Should be named ‘Bramble Hill’. We reached the old gate at the top of the Access Land but summit area beyond was a mass of 2m tall intertwined thick bramble. 25m in best waterproofs didn't appeal - will need to return suitably armed. | RichardM | 22/07/2023 |
Summit not attained. Winter ascent required! Reached the gate but 2 m high brambles meant we remained c 25 m from the summit, albeit quite level . Raining and wearing goretex waterproofs which were more valuable than getting a tick. Should have realised that bramble fest really does mean bramble fest here!! | Denise | 22/07/2023 |
Came up from the south up the edge of a maize field then up the grassy slopes. The summit, though shown on maps as in open field has clearly been in a mature dense tree cover for quite a long time, so I got to western side which seems pretty well level with thicket to the east, so head over summit rules applies. | vegibagger | 28/07/2021 |
Parked near Fenny Castle for a circuit of Hembury Hill, Ben Knowle Hill and Hay Hill (found old gate on N side of summit field, then low brambles to summit clearing). | PGCE | 26/05/2021 |
From NE, parked by Lower Burcott Farm, followed FP through paddocks to stile to the west of top. Steeply up pasture to gate, then around another pasture until came to another gate leading into the brambles. Fought way through brambles to a clearing with HP. | PeterD | 07/05/2021 |
from road to east, up horse paddock, through pedestrian gate then steep muddy woodland to a bramble fest at the top. | cjo | 22/12/2019 |
Croscombe to Wells. Up & down from road to E with half an hour pruning brambles near summit. | Smudge | 20/10/2019 |
Walked over from Ben Knowle hill. HP seems to be in a big mass of brambles. | fosal29 | 07/10/2019 |
Parked in wide part of lane to the east and through the gates that led steeply up through the woods into pasture. Then another gate into the brambles. Fairly flat so I didn't bother to go far beyond the gate. | Herbert Anchovy | 30/01/2019 |
Parked to the SW then used RoW to gain field below wood. Up steeply through wood then over BWF into summit field with Iain Brown. Then continued onto Hay Hill via field edges of maize fields to the prickly summit. | Dugswell2 | 10/09/2018 |
From e as others, gated path up thru wood, W along access land then gate S into summit area, hp seems to be in grass rather than brambles but rather level | RHW | 04/02/2017 |
Good parking on wide section of Burcott Lane. Through horse paddock to same gate Chris Peat found. From there bit of a nightmare and top even worse with head-high brambles. Beat a path to summit as best as could be guessed, but very unpleasant. Searched for the OS Block 70m SE in thorn, but no luck there. | jonglew | 02/12/2015 |
From Coxley, round then up to top, back by Keward Brook/River Sheppey, sunny & dry, cool breeze.cows & brambles a problem near top. | apricorum | 18/04/2015 |
Parked in Burcott Lane - went through a gate at ST529446 and followed hedgeline up to a gate into the wood - continued up through this to emerge in a pasture - a little further on a gate on the left gave access to the summit area. The summit is located in a large bramble patch.....not pleasant. | Chris Peart | 02/02/2015 |
