using convenient track through clearfell, then to col between Lamachan Hill and Larg Hill, then dogleg out to Punch Well Brae. Note very rough on ascent/descent 8hrs for the round.PeteF12/09/2021

Not part of today's plan... mission creep! Drove forest road, parked Black Laggan (NX 4683 7780). Track to White Laggan, up to White Hill -> Curleywee -> Scars of Milldown, then decided on a whim to pop across to here. Bennan Hill on the return for a 10.6km round.jonglew04/09/2021
From Glen Trool Bruce's stone CP. Long walk in due to low cloud. Route turned out too complicated to mention. But bagged Millfore -> Lamachan ->Larg Hill -> Curlywee. Should have taken a MTB - doh. 10 hours.Jhimmy29/08/2021
From Glenhead. Up Shiel then east to Mulldonach, to follow ridge. Clag.Iloveducks27/08/2021

I met up with my mate Gavin for our annual walk in the area whilst he is down for his holidays and we drove round to The Cauldens car park which we left at 5.30pm heading along the southern path of Loch Trool. Like other we bushwhacked straight uphill when we felt the time was correct and it was brutal in the extreme, especially on such a warm night. After what seemed an age we finally arrived at the summit cairn. We took a few photographs then started uphill again to the summit of Lamachan Hill before finding a tortuous tussocky route back down to Glen Trool and eventually the car which was reached in darkness at 11pm.3 kinnears02/07/2021

From Bruce's Stone car park, up Southern Upland Way to around NX436790 then up east side of Shiel Burn. Hard going rough terrain, not helped by new grass growth masking the tussocks. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2021/06/millfore-and-lamachan.htmlGayle11/06/2021

Parked at Bruce's stone car park near Loch Trool, and gained the high ground by way of the waterfall being fed by the Sheil burn. First popping up Mulldonoch before contouring round Lamachan to the col with Larg hill, visiting the summit of Larg hill and then following the wall and a grassy track to Craignaw. Once I retraced my steps back to the col I continued up to Lamachan hill and then over the Scars of Milldown to reach Curleywee. Returning back to the car by descending White hill which was rough going to reach the Southern upland way. Just over Fourteen mile in Seven hours.WAYNE ROWLETT11/10/2020
