From lay-by (NS8874-0673) Track to Dalveen farm passing to the west to pick up track above Bught Haas | Andrew Simmons | 13/02/2023 |
Parking in layby at NS912083. Hurdle at wall corner of woods gives access to a brutal ascent of Laght Hill, big dip then relentless uphill along SUW to Comb Head, then easier on to Cold Moss and Lowther Hill, out and back to East Mount Lowther, on to Wether Hill and finally, up the steepest grass I have ever encountered, to Steygail, descended via Westside Height to Dalveen and back up the A72 race track. | Isbjorn | 08/05/2022 |
Full anti-clockwise circuit of Laght Hill, Cold Moss and Steygail. Good parking a few hundred metres W burial ground. From Cold Moss, along SUW down to col, up to about 600m contour, then round west and south to Wether Hill. Steeply down to col, then extremely steeply up NW face to NW ridge of Steyail. Down NW, then W ridge, to burn confluence. Followed burn to above Dalveen Farm, then up around field wall and then ATV track to A702 just above impressive gorge. | Minto | 27/02/2022 |
Route over Lowther Hills from E, parking just N of Overfingland. Took Southern Upland Way to Laight Hill, over Comb Head and Cold Moss. Continued to Lowther Hill, walking around the compound fence, then over to East Mount Lowther. Returned almost to access road then contoured S and via Wether Hill to narrow beallach and steep climb to Staygail. Descended via Westside Height to Carron Water and return mainly following fence line on hillside above road and then joining line of Roman road to Overfingland. Misty and drizzly for some time but start and end of route were brighter | RobertP | 04/09/2021 |
Used angled path from Upper Dalveen to make the ascent a little less brutal | alda | 12/04/2021 |
From layby (NS 8874 0673), took track to Dalveen Farm circumnavigating it to the W to pick up track above Bught Haas. | jonglew | 17/03/2021 |
Lockdown revisit, P layby S of Potrenick Brig & came up via Langcleugh Rig, Lowthers & Windy Hill. Steep grassy slope. Lunch above Blue Scar, then back up to SUW | agentmancuso | 05/03/2021 |
A round of Laght Hill, Cold Moss and Steygail from layby near the burial ground. Interesting steep sided hills. Impressive sub-Marilyn. Found a useful old track leading back up from Upper Dalveen that saved any road walking. With R and B. | jenx | 03/09/2020 |
From the Toll cottage. | richtea5040 | 21/07/2020 |
2nd ascent; first solo | ajwxyzt | 21/07/2020 |
Climbed from bottom of Dalveen pass, up past Upper Dalveen and then a good path up the hillside. Then made a day of it going over Wether Hill, Lowther Hill, Cold Moss and finally Laught Hill. | 3 kinnears | 31/05/2020 |
Parked in gerrybowes layby and went up the road to Dalveen, past the house and up almost to the highpoint of the track. Followed ATV tracks up and around to the summit. (Never seen so many vole holes on a hill, & saw 4 voles) Descended in a SW direction and followed the ridge to meet the track at a bridge at NS87881 07788 (picnic table there too!).Returned by the track past Dalveen. Pleasant walk with good views. | LizH | 16/03/2020 |
Up and down by track and excellent ATV track from roadside near Dalveen. Perfect gradient for a speedy ascent. | SS | 06/04/2019 |
Parked in small layby 500m S. of Dalveen entrance at NS 88428 06022 - Up farm track which passes on left side of buildings & up to high point - From high point, well-used ATV track to unmarked summit. Friendly young farmer out on hill doing the rounds. (S) | gerrybowes | 13/12/2018 |
From East Mount Lowther. Returned to the bealach. Then took faint path down the Enterkin Burn glen, fording it lower down to climb east on sheep-paths to the bealach between Steygail and Cold Moss. Then very steep ascent up north flank to summit. To descend, contoured round to NE ridge, picking up ATV track down to Upper Dalveen. To avoid farm, worked my way with difficulty on very steep slopes to descend east flank, and up to A 702. Should just have continued to Upper Dalveen! Then took A 702 NW back to car near Overfingland. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 17/07/2018 |
Cycled through Dalveen farm then legged it over Dalveen Rig following argo track to Steygail summit. | Eddie | 26/09/2017 |

From Dalveen, up Dalveen Rig, down the west ridge to the Enterkin Pass. All easy going. | borderterrier | 05/07/2014 |
Track through Dalveen farm and up Dalveen Rig. With Tom E | chrisbien | 20/03/2010 |
Steep but straightforward ascent from bridge over Lavern burn. | agentmancuso | 05/05/2008 |
In the lead on OMM 2007 with Darren on Day 2 Medium Score. We were set off first of the day and went steeply straight up above the whole stiill waking OMM campsite to the summit which we skirted by a few metres to save a few precious seconds as not exactly on our route - so summit not ticked! | Chris Pearson | 28/10/2007 |
