Drove right past it. Could not go up.ekm04/07/2021

Waden Hill and Silbury Hill from layby opposite the Avebury car park. Along the muddy path towards West Kennett Long Barrow then off left up Waden Hill, across to Silbury Hill then back to the car.clivevilla17/11/2020
OK I did not reach the top. Can't argue with the no access I'm afraid. Also it had a moat all round which would have made access impossible even if I were so minded. I could make the top if dry so am claiming it.Sixtyplus08/12/2019
Sunday evening, all quiet for quick ascent up N side of hill on well used track. Highest in long grass and undergrowth just N of central depression on top.Aye Jimmy14/07/2019
3rd and final top of the day on a 15 mile circular from Berwick Bassett with Lesley, climbing Windmill Hill and then after a brief exploration of Avebury, Waden Hill, descending to path. Lesley waited while i took the path to rhe South; two pptential summits amidst nettles. Iconic hill and beautiful even in the rain. We carried on to explore West Kennet Barrow and do the 1st stage of the Ridgeway veering off for Winterbourne Bassett.Dazingdale22/09/2018
A short climb up from the West Kennet Barrow lay by, the rain didn't hold off so we retreated to the Wagon & Horses pub.DanMaisieBex02/09/2016
Popped up on the way back to the car from Waden Hill. There are no no entry signs when you approach from that side so I could ascend in ignorance of any access restrictions. Started to hack it down as I reached the top. Returned to the car parked at WK Long Barrow.Herbert Anchovy17/11/2015
10 mile run with L & dogs from Winterbourne Bassett via Avebury. We dutifully obeyed all of the 'do not climb signs' and stopped at the viewing point. It is the tallest prehistoric human-made mound in Europe at 30m (tump height) (would once have been white) Actual purpose unknown and despite two tunnels from the sides nothing found inside. Youtube : Silbury Hill: The hill with a hole, includes Professor Atkinson in 1960s from Cardiff Uni digging a tunnel to find just a turf core and nothing buried inside. In 2000 a 40 foot hole appeared on the top, possibly an old shaft from 18th C which was fenced off for safety then filled with expanding polystyrene!!Chris Pearson17/02/2015
Definitely no signs denying entry until the way down! Too late by then!moorsman12/08/2008
Approximate date. Would have been before the access restrictions whilst visiting Avebury.Jugganaut01/01/1991
Hmm. Might be a bit of an artificial summit... Climbed a few times as a kid; not sure if you're allowed up it any more. Very impressive ancient monument, well worth a look from the roadside even if you're not allowed up now.wheresthepath01/01/1990
Estimated date. On a collage tripRichard Lawrenc10/10/1989
Date estimated. Climbed to top of Silbury when passing one day when eldest son in a pushchair (didn't take him up). Driving from Weston-s-Mare to London on A4 to make a change from M4; suddenly came upon Silbury and had to stop to climb it. No restrictions in those days. ***Re-visited 19 Oct 2014. Been meaning for a while to walk up this mound again. Decided today was the day as parked in the car park for benchmarking. Approached from the N, surprising how steep it is and wet grass v. slippery today. Large flatish top, with lots of nettles.jonglew19/09/1984
Came across by chance with Cathy and it just asked to be climbed. Fine views from the top.RichardM15/01/1984
Before access restrictions.PeterD12/03/1979
Date unknown, holiday with parents I think.RHW01/01/1975
Date unknown visited with my parents on a holiday in 1973 when you were allowed onto the hill, this is no longer allowed for conservation reasons. I am lucky enough to have been inside the tunnel into the hill during the archaeological recording before it was backfilled so I have stood inside the centre of the hill, something no one will ever do again.Swindon Bagger08/08/1973
Date uncertain - I grew up in Devizes and we used to visit the summit to watch the sunrise.Chris Peart21/06/1968

Definitely been up it, but not sure when. Don't want to add to the erosion by doing it again.PGCEblank
