Hart Fell ridges horseshoe, near Moffat. Walkhighlands routehummusg03/03/2023
Parked at Blackhope on the A708, headed up the braken covered slope on the right hand side of the Hang Gill. Seen a goat on his own that let me get within 20m. By the time I reached the top of Nether Coomb Craig, the mist had started to clear, leaving blue skies behind. Finding the summit of Swatte Fell, involved a walk west along the stone dyke. Falcon Craig has a wee cairn west of the fence line. Hart Fell (a repeat hill for me) has a classic trig pillar. The walked around to the yokes, involved a drop into the boggy valley south of Cape Law, above Whirly Gill, but there is a clear path through it, that keeps you relatively high. Once on Under Saddle Yoke, the views into Carrifan showed the rewilding project is really taking hold. Short ascent to Saddle Yoke, then the descent back to Blackhope, during which I seen a flock of 8 goats. Dry all day, 06:10hrs all in.chillyman810/09/2022
From Fruid Reservoir out to Din Law then Cape Law and on to Saddle Yoke and its arete. Returned by Hartfell Rig to Hart Fell then followed fence and wall back to Fruid and back to reservoir car park.SS01/09/2022

Private No Parking signs at Blackshope, so parked in layby 200m NE. From Capplegill a good ATV track sidles SW up the hillside at an amenable angle, then NNE almost to the top of Nether Coomb Craig. ATV continues on over Swatte Fell, Falcon Craig and Hart Fell before descending to col at NT133142. From col a path sidles slightly upwards along the W flank of Raven Craig for Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke. The descent SSE from Saddle Yoke is steep slippery grassIsbjorn13/10/2021

Good parking NT 1543 1050. Field gate and steeply up over rough sheep pasture via 494m spot height. On to Under Saddle Yoke -> Cape Law -> Hart Fell -> Falcon Craig -> Swatte Fell -> Nether Coomb Craig, dropping down to Capplegill and along road to car for an 11 mile round. All Dumfries-shire hills on HB now ticked off.jonglew29/05/2021
Steeply up via Peat Hill from roadside parking on A708. First time up high in Scotland for over a year. Deep glens below and interlocking grass and heather ridges all aroundDenise 01/05/2021
From Capple Gill with Ewan& Stevie: Under Saddle Yoke and round to Hart Fell. Lots of snow. Aborted at Hart Fell to descend to Blackhope.jigglybones28/12/2020
Parked by Blackshope cottage, W a short way along road, then through pasture and up hill E side of Hang Burn to Nether Coomb Craig, continuing along ridges to Swatte Fell, Falcon Craig, Hart Fell, E over Hartfell Rig up to near 709m spot, out and back to Cape Law, then S via Redgill Craig to Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke, descending down to Blackshope.kdbennett27/09/2020
Escaped from the crazy weather that was forecast for the Northern half of Scotland, with John and Harrison, to hit up the Hart Fell horseshoe with Under Saddle Yoke and Swatte Fell (including tops Saddle Yoke, Falcon Craig and Nether Coombe Craig) - good visibility and conditions, if a little windy on the tops - 4hrs 1min in total.mproudfoot12/09/2020

The Blackhope Round on a day of brilliant blue skies and frost: a superb and memorable day. CW from Blackhope Cottage: Nether Coomb Craig, Swatte Fell (with its reticent summit cairn immediately west of the ruined wall), Falcon Craig, Hart Fell, Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke.Nick Down102/01/2019
The Hart Fell heart-shaped horseshoe to White Coomb. Started at Blackhope, up to Swatte Fell then Hart Fell, Under Saddle Yoke & White Coomb then back to the start. Included the Donald tops en route during the long, tough and often pathless hike but it was still a grand day out with good views.Chris Mac22/09/2018

The last of 6 D/DTs on a clockwise circuit around the Black Hope valley. From Under Saddle Yoke, a short steep descent to col & then quickly up to the small summit cairn which is almost buried under grass & moss. Descended S. ridge & then a short walk down vehicle track to car which was parked at 147098. (S)gerrybowes08/05/2018

Saddle Yoke, Under Saddle Yoke, Cape Law, Din Law from S, camping near summit of Cape Law.RobertP22/10/2016
Via track from Blackshope to south. There is a good path all the way up to the summit. Leave track by large boulder (NT147102) to stile over fence at NT148102. Once over lower grassy slopes in a NNE direction, path develops to second stile at NT147113. Good path up ridge. Good walking on buggy trods on fence lines all way to Garelet Dodd to north, picking up Under Saddle Yoke, Cape Law, Din Law. Return in reverse - (looked an impossible descent from Carrifran Gans to road at Carrifran, to pick up tops on easterly ridge)carole engel12/08/2016
Solo; P at Blackhope Cottage, A708; walked through gateway and up steep shoulder onto undulating ridge leading to summit of SY; N top appears higher than that with pile of stones. Dropped sharply N to col with Under Saddle Yoke and climbed to its summit; continued around Blackhope Valley to Carrifran Gans. Splendid sunny morning with a light wind.seumas29/09/2015
Epic 9 mountain walk, parked nearby Capelgill walked along the not very busy main road to Carrifran farm, bagged Carrifran Gans, White Coomb, Firthhope Rig, through the boggy Rotten Bottom, up to Under Saddle Yoke, and the lower Saddle Yoke, forded the burn up onto Hart Fell, Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell and Nether Coomb Craig picking a steep route back down to Capelgill, fantastic walk in fantastic weather.DanTrig12/06/2015
Parked in lay-by on A708 at NT 15175 10285. Scaled tricky barbed wire fence (there is a gate to the SW) and then steeply up over Pt.494m and up along ridge to unmarked summit. Walk continued to Under Saddle Yoke.Man of Kernow109/04/2015

With DW & SL. Walk 2 of the day as day trip from home. From Capplegill as circuit over Hart Fell & Saddle Yoke, via all summits en route. Cloudy, with some fleeting views. Best of the Moffat area Corbetts?AGWilliamson11/12/2011
The killer link of our 20 top 30km+ bagging run followed with a a plummeting straight down descent losing 500 metres to Blckhope Burn and then steeply straight up the other side for 500metres to flat ground once again on Nether Coomb Craig. Great stuff!Chris Pearson03/08/2011
Parked at Blackshope, took track through gate and climbed up to shoulder and on to Saddle Yolk.derekblackburn29/04/2011
Started from Capple gill. No path and very steep.biggaz77722/04/2011
Parking at the entrance into the Valley appears to be tolerated, just keep clear of the garage. Between Saddle Yoke and Under Saddle Yoke is a ridge walk, with 450 metre drops on both side. A test for some but worth the effort.Moore10005/03/2011
Day 2 of a solo stay in Moffat. Parked just to W of bridge at 159115 & then walked along the road a short distance past Carrifran to the gate. The track was a bit overgrown & a way had to be forced over to the wall running steeply straight up Carrifran Gans. A fairly brutal ascent (which was descended 3 years later after Martin66's last Donald - worse), but once you're up the going is easy. Then on to White Coomb & round over Firthope Rig following the boundary, before veering S to take in the fine pair of Saddle Yoke & Under Saddle Yoke. Then bck to the main circuit for an out & back to Cape Law & Din Law, then back to the boundary over Hartfell Rig & on to Hart Fell. Headed S along the cliff edges over Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell & Nether Coomb Craig. Finished at Capplegill farm & then a 2km walk back along the road. Warm & sunny round & a good way to do these hills.NotReallyABagger01/09/2010
