| With Gina. First hill since rupturing achilles 7½ weeks ago on Strathfinella Hill. Parked in parking area with lots of signs about controlled parking only for church visitors, so I guess we qualify. Wandered around back of church to find highest point near knarled tree and grave of George Prusseel, only to find triangle on HB located at front of church near churchyard entrance. | With Sarah and Kieron. From church car park through gate and right to second tree (summit as favoured by some), then through churchyard (passing other options) and southwards for view. | Morning walk before work. Not excuse for not logging this one before as its less than a kilometer from my work. Lovely sunny morning, good views to the south. Church yard is open all the time so easy acess. Parking area outside the church. | A tranquil beautiful churchyard of the Grade 1 listed St John The Baptist whose spire can be seen for miles around .During the Napoleonic wars from 1780 to 1815, large numbers of troops were stationed in Danbury as protection from possible invasion. | Walked up from 55m contour line in Danbury Common. Arrived to find a school party sitting on summit being given a RS lesson. After having lunch on bench in churchyard at back, the school party had been taken into the church. I stood on summit as mentioned by a previous log, but on searching around concluded summit to be a bump by a grave round the back or possibly the path near the mast. | According to an old timer walking his dog (he was born and bred in the village), the highest point lies against the wall on the right as you enter the churchyard. Baggers should walk through the churchyard and go for about 100m along the right of way where the vista opens up to give a great view over most of Essex. | moorsman | 06/07/2015 |
