With Sybil, her very first TuMP. Parked in Tuthill Court. Short walk round the corner to HP on NW corner of waterworks. Then on to NE corner to trig, but inaccesible as in corner within waterworks. Got very close though, but fp on other side. | mntainman | 31/08/2023 |
Parked opposite Fox & Duck. Took path through someone's garden to the Water Tower. Bashed through sodden wet bushes to circumnavigate the fenced off area. Trig point looks very sorry for itself. | ChinnockC | 05/08/2023 |
Bank near mast seems to be highest point. Got let in to trig by water company worker. | sclater | 25/01/2023 |
Didn't seem to have any height at all until drive home. | Mark Sims | 24/06/2022 |
Walked around the summit on the footpath but unable to access peak. Nice area, not so nice top | phil70 | 29/07/2021 |
Royston to Baldock via Herts Way. Revisit. | Smudge | 30/04/2021 |
Uninspiring summit, but lovely views on drive to and from. | maclrc | 14/06/2020 |
On Hertfordshire Way. Also visited other suggested points. | PGCE | 08/05/2020 |
Walk from Sandon village | jedthehumanoid | 22/02/2020 |
3rd Tump of 4 today after Southend Hill and Burnham Green. 3.9km exploration, parking up on Peddars exploring the Motte & Bailey earthworks en-route to the SE side of the Water tower compound, recording 169m @ TL 33232 37224 then using fp to visit the 168m spot just to the West then the highest land, recording 173m on the banking overlooking the scrapyard then across bare ground via 168m spot to the unfinished concrete compound. Natural ground from bank to compound seems higher than around the compound; explored around fence and up the lane before taking fp NE onto green with bumps, recording 167m @ TL 33428 37507, then up onto drive with obviously higher ground further East. Took route through school grounds then up along fenceline to highest point next to fence and field stubble (burial ground on Os map) recording 169m @TL 33650 37435 (same height as at SE corner of compound)169m also recorded at Jct of paths at TL33960 37493. Returned via Icknield Way. | Dazingdale | 12/01/2020 |
Stopped briefly here on the way home from a pleasant walk on Therfield Heath - just a few miles to the north. | CXB | 25/10/2019 |

Long trail run from Therfield Common. | dc96 | 02/09/2018 |

Parked by large metal gates, then f/p to water tower compound. Thought high point 15m SE from front gate, banking on opposite side of track. Then made a visit to the trig - when way in was eventually found. | Aye Jimmy | 29/04/2018 |
Parked at entrance to compound which doesn't allow trespassers. Walked in and it seems marginally higher than elsewhere although covered in a layer of thick concrete. Also did fp. Not very satisfactory. | Campbell Singer | 22/11/2017 |
As for nordicstar. | arranc | 14/10/2017 |
Good circular walk from car park near roundabout. | Fred Windsor | 02/09/2017 |
Parked in village and walked around network of paths. | rhalstead | 23/04/2017 |
I did a circuit of the compound then popped in to see the trig and water tower. | Dugswell2 | 06/03/2017 |
From East on FP from village. Trig hidden away in corner of compound. Gap in fence is very small. HP could also be on SE corner just outside fence. | PeterD | 16/11/2016 |
By mountain bike cross country from Ashwell & Morden Station. Difficult crossing dual carriageway and had a run in with tubby local resident who claimed a RoW was not one. Even so an enjoyable bike ride. Trig looks sad inside compound. | trimarc2 | 08/10/2016 |
On PROW from village | Swindon Bagger | 29/08/2016 |
Trig pillar trapped inside the mast compound cowering in the back corner of its cage like an exhibit in a zoo. A jumble of long distance paths converge here: Hertfordshire Way, Chain Link, and The 110 mile Icknield Way which links the Ridgeway to The Peddars Way. I combined my visit with a walk 200m west to slope of open field which is the OS Landranger highpoint of sheet 153 (This is right on the map edge which falls short by 200 horizontal metres of reaching the summit of Therfield Hill) | Chris Pearson | 01/06/2016 |
HP in water tower compound, few metres S of gates. Small gap in fencing on SE side allowed access to investigate HP, and to bag the trig pillar and benchmark. | jonglew | 13/01/2016 |
Ashwell & Morden to Royston. Several potential HPs visited although manufactured bank of scrapyard overtops any 'natural' ground. | Smudge | 01/01/2016 |
One evening after school from Saffron Walden to my home in Hertfordshire. Parked in road to North, walked down Hertfordshire way to 125m contour - best part of walk! Then back up to see trig no access. Walked round to alternative high point and scrambled up a bank with vegetation - seemed like highest point. Bank near trig compound similar in height. Really horrible summit! Drive back though village nice | pdantic | 10/06/2015 |
Parked on lane by locked gates to yard. Dirt track to junction of tower/fence. No access now without climbing but can touch trig through fence if nimble enough w trees. | nordicstar | 24/03/2015 |
walked clockwise down lane and round tower compound. Broken West fence provides easy access to compound and likely mound near the tower. | GordonAdshead | 11/02/2015 |
Parked by compound and walked a few yards to the highest accessible point. | Herbert Anchovy | 27/01/2015 |
Parked easily off road to north. Alternative summit currently pasture. | destaylor | 13/02/2014 |
One of my very few local P30s. Got Mum to drive me to the summit after a day out on Therfield Heath! | Mark Jackson | 15/02/2007 |
