The Blackhope Round on a day of brilliant blue skies and frost: a superb and memorable day. CW from Blackhope Cottage: Nether Coomb Craig, Swatte Fell (with its reticent summit cairn immediately west of the ruined wall), Falcon Craig, Hart Fell, Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke. | Nick Down1 | 02/01/2019 |
The Hart Fell heart-shaped horseshoe to White Coomb. Started at Blackhope, up to Swatte Fell then Hart Fell, Under Saddle Yoke & White Coomb then back to the start. Included the Donald tops en route during the long, tough and often pathless hike but it was still a grand day out with good views. | Chris Mac | 22/09/2018 |
Solo, From Blackshope. Saddle Yoke, Under Saddle Yoke, Hartfell Rigg, Hart Fell, Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell, Nether Coomb Craig | Mountain Goat | 08/07/2018 |
The last of 6 D/DTs on a clockwise circuit around the Black Hope valley. From Under Saddle Yoke, a short steep descent to col & then quickly up to the small summit cairn which is almost buried under grass & moss. Descended S. ridge & then a short walk down vehicle track to car which was parked at 147098. (S) | gerrybowes | 08/05/2018 |
From the A706 by Blackshope (at the end of the Blackhope valley (an anticlockwise circuit) via Hang Gill- Nether Coomb Craig - Upper Coomb Craig - Falcon Craig - hartfell Craig - Hart Fell (808) - Saddle Craigs - across Whirly Gill - Redgill Craig - Under Saddle Yoke - Saddle Yoke - Blackhope valley to the A706. Sunny and Blue to start cloud later but warm throughout. | briandavies | 05/05/2018 |

The twelve members of KHWC went from Blackhope Cottage direct up S shoulder to SY on the way to Under Saddle Yoke. Second visit for me: first was on 29/09/2015. At USY, party split with six continuing around Blackhope and six re-tracing uphill route over SY (third visit for me) to descend to BC. | jacobus | 08/04/2017 |

Saddle Yoke, Under Saddle Yoke, Cape Law, Din Law from S, camping near summit of Cape Law. | RobertP | 22/10/2016 |
Via track from Blackshope to south. There is a good path all the way up to the summit. Leave track by large boulder (NT147102) to stile over fence at NT148102. Once over lower grassy slopes in a NNE direction, path develops to second stile at NT147113. Good path up ridge. Good walking on buggy trods on fence lines all way to Garelet Dodd to north, picking up Under Saddle Yoke, Cape Law, Din Law. Return in reverse - (looked an impossible descent from Carrifran Gans to road at Carrifran, to pick up tops on easterly ridge) | carole engel | 12/08/2016 |
Solo; P at Blackhope Cottage, A708; walked through gateway and up steep shoulder onto undulating ridge leading to summit of SY; N top appears higher than that with pile of stones. Dropped sharply N to col with Under Saddle Yoke and climbed to its summit; continued around Blackhope Valley to Carrifran Gans. Splendid sunny morning with a light wind. | seumas | 29/09/2015 |
Epic 9 mountain walk, parked nearby Capelgill walked along the not very busy main road to Carrifran farm, bagged Carrifran Gans, White Coomb, Firthhope Rig, through the boggy Rotten Bottom, up to Under Saddle Yoke, and the lower Saddle Yoke, forded the burn up onto Hart Fell, Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell and Nether Coomb Craig picking a steep route back down to Capelgill, fantastic walk in fantastic weather. | DanTrig | 12/06/2015 |
Parked in lay-by on A708 at NT 15175 10285. Scaled tricky barbed wire fence (there is a gate to the SW) and then steeply up over Pt.494m and up along ridge to unmarked summit. Walk continued to Under Saddle Yoke. | marktrengove | 09/04/2015 |

With DW & SL. Walk 2 of the day as day trip from home. From Capplegill as circuit over Hart Fell & Saddle Yoke, via all summits en route. Cloudy, with some fleeting views. Best of the Moffat area Corbetts? | AGWilliamson | 11/12/2011 |
The killer link of our 20 top 30km+ bagging run followed with a a plummeting straight down descent losing 500 metres to Blckhope Burn and then steeply straight up the other side for 500metres to flat ground once again on Nether Coomb Craig. Great stuff! | Chris Pearson | 03/08/2011 |
Parked at Blackshope, took track through gate and climbed up to shoulder and on to Saddle Yolk. | derekblackburn | 29/04/2011 |
Started from Capple gill. No path and very steep. | biggaz777 | 22/04/2011 |
Parking at the entrance into the Valley appears to be tolerated, just keep clear of the garage. Between Saddle Yoke and Under Saddle Yoke is a ridge walk, with 450 metre drops on both side. A test for some but worth the effort. | Moore100 | 05/03/2011 |
Day 2 of a solo stay in Moffat. Parked just to W of bridge at 159115 & then walked along the road a short distance past Carrifran to the gate. The track was a bit overgrown & a way had to be forced over to the wall running steeply straight up Carrifran Gans. A fairly brutal ascent (which was descended 3 years later after Martin66's last Donald - worse), but once you're up the going is easy. Then on to White Coomb & round over Firthope Rig following the boundary, before veering S to take in the fine pair of Saddle Yoke & Under Saddle Yoke. Then bck to the main circuit for an out & back to Cape Law & Din Law, then back to the boundary over Hartfell Rig & on to Hart Fell. Headed S along the cliff edges over Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell & Nether Coomb Craig. Finished at Capplegill farm & then a 2km walk back along the road. Warm & sunny round & a good way to do these hills. | NotReallyABagger | 01/09/2010 |

Climbed on a clockwise circuit of Blackhope Burn. Constructed small cairn on summit. The quoted GR for this top is nowhere near the summit. It's actually on the 700m contour ring, down a steep slope on the other side of the fence. | David Gradwell | 13/09/2009 |
Parked bedside Blackhope Cottage. On track to circular sheepfold, through heather on faint paths. Stile over electric fence and rapid climb to top. 10.50. to Undersaddle | arranc | 13/09/2009 |
