From the beach CP to the cannons defending the row of garden visitors lining the viewing area. Odd experience, reminded me of a similar experience on Germany's highpoint, Zugspitze. | Martin R | 04/09/2023 |
Part of a visit to the lovely Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens (free for Historic Houses members). A fine viewpoint to take in the length of Chesil Beach. | milimana | 24/05/2023 |
Visit to abbotsbury sub tropical gardens with a friend. High point appears to be right next to the wall of the viewing area. Didn't fancy trying to hop over barbed wire strand the other side of the wall and considered myself close enough to bag. Not sure the land the other side of the wall is public access and don't like to trespass or encourage it in others..... | stagger onward | 03/07/2022 |
Free on-street parking in Abbotsbury. Circuit of Stavordale Hill (ROW until E of hill, then up field. Easy hop over wall to highpoint - early Sunday morning so nobody about), Chapel Hill and Linton Hill. | PGCE | 17/10/2021 |
Superb coastal VP by old gun emplacement outside the boundary of Abbotsbury sub tropical gardens. From St Catherine's Chapel. | Denise | 20/09/2020 |
A direct line up the grass from the path junction to the E. Strangely we find ourselves on the outside of the viewing area reached, I assume, via Abbotsbury Gardens. We are watched by folk from the safety of their wall and strand of barbed wire as though we are animals in the wild. Again great views. We thought the natural high point just outside the viewing area. | RichardM | 20/09/2020 |
Free parking at the Swannery car park. Then a 3.5 mile walk taking in Linton Hill, Chapel Hill & Stavordale Hill. | fosal29 | 24/11/2019 |
Parked at the Swannery car park and used the delightful Coastal Path to visit Chapel Hill, Stavordale Hill then back the other direction to Linton Hill. Good views of the lagoon where Barnes Wallis practiced for the Dam Busters raid. | clivevilla | 26/03/2019 |
Bagged as part of visit to Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens. On Gardens map it is marked as 'Jurassic Coast Viewpoint'. A fine viewpoint indeed. | KeithByTheC | 14/09/2018 |
Part of a visit to the Sub-tropical Gardens which are beautiful. | Swindon Bagger | 14/07/2018 |
Pleasant view of some mist! | stripybadger | 30/05/2018 |
From Swannery car park (no fee) this is shown as a public car park on OS maps. Including second visit to Chapel Hill. | David Gradwell | 17/05/2018 |
Didn't expect cannons on summit.
Nice but hot circuit of 3 Abbotsbury tumps from Chesil Beach car park. | Mark Sims | 06/07/2017 |
With L From SE after Church Hill. Our presence was well hidden by a thick sea fret that shrouded everything in blowing cold wetness. Ironic there being Sub Tropical gardens down below ? Arctic Tundra more believable today. | Chris Pearson | 03/04/2017 |
Parked by the church in Abbotsbury. Bagged its cut mark before heading up Chapel Hill then over to Stavordale Hill. The Swannery was next before heading up Linton Hill then back to Abbotsbury. | Dugswell2 | 31/10/2016 |
From Beach car park, but cafe closed for the evening.
Cannons near the top an interesting feature. HP appeared to be just over the wall. | PeterD | 30/06/2016 |
From Abbotsbury Beach car park (cafe open but didn't hassle me for cash), direct route to top. HP is extension of Abbotsbury Gardens, semi-circular walled area with bench seats and 5 cannon arranged in semi-circle facing seawards. Nice views along Chesil Bank. | jonglew | 09/12/2015 |
From SW using £4 beach car park! Back via Chapel Hill | RHW | 28/03/2015 |
